Bills | Khalil Shakir should be fine    Fri Jun 14, 11:56 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Khalil Shakir (undisclosed) should be fine despite suffering an injury during the minicamp this week, according to general manager Brandon Beane.

Footballguys view: The Bills wide receiver group doesn't have a clear #1 with Shakir, free agent signing Curtis Samuel, and #33 overall pick Keon Coleman all vying for targets. Shakir's injury is probably nothing, but we'll check back in next month when camp opens to make sure it is not limiting him. Shakir is the cheapest of the top three Bills wide receivers in fantasy drafts and was a favorite target of Josh Allen in the postseason.

Bills | Keon Coleman under contract    Thu Jun 13, 03:03 PM

Buffalo Bills second-round draft choice WR Keon Coleman (Florida State) signed a four-year contract worth a reported $10.074 million - including a $4.146 million signing bonus - on Thursday, June 13.

Footballguys view: Coleman is a big-bodied receiver that had a first-round grade. The Bills get him early in the second round, and he's there to become a favorite target for QB Josh Allen. The rookie will have a learning curve, but his sheer size and 'my ball' mentality means he could be a red-zone threat. We like Coleman as a WR4/flex play with upside in 2024.

Bills | Spencer Brown injury update    Sat Jun 8, 03:17 PM

Buffalo Bills OT Spencer Brown (shoulder) said he needed to undergo shoulder surgery this offseason because his shoulder dislocated after the team's playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Footballguys view: The Bills starting right tackle might not be a full participant in minicamp, but is expected to be ready for training camp. He has dealt with back and ankle injuries earlier in his career. The Bills signed La'el Collins earlier in the offseason. He would be the team's right tackle if Brown isn't ready to begin the season.

Bills | Josh Allen Likes What He Sees In Rookie WR Keon Coleman    Tue May 28, 04:41 PM

Bills quarterback Josh Allen wanted a big-bodied receiver as he heads into his seventh season in Buffalo. In the 2024 NFL Draft, Buffalo selected wide receiver Keon Coleman with the No. 33 overall pick to pair the 6-foot-3, 213-pound Florida State prospect with Allen, who believes Coleman's play-making ability is a perfect match with Buffalo's surrounding cast heading into the 2024 season. "I think his play style (is) what we needed in our offense," Allen told NFL Network.

Footballguys view: The Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Texans in April. No. 2 receiving option Gabe Davis signed with Jacksonville in free agency. As a duo, Diggs and Davis accounted for 241 targets, 152 catches, 1,929 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns last season. The Bills spent their offseason beefing up the WR room by adding Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chase Claypool, and Coleman. They join holdovers in Khalil Shakir and TE Dalton Kincaid, but expecting Coleman, given his size and unique skillset, to have a legitimate role in this offense is quite reasonable.

Bills | Chase Claypool Making Positive First Impression In Buffalo    Mon May 27, 05:03 PM

Chase Claypool, who signed a one-year deal with the Bills, is looking to earn a roster spot after limited snaps in 2023. So far, he's made a strong first impression in Buffalo. Bills head coach Sean McDermott was especially complementary of Claypool during the first week of OTAs. "Very impressed with Chase. Really just starting with his approach, here's a veteran receiver, former high pick, that has been on a journey, right, through the course of recently in his career," McDermott said. "I applaud Chase for coming here to see where things go, right. And so he's very focused; he's working extremely hard day in and day out."

Footballguys view: Claypool is now with his fourth NFL team since 2022. His production has continuously declined since his rookie season in 2020, when he caught 62 passes for 873 yards and nine touchdowns. In the three years since, Claypool has just four touchdowns. Expecting him to suddenly carve out a fantasy-relevant role in Buffalo is a reach.

Bills | Marquez Valdes-Scantling agrees with Buffalo    Tue May 14, 09:19 AM

Free-agent WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Chiefs) agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, May 14. The deal includes a $1.125 million signing bonus.

Footballguys view: After recording 1,807 total receiving yards from 2020 through 2022, Valdes-Scantling failed to live up to expectations with Kansas City in 2023. Despite appearing in 16 games, he hauled in just 21 catches for 315 yards and a touchdown. Still, MVS can threaten opposing defenses with his speed, and there's something to be said for playing alongside Josh Allen in Buffalo's high-powered offense. While the Bills drafted Keon Coleman in the second round of last month's draft, adding depth was needed after the team parted ways with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

Bills | Ray Davis to have early role?     Thu May 9, 12:52 AM

Buffalo Bills RB Ray Davis is a 'great complement' to RB James Cook, according to an NFL scout. 'He should get a lot of goal-line and short-yardage work, which should result in some touchdowns,' the scout said.

Footballguys view: Davis is fun to watch. He's a compact runner with the contact balance to keep his feet and maximize yards between the tackles. Davis is a good receiving option out of the backfield, and he can be a load to bring down in the open field. We like Davis as a reliable three-down back in the pros. Training camp and the preseason will determine how the touches in the backfield are split between Davis and Cook.

Bills | Curtis Samuel to move around?    Thu May 9, 12:52 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Curtis Samuel could be used out of the backfield this season by offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who utilized Samuel as a runner while the two were with the Carolina Panthers.

Footballguys view: That's the smart move with a player like Samuel. In Brady's first year as the Panthers' OC (2020), Samuel had 41 carries for 200 yards and two rushing touchdowns. That same season, Samuel posted career-best numbers as a receiver with 77 catches for 851 yards. We're not projecting him for those types of numbers in Buffalo. However, Samuel could snare 50 passes for around 600 yards and a few touchdowns in 2024.

Bills | Buffalo signs Chase Claypool    Fri May 3, 01:01 PM

Free-agent WR Chase Claypool (Dolphins) signed a one-year contract Friday, May 3, with the Buffalo Bills. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Good luck with that. Claypool has rare physical traits, but he's been a career disappointment since his first two seasons in the league (2020, 2021) with the Steelers. If he can stay focused and stay healthy, Claypool could show flashes of the player he used to be with his new team. That's a big if, so let's see how Claypool is performing in training camp before getting too interested in his potential this season.

Buffalo Bills DE Gregory Rousseau will have his fifth-year option exercised by the team, according to sources Monday, April 29.

Footballguys view: Rousseau, 24, has been a solid piece of the Bills defense, with 17.0 sacks, 30 tackles for loss, and 42 quarterback hits in his 46 games. In 2023, Rousseau had 5.0 sacks with 12 tackles for loss, and 18 QB hits in 16 games. He also recorded four passes defensed with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He remains a viable DE in IDP leagues.

The Buffalo Bills agreed to terms with free-agent WR Quintez Cephus (Lions) on a contract Sunday, April 28. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: A little over a week ago, the NFL reinstated Cephus from the reserve/suspended list. He was suspended indefinitely for gambling on NFL games A fifth-round pick (2020) out of Wisconsin for the Lions, Cephus now gets a fresh start. He can still fly down the field and take the top off the defense when healthy.

Kentucky RB Ray Davis was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 128th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: This is a really good pick for the Bills. Davis can run quickly to and through the hole to gash a defense for a big play. We like how he can contribute as a receiver out of the backfield as well. The Bills may emphasize the ground game a bit more this year, and Davis could be involved as a rotational player with James Cook.

University of Texas WR Adonai Mitchell and Florida State WR Keon Coleman are reportedly among the top targets for the Buffalo Bills if they hold onto the first pick of the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft on Friday, April 26.

Footballguys view: The Bills seemed set to select a wide receiver near the end of the first round. Then, they traded back with the Chiefs who selected WR Xavier Worthy (thanks for that Buffalo). Then, they moved completely out of the first round. Now, the Bills could select one of the receivers that is left over from Day 1 of the draft.
