Seahawks | DK Metcalf poised for a rebound? Thu Feb 13, 01:40 PM
Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf is coming off one of his worst seasons as a pro in 2024 (66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns). However, it appears one of the priorities for head coach Mike Macdonald when interviewing offensive coordinator candidates last month was how each one would not allow that to happen again.'We have to (maximize Metcalf). But we have to go through the process of how we do it. It's, how can you move him around? How you can take care of match-ups. The route tree that's available on how we want to build it,' Macdonald said.

Seahawks | Coach expects Geno Smith to be QB Sat Feb 8, 01:19 PM
Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith will be the starting quarterback for the Seahawks next season, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks will continue with Smith, but they've got to also be thinking about their future at the quarterback position. While a great story, and we love what he's done in Seattle, Smith has almost certainly peaked as a pro. With a 'meh' quarterback class in 2025, Seattle could be doing some early scouting on passers who are eligible to come to the pros in 2026. Either way, Smith's days as the starter in Seattle are numbered. |

Seahawks | Extension possible for Geno Smith Fri Feb 7, 02:58 PM
Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith could receive a contract extension this offseason so the team can lower his salary cap number for next season. He is currently expected to count $44.5 million against the cap in 2025.
Footballguys view: Smith wasn't elevated by or elevating the level of play in Ryan Grubb's offense last year, but the offensive line was a big reason why. We'll see if new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak can replicate some of the early season success he had in New Orleans and increase the value of Smith and the rest of the Seahawks offense. The Seahawks probably won't be in position to draft a quarterback early in 2026 or soon after, so extending the 34-year-old Smith is probably their best option for the near future. |

Former New Orleans Saints offensive line coach John Benton and quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko are expected to be hired by the Seattle Seahawks in their respective roles, according to sources Monday, Feb. 3.
Footballguys view: Janocko has previously been quarterbacks coach in New Orleans, Minnesota and Chicago and has worked with new Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Like Janocko, Benton held the same post with the Saints in 2024. Benton only spent a year with the Saints, but he's been around the NFL for the last two decades. He's had stops with the Jets, 49ers, Jaguars, Dolphins, Texans, and Rams. |

Seahawks | Klint Kubiak hired as offensive coordinator Sun Jan 26, 07:08 PM
The Seattle Seahawks are hiring Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, sources said Sunday, Jan. 26. He held the same position previously with the New Orleans Saints. He was reportedly the top choice for head coach Mike MacDonald.
Footballguys view: Kubiak was the hottest name of all NFL coordinators after two weeks and then his offense fell apart, at least in part due to injuries. This should be seen as good news for the Seahawks offense, although not everyone agreed that Ryan Grubb should have been fired, or even did a poor job in his first year as the offensive coordinator. Hopefully this offense can establish some continuity going forward. |

Seahawks | Hank Fraley meeting with Seattle again Tue Jan 21, 01:31 PM

Footballguys view: The Seahawks' first meeting with Fraley was virtual, but with Detroit knocked out of the playoffs, Fraley is free to interview in person. A former NFL lineman who reached a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, Fraley has only ever been an assistant or head offensive line coach. He's been with the Lions coaching staff since 2018, preceding current head coach Dan Campbell. Seattle will also have second interviews with former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Minnesota Vikings assistant OC/assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski. |

Seahawks | Grant Udinski speaking with Seahawks Fri Jan 17, 11:33 AM
Minnesota Vikings assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski has an in-person interview with the Seattle Seahawks for their offensive coordinator vacancy Friday, Jan. 17.
Footballguys view: Udinski is highly thought of around league circles even though his name might not be recognizable to even well-informed NFL fans. This won't be the last time we hear his name in consideration for a promotion, even if it doesn't come this year. |
Seahawks | Seattle to interview Klint Kubiak again Thu Jan 16, 11:33 AM
New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will have a second, in-person interview with the Seattle Seahawks for their offensive coordinator vacancy Friday, Jan. 17.
Footballguys view: Kubiak had the Saints offense rolling for the first couple of weeks of the 2024 season, then things fell apart. His system is a Shanahan design, so prepare for a lot of zone-blocking concepts if he gets the job in Seattle. |

Seahawks | Seattle reaches out to Klint Kubiak Thu Jan 9, 03:51 PM
New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is of interest to the Seattle Seahawks, who requested permission to interview him for the same post on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Footballguys view: The Saints had the hottest offense in the league....for the first two weeks of the regular season. Kubiak is from the Shanahan tree of coaching, and that offense is always going have interest from teams that don't run it. We'll see if Seattle wants to move into that wide-zone system in 2025 with Kubiak running the offense. |

Footballguys view: Thomas Brown was the Panthers OC in 2023 in addition to being the Bears OC in 2024 (before being asked to be the interim HC). In previous seasons, Brown had been getting buzz as a future head coach. We'll see if Seattle makes a move for him as Brown works his way up the coaching ranks. |

Seahawks | Ryan Grubb fired Mon Jan 6, 12:05 PM
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb was fired, according to sources Monday, Jan. 6.
Footballguys view: The move comes a day after the Seahawks finished 10-7 in Mike Macdonald's first season as head coach and after speculation had been mounting that Grubb's job was not safe. The Seahawks ranked 21st in offensive scoring (20.0 points per game), 14th in total offense (332.2), and eighth in passing yards (236.5). However, the run game Macdonald wanted to rely on as a defensive-minded head coach was a constant struggle, with Seattle finishing 28th in rushing (95.7) and 17th in yards per carry (4.2). Quarterback Geno Smith, a strong Grubb supporter, mentioned that fact while giving a glowing endorsement of his play-caller after Seattle closed out the season Sunday with a 30-25 win over the Los Angeles Rams. "I think Grubb is an excellent, excellent coordinator," Smith said. While the veteran quarterback finished with a 70.4 percent completion rate and 4,320 passing yards, Smith also threw 15 interceptions -- the most he's had since becoming Seattle's starting quarterback in 2022. Macdonald will now need to find a new offensive coordinator for his second season as head coach. |

Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith completed 20 of his 27 passes for 223 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in a 30-25 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18.
Footballguys view: According to Sunday's broadcast on FOX, Smith needed to finish the season surpassing 4,282 passing yards, maintain a completion rate higher than 69.75 percent, and earn Seattle its 10th win to hit three contract escalators worth $2 million apiece. He reached them all to earn an extra $6 million in the final game of the season. Smith was QB4 through Sunday afternoon's games with 26.3 points. |
