Patriots | Rhamondre Stevenson missing workouts    Mon May 19, 12:23 AM

New England Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson (personal) has been absent from recent voluntary offseason workouts while he deals with personal matters.

Footballguys view: Stevenson's father, Robert, passed away in March at age 54. Stevenson also lost his childhood friend, Brandan Harley, last season. Understanding that Stevenson has experienced sudden and heartbreaking losses in a short period of time, teammates privately say they hope to provide him with as much support as possible once he starts spending more time at the facility. Meanwhile, his recent absences during the voluntary offseason program might explain why the team signed veteran Trayveon Williams to a one-year deal on Wednesday, adding another layer of depth to better evenly distribute some of the work.

Cowboys | DAL unlikely to make further moves at running back    Sun May 18, 11:18 AM

The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to make any further moves at running back this offseason, after signing RBs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency and drafting RBs Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.

Footballguys view: Many thought the Cowboys would do more, but all offseason they've insisted they're happy with this group. Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer expressed support for Williams at the owner's meetings (and coaches breakfast) earlier this year. Williams is the season veteran who is sound as a runner, receiver, and in pass protection. However, he's not been the same since injuring his knee with the Broncos a few years ago. Let's see if Williams can win this job in camp, but expect the team to use multiple backs in an RBBC that Fantasy GMs may avoid.

Dolphins | Ollie Gordon II headed for quiet rookie year?    Sat May 17, 12:22 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Ollie Gordon II is 'probably still a long shot for real production' as a rookie, according to Mike Clay of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Gordon is a talented rookie the Dolphins were able to add out of Oklahoma State in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He's got power to his game, and he's an efficient runner who wastes little motion between the tackles. Gordon is competing for the no.3 spot on the depth chart (behind De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright) with Alexander Mattison. We like stashing Gordon in deep dynasty, but his path to redraft value in 2025 seems cluttered.

Colts | Limited role for DJ Giddens?    Sat May 17, 11:54 AM

Indianapolis Colts RB DJ Giddens could 'max out' as an early-down backup to RB Jonathan Taylor, according to Mike Clay of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Giddens has talent, and the Kansas State rusher is a slashing back who can knife through lanes while eating up yards quickly. He was a productive player for the Wildcats, and his consistency was a hallmark to his game. Giddens looks like the no.3 back for the Colts this year behind Taylor and Khalil Herbert. There's a chance Giddens pushes Herbert for the primary backup job.

Dolphins | De'Von Achane hopes to be more productive    Sat May 17, 12:26 AM

Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane said he believes he was not as productive as he could have been in 2024 and hopes to rush for at least 1,000 yards this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Achane rushed for 907 yards last year, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Those totals were significantly boosted by a pair of monster runs at the end of the season when he gained 50 yards on a second-half run in a win over the San Francisco 49ers and 61 yards on one run in Miami's season-closing loss to the New York Jets. Before those big gains, Achane averaged less than 3.3 yards per carry in eight regular-season games. Miami's offensive line struggled so much in 2024 that the coaching staff equated short passes to Achane as substitutions for running plays, and that's why he caught a career-high 78 passes and turned them into 592 yards and six receiving touchdowns, which brought his 2024 total to 12. This year, Miami upgraded their guard spots by signing James Daniels as a free agent and drafting Jonah Savaiinaea in the second round. For fantasy investors, there will be no discounts. Achane, who finished as RB6 last year, is going as RB7 with the 18th pick overall in early best balls.

Ravens | Derrick Henry the king of yards after contact in 2024    Fri May 16, 12:53 AM

Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry ran for a league-high 909 yards after contact during the 2024 regular season, according to Pro Football Reference.

Footballguys view: Henry is pretty much a Mack truck between the tackles...or anywhere on the field. When he builds a head of steam, Henry is extremely difficult to bring down. With a new contract extension signed this week, Henry is set to lead the way on the ground for the Ravens again. We should see Henry get around 300 carries again this year after a monster 2024 with 325 carries, 1.921 yards, and 16 rushing touchdowns.

Patriots | Trayveon Williams signed    Wed May 14, 04:11 PM

Free-agent RB Trayveon Williams (Bengals) signed with the New England Patriots Wednesday, May 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also released DT Eric Johnson.

Footballguys view: Williams, 28, has spent the last six seasons with the Bengals after joining the team as a sixth-round draft pick) in the 2019 NFL Draft. The 5-8, 206-pounder has played in 68 regular season games and has 62 rushing attempts for 307 yards and 15 receptions for 74 yards. He has also returned 33 kicks for 743 yards. Last season, he played in all 17 games for the Bengals, mostly on special teams. That's also his likely role in New England, with Ramondre Stevenson, rookie TreVeyon Herndson, and Antonio Gibson ahead of him on the current depth chart.

Packers | No limitations for Josh Jacobs    Wed May 14, 03:00 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs is looking better than he did at this time last year and will not have any limitations during offseason workouts, according to running backs coach Ben Sirmans.

Footballguys view: As CheeseheadTV.com suggested, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst took a gamble replacing longtime locker room leader and fan favorite Aaron Jones with Jacobs, but it paid off. In his first season with Green Bay, Jacobs finished sixth in the league with 1,329 YDs rushing on 301 attempts. He averaged 4.4 YDs per carry and totaled 15 rushing TDs, third among running backs. He was reliable, playing in all 17 games and caught 43 passes for 342 yards, scoring his first career receiving touchdown in week 7. His average of 9.5 yards per catch was second among the top 25 running backs in catches. But make no mistake, handing the ball to Jacobs is a winning formula, and we'll see it again this season. Jacobs is RB10 on the initial Footballguys 2025 Projections. That aligns directly with his current RB10 Average Draft Position in early Underdog best-ball drafts. Fantasy managers who invest in anticipated workload will find this price appealing.

Ravens | Derrick Henry agrees to extension    Wed May 14, 01:46 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with the Ravens Wednesday, May 14, worth $30 million. Henry is guaranteed to receive $25 million over the next two seasons.

Footballguys view: It is the largest deal in NFL history for a running back over 30 years old. Henry is 31 years old and coming off a phenomenal first season in Baltimore, having compiled 1,921 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on a career-high 5.9 yards per carry across 17 regular-season games. He added 193 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 19 catches. He became the first player in NFL history with multiple seasons of 1,900-plus rush yards. Henry, who signed a two-year contract with the Ravens last year, had been set to become a free agent after this season before agreeing to this new extension. Fantasy investors were already all in on Henry, who is going as RB6 in early best-ball drafts. He's RB7 on the initial Footballguys 2025 Draft Projections.

Jaguars | Jacksonville has plans for LeQuint Allen    Wed May 14, 08:58 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars seventh-round draft choice RB LeQuint Allen is 'kind of an interesting player' who can play a little bit of slot, according to head coach Liam Coen.'Then you look at (LeQuint) Allen, kind of an interesting player. Can play a little bit of slot. Move him into the backfield. Obviously, he had 1,000 yards over the last two years, and then he can catch the ball out of the back field. Good in the screen game. Competitor, man,' Coen told SI.com.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars made two additions to their running back room in the 2025 NFL Draft, taking Bhayshul Tuten at the top of the fourth round and doubling up with Allen. While it is clear what Tuten offers in terms of game-breaking speed with his 4.32 40-yard dash, Allen brings something entirely his own to the table: his impact in the passing game. He was not just productive on screens and check-downs, either. He frequently lined up at wide receiver for Syracuse, proving his versatility as a weapon. Allen is one of only two players nationally with 1,000-plus rushing yards (1,021) and 500 receiving yards (521) in the 2024 season. Still, as a seventh-round pick, Allen has much to prove in a backfield with Tuten and veteran holdovers Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby.

Panthers | Trevor Etienne inks with Carolina    Tue May 13, 01:59 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Trevor Etienne signed his rookie contract on Tuesday, May 13. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Etienne, the younger brother of Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, played two years at Florida before transferring to Georgia for the 2024 season. He ran 122 times for 609 yards and nine touchdowns while also catching 32 passes in his lone season with the Bulldogs. With 2024 second-round pick Jonathon Brooks (knee) already ruled out for this season, Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, and Raheem Blackshear are the remaining running backs for Carolina.

Jaguars | Tank Bigsby on the bubble?    Tue May 13, 12:41 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby is not 'guaranteed' a roster spot for the 2025 season, in the opinion of Jacksonville.com's Demetrius Harvey, who notes that Jacksonville has worked to reshape the offensive line and running back positions following the hiring of new head coach Liam Coen.

Footballguys view: In another effort to reshape the team's running backs room, the Jaguars took two backs in this year's draft. Bhayshul Tuten, drafted out of Virginia Tech, is the most likely to receive extensive playing time. According to Times-Union staffer Demetrius Harvey, head coach Liam Coen's scouting report indicates that Tuten could get some playing time as the team's change-of-pace back but can play all three downs if needed. Jacksonville is entering the year with top backs Travis Etienne and Bigsby on board. Still, given the extensive work the team has done to reshape the offensive line and their running backs room, Harvey contends neither player's roster spot should be guaranteed. We'll monitor this situation closely throughout training camp.

Broncos | RJ Harvey praised by head coach    Sun May 11, 11:27 AM

Denver Broncos RB RJ Harvey saw a lot of work in the passing game during rookie minicamp Saturday, May 10, and head coach Sean Payton said he liked what he saw out of Harvey. 'Well, he's going to play on third down,' Payton said. 'There's a lot we can do to suit his strengths.''

Footballguys view: Harvey was a standout during rookie minicamp over the weekend. His speed is apparent from the jump, and he can be dangerous in space. Harvey dances a bit too much at times on outside runs, but he shows discipline on inside carries where he can hide behind the line and then burst at the second level. The Broncos backfield is wide open, and Harvey is primed to be the lead back for Sean Payton...that alone should get Fantasy GMs attention come draft season.

Texans | Woody Marks signs rookie deal    Sat May 10, 05:05 PM

Houston Texans fourth-round draft choice RB Woody Marks signed a four-year contract with the Texans Saturday, May 10, worth $6 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Marks ran 198 times for 1,133 yards and nine touchdowns after transferring from Mississippi State to USC last year. He also caught 47 passes for 321 yards with the Trojans. Joe Mixon, Dare Ogunbowale, Dameon Pierce, J.J. Taylor, and Jawhar Jordan will join Marks in the backfield mix for the Texans.

Patriots | TreVeyon Henderson on field Saturday    Sat May 10, 04:33 PM

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (undisclosed) participated in practice Saturday, May 10, after missing practice Friday, May 9, because of an undisclosed reason.

Footballguys view: As USA Today's Danny Jaillet noted, there's hope that Henderson could either push Rhamondre Stevenson for the top running back job or serve as a strong complementary option. His explosive running style and pass-blocking abilities are two of his biggest assets. He has also shown exceptional receiving skills. Jaillet added the home-run potential is evident every time Henderson has the ball in his hands. So it'll fall on the Patriots to get him involved as much as possible on offense. We expect that to happen. Henderson is RB27 on the Footballguys 2025 Projections. Stevenson is RB38.

Cowboys | Jaydon Blue to have early role?    Sat May 10, 11:09 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue should be able to play early as a third-down back, according to ESPN's Matt Miller.

Footballguys view: Miller noted that Blue may be a fifth-round pick, but Dallas lacks a home run threat and strong receiving back. In the College Football Playoffs, Blue showed how impactful he can be when matched up against linebackers and safeties as a route runner. With Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders available to handle early-down, between-the-tackles work, it'll be worth watching Blue to see if he can make good on Miller's expectations.

Browns | Carson Schwesinger, Dylan Sampson sign deals    Sat May 10, 07:16 AM

Cleveland Browns second-round draft choice LB Carson Schwesinger and fourth-round draft choice Dylan Sampson signed four-year contracts with the Browns Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Both players will be expected to contribute early. Schwesinger could push to start in a linebacking corps that will likely be without Pro Bowler Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah for a still-unknown amount of time. Sampson was the second running back the Browns picked, the first being Quinshon Judkins in Round 2. Sampson may have been selected higher in another class, but the 2025 running back prospect class was deep, so he fell into the fourth round. Sampson will have to battle Jerome Ford for reps behind Judkins this season.

Jacksonville Jaguars third-round draft choice CB Caleb Ransaw, sixth-round draft choice S Rayuan Lane III and seventh-round draft choice RB LeQuint Allen signed four-year contracts with the Jaguars Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: We like LeQuint Allen in crazy deep dynasty formats. There's a dash of James Cook to his game, and he can make plays as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. With the future of Travis Etienne unknown, Allen is a player to monitor in training camp.

Saints | Five rookie under contract    Fri May 9, 04:22 PM

New Orleans Saints fourth-round draft choice LB Danny Stutsman, fourth-round draft choice CB Quincy Riley, sixth-round draft choice RB Devin Neal, seventh-round draft choice TE Moliki Matavao and seventh-round draft choice DE Fadil Diggs signed four-year contracts with the Saints Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Neal is the type of runner who reminded some in the scouting community of Joe Mixon. He's a late-round pick, so Neal is not a given for the 53-man roster in New Orleans. However, he's got a three-down skill set and could be a starter in the league. That's why we're monitoring him in super deep dynasty formats.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Any running back added to the 49ers roster will attract out attention. James can turn short passes into long gains with speed and quickness. We'll watch him in camp as he works to earn a roster spot behind starting RB Christian McCaffrey.

Washington Commanders fourth-round draft choice WR Jaylin Lane, sixth-round draft choice LB Kain Medrano and seventh=round draft choice RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt signed four-year contracts with the Commanders Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Lane is a player who can attack all three levels of the field with speed. He is buried on the depth chart right now, but Lane's speed and moves in the open field will be intriguing enough to earn him a roster spot where he can develop. Croskey-Merritt is one of our favorite sleeper running backs in this class. He's got a three-down skill set with intent as a runner and decent receiving chops. Watch Croskey-Merritt in crazy deep dynasty leagues.

Dolphins | Miami locks up five picks    Fri May 9, 11:31 AM

Miami Dolphins fifth-round pick DT Jordan X. Phillips, fifth-round pick CB Jason Marshall Jr., fifth-round pick S Dante Trader Jr., sixth-round pick RB Ollie Gordon II and seventh-round pick DT Zeek Biggers signed their rookie four-year deals Friday, May 9. Phillips, Marshall and Trader, all selected in the fifth round, will each total about $4.6 million on the scale. Gordon, a sixth-round pick, is due to make more than $4.4 million. Ewers and Biggers, as seventh-rounders, are set to make around $4.3 million.

Footballguys view: Gordon is a player we appreciate because of his size/athleticism combination. He's a big-bodied back (226 pounds) with the movement skills of a smaller back. In the NFL, Gordon needs to show the ability to use his size as a weapon in a power game. The rookie is competing for a reserve spot this year behind De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright.

Indianapolis Colts third-round pick CB Justin Walley, fourth-round pick OT Jalen Travis, fifth-round pick RB DJ Giddens, sixth-round pick QB Riley Leonard, sixth-round pick DT Tim Smith and seventh-round pick S Hunter Wohler.

Footballguys view: We like the upside of Giddens in deep dynasty formats. He's a slashing runner who doesn't waste a ton of motion with the ball in his hands. Giddens needs to prove himself better as a pass catcher (too many drops), and perhaps add some more muscle to his frame. He will compete for a reserve spot behind Jonathan Taylor and Khalil Herbert.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, May 8, and will miss the entire 2025 season.

Footballguys view: Terrible news for Brooks here. He fell to the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft because of a 2023 knee injury he suffered in his final season with the Texas Longhorns. Brooks barely played as a rookie, then he re-injured the ligament in Week 14. The Panthers move forward with Chuba Hubbard as their top back.   Jaguars | Travis Etienne not a lock for 2025?    Thu May 8, 02:16 AM

That includes drafting RBs Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen.

Footballguys view: Tuten has a ton of speed, and Allen is a player who could thrive on all three downs due to his athleticism and contact balance. If the team moves on from Etienne, those two rookies could play a larger role.

Giants | Cam Skattebo may be part of passing game    Wed May 7, 03:51 PM

New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo is expected to be used as a receiver out of the backfield this upcoming season because the team likes how he tracks the ball.

Footballguys view: Skattebo was our highest-ranked running back heading into Day 3 of the Draft. He was the pre-draft RB6 on the Footballguys Rookie Draft Guide 2.0 Running Back Rankings. He also landed on the team with his best opportunity for playing time. The Giants had Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary as their two running backs last season. According to Pro Football Focus, the Giants earned the fourth-fewest rushing yards from their running backs at 1,307 and the third-fewest first downs at 64. One of the Giants' problems has been their offensive line. Skattebo was one of the best running backs on non-perfectly blocked runs at ASU last year and one of the best at converting first downs. If the Giants trust him to handle more than between-the-tackles work, there is a chance Skattebo becomes the Giants' lead running back sooner rather than later.

Patriots | Jonah Savaiinaea was a consideration at No. 38    Wed May 7, 12:57 AM

University of Arizona OL Jonah Savaiinaea was a strong consideration for the New England Patriots with the 38th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft until the Miami Dolphins traded with the Las Vegas Raiders to get one pick ahead of the Patriots and select him. The Patriots ended up selecting Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson at No. 38.'According to multiple league sources, the player that they were discussing was Arizona guard/tackle Jonah Savaiinaea. He was the guy. And the Dolphins happened to, all of a sudden, jump in front of the Patriots sending a third-round pick to the Raiders.   Bears | Travis Homer likely to stick    Mon May 5, 02:36 AM

Chicago Bears RB Travis Homer is a 'relatively secure' pick to make the 53-man roster, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, who notes that it is Homer's special teams ability that makes him a safer selection to make the club than fellow backup RBs Roschon Johnson and Kyle Monangai.

Footballguys view: There are still questions at the position with D'Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, and seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai, but all three are ahead of Homer in the offensive pecking order. Swift is going at a discount as RB32, with the 100th pick overall in current best-balls, and Johnson is available at the tail end of drafts. Monangai and Homer don't have ADPs.
