Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon will not be forced to pay a $25,000 fine from the National Football League for his criticism of officials following the team's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round playoff game. Mixon appealed the fine in late January and was informed of the league's decision to rescind it on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Link to storyHouston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) is expected to make a full recovery from his injured knee and should have the opportunity to resume his career at some point, according to multiple sources. He has already undergone one surgical procedure to repair his lateral collateral and medial collateral ligaments and is slated to undergo another procedure to reconstruct his torn anterior cruciate ligament soon. He also dislocated his entire knee but no longer requires the use of crutches.

Houston Texans impending free-agent WR Stefon Diggs is a player that QB C.J. Stroud hopes to return next season because they were building chemistry before Diggs suffered his injury.
Footballguys view: Diggs tore his ACL in a late October win over the Colts. Before the injury, he caught 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a 6-yard score. In the regular season, the Texans were 6-2 with Diggs in the lineup and 4-5 without him. He's a free agent this offseason. Diggs' market, which could include the Texans (Tank Dell could miss the entire season as he recovers from a knee injury of his own), will likely become clearer as we get a better feel for the former Bills' recovery timeline. |

Free-agent DE Kingsley Jonathan signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Houston Texans Friday, Feb. 7. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams senior offensive assistant Jerry Schuplinski is expected to be named as the new quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Link to storyHouston Texans assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich was promoted to offensive line coach Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Link to storyThe Texans are hiring Rams TEs coach and pass game coordinator Nick Caley as their new OC, as C.J. Stroud and the Houston offense get a new play-caller, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: Caley drew interest from multiple teams over the last month (including the Patriots and Jets), and he becomes the latest offensive assistant to Sean McVay to move up the coaching ladder. Caley was the tight ends coach and pass game coordinator for the Rams, and he spent seven years on Bill Belichick's staff before moving to Los Angeles in 2023. His innovative coaching style and impressive track record with the Rams made him a highly coveted candidate. |
Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud was hurried a league-high 66 times during the 2024 season, according to Pro Football Reference.
Footballguys view: The Texans fired their offensive line coach and offensive coordinator after the season, in part as a reaction to this development. Houston has interviewed seven candidates for the job, not including Green Bay offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich. The Packers could block the interview, but allowed Stenavich to talk to Seattle about their opening earlier in the hiring cycle before the Seahawks hired Klint Kubiak. Stenavich would get to be a playcaller in Houston, which is not a possibility in Green Bay. Luke Getsy was recently given the title "senior offensive assistant" by the Packers after rejoining their staff last year. He could become the Green Bay offensive coordinator if Stenavich takes this job. |

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans S Jalen Pitre (chest) remains on track to participate in offseason activities. He has been strengthening his chest following surgery to repair a torn pectoral and is regaining his flexibility and range of motion in order to prevent future injuries. Pitre also said he would like to remain with the organization on a long-term contract extension.

Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich is expected to interview with the Houston Texans regarding their offensive coordinator vacancy, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Stenavich doesn't call plays with the Packers, but he's a hot name in coaching circles. The Packers cannot block the Texans here because getting play calling responsibilities would not be a lateral move compared to what he does on Matt LaFleur's staff. |
Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach/passing game coordinator Nick Caley will interview for the Houston Texans' offensive coordinator vacancy Thursday, Jan. 30.
Footballguys view: Caley has interest from the Buccaneers as well. A Sean McVay disciple, Caley would run the Shanahan system if/when hired to be a coordinator. It's interesting to note after the Texans fired OC Bobby Slowik - himself a student of the Shanahan system. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Thaddeus Lewis interviewed with the Houston Texans for their offensive coordinator vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud was pressured 174 times during the 2024 regular season, which led the NFL in that category.

Houston Texans CB Kris Boyd was fined $8,056 by the National Football League for committing an act of unsportsmanlike conduct on the opening kickoff of the Divisional Round playoff game versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Houston Texans president Greg Grissom has departed the organization and the team will begin searching for new leadership on the business side of their front office, according to multiple league sources.
Link to storyCorrecting a previous report, Houston Texans assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich's contract expired on Friday, Jan. 24. It was reported earlier Friday by another source that Popovich had been fired along with offensive line coach Chris Strausser and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Kearis Jackson and OG Jerome Carvin signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Houston Texans Friday, Jan. 24. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyHouston Texans offensive line coach Chris Strausser and assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich were fired on Friday, Jan. 24.
Link to storyHouston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik was fired on Friday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: Slowik was also a candidate for the Jets head coach job before Aaron Glenn took it, and he was a candidate for head coach jobs in Washington and Atlanta last year, so this is a bit of a surprise even though CJ Stroud regressed this season. The Texans also fired offensive line coach Chris Strausser. The offensive line was the critical point of failure for the offense this year. We'll be watching closely to see who the Texans bring in to aid Stroud's development. |
Free-agent OG Tremayne Anchrum Jr., CB Anthony Averett, DE Solomon Byrd, WR Johnny Johnson III, WR Xavier Johnson, RB Jawhar Jordan, CB Gregory Junior, DT Jayden Peevy, QB Kedon Slovis, RB. J.J. Taylor and S Russ Yeast were signed to the Reserve/Future contracts by the Houston Texans on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) does not have a timetable for his return at this point since it is too early in his recovery, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans.
Footballguys view: Dell's season ended on Dec. 21 in Kansas City, as the receiver suffered a severe knee injury. It's been a slow process for Dell. He underwent his first of several surgeries on Wednesday, nearly a month after he suffered the injury. The receiver dislocated his knee and damaged his meniscus in addition to suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL after a collision in the end zone with teammate Jared Wayne. He faces a long road back, one that is expected to keep him out through the 2025 season, given the extent of the injuries and multiple surgeries required to repair the damage. |

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud went 19-for-28 for 245 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round playoff game. He also rushed for 42 yards on six carries during the game. RB Joe Mixon rushed for 88 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries while also catching two passes for 12 yards. WR Nico Collins caught five passes for 81 yards on eight targets, TE Dalton Schultz caught four passes for 63 yards on four targets and WR Xavier Hutchinson caught four passes for 52 yards on six targets.
Footballguys view: The Texans put up a fight against the Chiefs, but they were unable to stop them late in the game as they pulled away. Stroud kept firing downfield even though he seemed to be under near-constant pressure in the fourth quarter. Collins came up huge on some key targets, even though the Chiefs were trying to take him away. Mixon had his usual workload and produced at an expected level. After shocking some with a win in the Wild Card Round, HC Demeco Ryans and the Texans should hold their head high with the way this season went down. |

Confirming a previous report, Houston Texans LB Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) will play in the team's Divisional Round playoff game versus the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 18. Houston Texans TE Teagan Quitoriano (calf) will not travel with the team this weekend and has been ruled for the team's Divisional Round game versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
Link to storyUpdating previous reports, Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) has a good chance of playing Saturday, Jan. 18, against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Footballguys view: Mixon would have to be severely hobbled to miss this game. Whether he will be up to his usual level of effectiveness or able to handle a heavy workload is a different question entirely. The Texans will probably put more on CJ Stroud's plate if Mixon can't handle 20-25 touches tomorrow. |

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 16, and is listed as questionable for the Divisional Round playoff game.
Footballguys view: Mixon will almost certainly gnash his team through this injury and play, but don't be surprised if the Texans run more of their offense through CJ Stroud on Saturday. |

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) had the first of several surgeries on his injured knee Thursday, Jan. 16.
Footballguys view: In Week 16 against the Chiefs, Dell dislocated his knee while also suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL - plus, he damaged his meniscus. His status for the entire 2025 season is up in the air, but with this major injury it is likely to be some time before we see him out there for the Texans again. |
