Giants | G-Men prioritizing QB, per GM Wed Feb 26, 09:29 AM
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen will prioritize the quarterback position this offseason, he told reporters at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, Feb. 25. 'We've got to be better, we were a three-win team,' Schoen said. 'Where we are financially, from a salary cap standpoint, we're in good shape. We have premium draft capital. Not suffocating. We have the resources to improve the roster. We made some decisions after the first year when we won, and they didn't work out. Again, we're where we are and again, I feel like we have the resources to improve the roster and that's what's exciting about this time of year.' New York holds the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and currently has a projected $48 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.
Footballguys view: Could that quarterback be Colorado's Shedeur Sanders? Giants HC Brian Daboll seemed cozy around Sanders during the week of practice for the East-West Shrine Bowl earlier this year. Sanders is a pocket passer that can dice up defenses with his arm and anticipation. He's not a scrambler, but Sanders can keep plays alive behind the line of scrimmage by sliding and keeping his eyes downfield. |
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is expected to receive trade interest from the New York Giants if the Rams and Stafford are not able to reach an agreement on a new deal.

New York Giants WR Wan'Dale Robinson's 699 receiving yards in 2024 were 124 fewer than any other player who finished in the top 20 in receptions.

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson is expected to be an option for the New York Giants if he hits the free-agent market, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: Any available veteran with a pulse is fair game for a team with only Tommy DeVito under contract. It's worth noting that Wilson seems eager to return to Pittsburgh, and talks with the Steelers are ongoing. The Raiders have also been mentioned as a possible destination if things don't work out between Wilson and the Steelers. |

New York Giants QB Tommy DeVito is the only quarterback on the team's current roster who is under contract for the 2025 season, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The team is expected to be active in the free-agent market for quarterbacks and are also considering selecting a QB with the third overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Jameis Winston and Sam Darnold are two possibilities for the Giants, who are selecting #3 and could have a chance to take of the top two quarterbacks on the board. If they sign Winston or Darnold in free agency, it could be a sign that they aren't going to take Colorado's Shadeur Sanders or Miami's Cam Ward with the #3 pick (or attempt to move up to #1 or #2 to take one of them). |
Former NFL cornerback and current Louisiana Tech co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Jeff Burris was named as the new secondary/cornerbacks coach for the New York Giants on Thursday, Feb. 6.

New York Giants PK Mason Crosby announced his retirement Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Footballguys view: "My 17 seasons in the NFL surpassed all of my childhood hopes and dreams," Crosby wrote on social media. He played 16 of those seasons with the Packers, where he became the franchise's all-time leading scorer. His 1,939 points are 11th in NFL history. His records are more than secure. His 1,918 points with the Packers are 864 more than Ryan Longwell's 1,054 in second place. His 395 field goals with the Packers top the franchise mark as well. Longwell's 169 is a distant second. Crosby's last season for the Packers was in 2022. After the season, the team moved in a different direction at kicker. Crosby, 40, wasn't ready to call it quits, however. He finished his career with the New York Giants late in the 2023 season. He didn't play in 2024. |

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Jameis Winston said he absolutely has interest in signing with the New York Giants in the offseason.
Footballguys view: When Winston, who was asking questions for FOX during Super Bowl media day on Monday, asked Saquon Barkley which team would sign him in free agency, Barkley threw a jab at the Giants, whose refusal to re-sign him led him to the rival Eagles. "I think New York needs a quarterback right now," Barkley said. The Giants, who don't have a quarterback on the roster, obviously need a new signal caller. And while they'll probably look to take one with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Winston, who threw for 2,121 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in Cleveland, could be a decent bridge. Winston noted: "I'm a free agent; I don't really get no job." Stay tuned. |

Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders spent significant time with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll at the East-West Shrine Game practices this week.
Footballguys view: The latest draft buzz doesn't have quarterbacks automatically going at the 1 and 2 picks even though the Titans and Browns need a quarterback. The Giants could have their pick of Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward, the other quarterback projected to go in the first round by most. The Giants taking a quarterback at three could initially cause a bump in the dynasty value of Malik Nabers and others, but it might not make them better for 2025 redraft leagues with a rookie learning the ropes. The success of Jayden Daniels this year could lead to unfair expectations for Sanders and Ward. |
New York Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel is a potential candidate to join the coaching staff of the New York Giants in some defensive capacity, according to a source.

New York Giants passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson and safeties coach Mike Treier were fired Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Link to storyNew York Giants WR Malik Nabers led all rookies with 109 receptions this season, and his 19 forced missed tackles were tied for the fifth most among all receivers.
Footballguys view: Nabers is a stud. He can make defenders miss with ease, using a blend of speed and quickness to create his own space. Then, he uses those same tools to gash defenses after the catch. The Giants need a quarterback, but they've got a superstar level receiver in Nabers. |
Free-agent DT Ross Blacklock, C Bryan Hudson, PK Jude McAtamney, C Jimmy Morrissey and DT Casey Rogers signed Reserve/Future contracts with the New York Giants Monday, Jan. 6. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen will return in 2025.
Footballguys view: New York finished with a 3-14 record, cycled through three different starting quarterbacks, and despite glimpses of their potential, the Giants never found solid footing. Despite incessant calls from Giants fans demanding change, owners John Mara and Steve Tisch are keeping the status quo, hoping solidifying quarterback will right this ship. The pressure will remain on Daboll and spill onto Schoen, who has a major decision ahead of him that will determine how long they are employed by the Giants. Mara told reporters Monday that he made it clear to Daboll and Schoen what the priority will be going into 2025. "That's obviously the No. 1 issue for us going into this offseason, is to find our quarterback of the future," Mara said. "Whether that be via the draft or acquiring a veteran, it's going to be up to them to decide, ultimately." Mara indicated that Daboll and Schoen's futures are not guaranteed past the following season if, QB or not, the Giants don't improve. "It better not take too long," Mara said of a Big Blue turnaround, "because I've just about run out of patience." |

New York Giants WR Wan'Dale Robinson ended up with 10 receptions for 43 yards on 11 targets in Week 18 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Link to storyNew York Giants WR Malik Nabers posted five receptions for a team-high 64 yards with a touchdown on eight targets in Week 18 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He finished with 109 receptions to set the franchise's single-season record for most catches.
Footballguys view: As NFL.com put it, "In a forgettable season, at least the Giants had Nabers." The rookie is sensational, and despite missing two games, he set the rookie wide receiver record and briefly leapfrogs Raiders tight end Brock Bowers for the most ever by a rookie. Sunday's loss gives Giants ownership plenty to consider in deciding whether or not to move forward with general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. But having a superstar in the making will help regardless of the direction taken. Fantasy managers should expect to pay a premium in 2025 drafts. Footballguy Dave Kluge has Nabers going at the tail end of the first round in his (Way Too Early) 2025 Fantasy Football Draft Rankings. |

Link to storyNew York Giants WR Malik Nabers caught seven passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17. He was targeted eight times during the game.
Footballguys view: Nabers had his best day as a pro and finally resumed the early season torrid pace he established before the Giants season crashed and burned. It will be interesting to see if he or his college teammate Brian Thomas Jr. go higher next season among the 2024 draft class of wide receivers. Who the Giants trot out there at quarterback will be a big part of the equation. |

New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. rushed for 59 yards on 20 carries against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17. He also caught two passes for 14 yards during the game.
Footballguys view: Tracy wasn't a fantasy difference maker in Week 17, but he was one of the most valuable waiver wire pickups of the season and he should be the lead back for the Giants next season. The wide receiver convert still has a lot of room to grow and should be drafted as an upside RB2 next season. Congratulations if you got him in your dynasty rookie draft, often in the third or fourth round. |
New York Giants QB Drew Lock went 17-for-23 for 309 yards and four touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17.
Footballguys view: Lock had a career game, in part because he was willing to pass downfield to Malik Nabers more than he did in his earlier starts. The Colts defense was weary and Lock showed his arm talent and ability to extend plays, but probably at the expense of the Giants holding the #1 pick and getting their choice of the quarterback crop next year. |
