49ers | San Francisco taking a look at veteran RBs Tue Sep 13, 05:00 PM
Free-agent RBs Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Nate McCrary, Abram Smith, La'Mical Perine and Godwin Igwebuike worked out for the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Free-agent Marlon Mack also visited with the 49ers.
Footballguys view: The interest in veteran RBs makes sense with Elijah Mitchell on Injured Reserve. Jeff Wilson will serve as the team's starter with rookies Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price working as reserves in the 49ers' backfield. |

Saints | New Orleans reuniting with Latavius Murray Tue Sep 13, 04:59 PM
Free-agent RB Latavius Murray (Ravens) was signed to the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Footballguys view: The Saints weren't effective on the ground against the Falcons in Week 1. Mark Ingram did not play well, and Alvin Kamara seemed to have a ribs injury. Perhaps Murray could get elevated to the active roster and get some playing time as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. |

49ers | Elijah Mitchell put on injured reserve Tue Sep 13, 04:54 PM
San Francisco 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Footballguys view: The 49ers will keep chugging along on offense with RB Jeff Wilson as their lead back. Without Mitchell as the starter, backup (UDFA rookie) Jordan Mason will get more time behind Wilson as well. The 49ers also have 2022 third-round pick Tyrion Davis-Price on the depth chart behind Wilson and Mason. As 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said, these rookies (Mason, Davis-Price) will have to grow up fast. |

Patriots | Ty Montgomery headed to IR Tue Sep 13, 04:50 PM
New England Patriots RB Ty Montgomery (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 13. WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey was signed off the practice squad to replace him on the roster.
Footballguys view: Montgomery was supposed to be the team's replacement for James White (retired). Instead, he's going to IR and the Patriots are going to turn to Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson more on passing downs. |

Rams | Kyren Williams lands on IR Tue Sep 13, 03:08 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Footballguys view: Williams has talent, but the rookie just can't shake the injury bug. Instead of working into the RB rotation, Williams will be shut down with a 6-8 week timetable for recovery from his high-ankle sprain. Jake Funk will now serve as the Rams' no.3 back behind Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson. |
Texans | Dameon Pierce to be more involved Tue Sep 13, 02:36 PM
Houston Texans RB Dameon Pierce played a meager 20 of 70 offensive snaps in Week 1, but head coach Lovie Smith intends to get him playing time moving forward.'Some of the other things we did in the game, looking on the offensive side of the football, I understand how many plays Dameon Pierce played. The plan of course was for him to get more. You get into the game and situations make you go a little bit different direction. You learn from those mistakes like that, mistakes of those situations that you look at the day after,' Smith said.
Footballguys view: We saw more from Rex Burkhead in Week 1. The team travels to play the Broncos in Week 2, and there will be an opportunity to get the rookie more touches. We'll keep Pierce on the roster, but don't trust him until you see him break out. |
Seahawks | Kenneth Walker III should play in Week 2 Tue Sep 13, 01:05 PM
Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III (hernia) will play in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers, according to head coach Pete Carroll.
Footballguys view: That's good news for the Seahawks, coming off their big win in Week 1 against the Broncos. On Monday night, Rashaad Penny led the way on the ground with 60 yards on just 12 carries. Overall, the Seahawks only had 19 carries in Week 1. That number will grow with a different plan in Week 2. One plan that includes Walker for the first time this season. Stash him on your bench, and know there could be some flex appeal for the rookie in an RBBC with Penny. If/when Penny is banged up, Walker has RB2 upside for Fantasy GMs. |
Steelers | Najee Harris says he's playing Tue Sep 13, 10:57 AM
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris (foot) said he'll be playing in Week 2.
Footballguys view: The news about Harris has been positive since he aggravated his Lisfranc injury on Sunday against the Bengals. The Steelers' offense looked out of sync, and it was their defense that lead the way to the big win on the road. In Week 2, the Steelers face the Patriots and Harris should be the primary back. Behind him, Jaylen Warren is there to do more if asked. |

Falcons | Damien Williams avoids injury Tue Sep 13, 12:50 AM
Atlanta Falcons RB Damien Williams (ribs) suffered an injury to his ribs in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, although he said Monday, Sept. 12 that he is sore, but no ribs are broken.
Footballguys view: The Falcons' rushing attack was all about Cordarrelle Patterson in Week 1. Rookie Tyler Allgeier was a healthy scratch on Sunday, and we'll see if the team decides to activate him against the Rams in Week 2. Even if Williams can play, it might be wise to have another RB at the ready to at least give Patterson a breather. |

Texans | Royce Freeman returning to Houston Mon Sep 12, 03:21 PM
Free-agent RB Royce Freeman (Texans) was added to the practice squad of the Houston Texans on Monday, Sept. 12.
Footballguys view: Freeman has been bounced on and off the Texans roster (and practice squad) multiple times just this calendar year. In crazy deep dynasty formats we'll continue to monitor him, but the former third-round pick of the Broncos just doesn't have enough staying power to get a chance. |

49ers | Elijah Mitchell likely to miss a few weeks Mon Sep 12, 02:21 PM
San Francisco 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) underwent an MRI on Monday, Sept. 12. Although the team is still in the process of determining the full extent of the injury, he is expected to miss multiple weeks.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks are at home in Week 2 against the Seahawks. We should see RB Jeff Wilson get work as the team's lead back, and they'll continue to have a rotation of backs with guys like Jordan Mason behind him. We'll also see WR Deebo Samuel share some of the workload of carries in the 49ers backfield. |

Steelers | Najee Harris aggravated preseason foot injury? Mon Sep 12, 02:18 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris (foot) reportedly tweaked the Lisfranc injury that he suffered last month, according to a source via NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: There was a scary play against the Bengals where Harris was tackled awkwardly. The Steelers will likely take it easy on Harris during the week of practice every week he can deal with and play through this injury. If you have the bench space, go ahead and grab Jaylen Warren as a stash play in case Harris has to miss time. |

Texans | Rex Burkhead led the way Mon Sep 12, 12:44 PM
Updating a previous report, Houston Texans RB Rex Burkhead played on 71 percent of the snaps in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Burkhead got a huge portion of the workload, while rookie RB Dameon Pierce only got 28 percent of the work in the backfield. It's clear the coaching staff trusts Burkhead more, especially on passing downs. As Pierce gets better, mainly in pass protection, the team could start using these two more in a 50-50 RBBC. In Week 2, both Pierce and Burkhead have flex appeal against the Broncos. |
