Dolphins | Terron Armstead likely to agree to reworked deal Tue Feb 25, 02:31 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Terron Armstead is expected to agree to a restructured contract that will take his 2025 salary from $28.6 million to the league minimum, which would reportedly create $14 million of cap space for the team.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill (wrist) had surgery to repair a ligament in his left wrist Tuesday, Feb. 25, and will be ready for training camp.
Footballguys view: Hill was up in his feelings after the season ended for the Dolphins, but things seem to be patched up. He'll return this season as the Dolphins try to push for the postseason. After battling this nagging injury last year, a healthy Hill could once again be a threat (and a fantasy factor) in 2025. |

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill is not expected to be traded this offseason even though he expressed some frustrations after the season, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: This isn't a huge surprise. Hill's trade request after the regular-season finale was made out of frustration, and the veteran wideout has made amends as recently as this week. That said, there are still concerns. Hill, who will enter the season at 31, didn't hit the high-end speeds last season that we've seen in the past. And Tua Tagovailoa's concussion history further ratchets up the risk level. But it's also worth remembering Hill is just a year removed from league-winning production. As we head into drafts this year, landing Hill in Round 3 as either a WR2 or WR3 gives you plenty of latitude to mitigate the risk. |

Washington Commanders impending free-agent QB Marcus Mariota likely will receive interest from the Miami Dolphins during free agency, in the opinion of ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins and the Raiders could be interested in Mariota. He's got plenty of starting experience, and the Dolphins could use him as veteran insurance behind Tua Tagovailoa. The Raiders might use him as a starter where he could be reunited with his college coach (and current Las Vegas OC) Chip Kelly. |

University of Alabama QB Jalen Milroe has had some conversations with the Miami Dolphins at the Senior Bowl in Mobile (AL) this week, which is possible because the Dolphins have multiple coaches on the Senior Bowl coaching staff.
Footballguys view: Milroe had an up-and-down week of practice at the Senior Bowl. The physical talent is there in terms of athleticism and arm strength. However, he needs to have refined skill as a passer. Teams will consider Milroe a developmental prospect with a ton of upside if he plays up to his potential. |
Former Tennessee Titans special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman was hired to the same post by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Footballguys view: Aukerman, 48, last coached in 2023 under then Titans' coach Mike Vrabel. He has served as special teams coordinator for all of Vrabel's six seasons as Tennessee's head coach. He was previously a special teams coordinator for the Chargers in 2016 and was an assistant special teams coordinator for Tennessee and Jacksonville. Miami fired former special teams coordinator Danny Crossman earlier this month after three seasons with the team. |

Link to storyMiami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa set a franchise record in 2024 by completing 72.9% of his passes.
Footballguys view: Tagovailoa missed more time in 2024, but when he was out there he was an accurate passer. Dolphins GM Chris Grier said after the season that there is no concern about Tagovailoa's hip injury that cost him the final two weeks. He also said the team would leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding a better backup quarterback this offseason. |

Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane averaged 104.6 yards from scrimmage and 6.1 receptions in the 11 games started by QB Tua Tagovailoa, and Achane scored 11 of his 12 touchdowns during those contests.
Footballguys view: Achane was a hit as a second round pick last year, and there's a case to take him in the first round this year, but as this stat lays out, Tua Tagovailoa will have to stay healthy for Achane to deliver on that promise. Hopefully the Dolphins will get more than 11 games out of their starting quarterback next season. |
Miami Dolphins impending free-agent S Jevon Holland said he is open to re-signing with the Dolphins this offseason but is also willing to sign another team during free agency.

Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith set franchise records this season in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown for a tight end. Smith finished the season with 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns.
Footballguys view: Smith started slow, but eventually became the one of the primary targets in the Dolphins passing game, at times even drawing more targets than Tyreek Hill. He is under contract next year at a bargain price of $3.5 million and will go in the top 10 tight ends this year after going undrafted in some leagues in 2024. |

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill's 3.5 yards after catch and 1.75 yards per route run were both the lowest totals of his career.
Footballguys view: It's not the production we're used to from Hill. He was frustrated after the Dolphins got bounced from the playoffs in Week 18 and had some comments that made it seem like he was done in Miami. According to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, Hill had a good conversation with Dolphins GM Chris Grier and HC Mike McDaniel. Things seem to have been smoothed over. |

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill is 'committed' to the Dolphins after an 'excellent meeting' with general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel, according to his agent on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Footballguys view: Hill was emotional after the Dolphins were bounced from playoff contention. He may have patched things up, but one thing is clear - Miami needs to start pushing further than they have before. |

Free-agent WR Tarik Black, LB William Bradley-King, S Jordan Colbert, DT Neil Farrell, OT Ryan Hayes, OG Chasen Hines, LB Dequan Jackson, CB Isaiah Johnson, CB Jason Maitre, OT Bayron Matos, LB Derrick McLendon and TE Hayden Rucci signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, Jan. 7. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyIn the two days since publicly declaring that he wants out of Miami, Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill has said nothing more. Hill's status came up at the outset of an end-of-season press conference with G.M. Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel on Tuesday. Grier said that, on Monday, he and McDaniel had "productive conversations" with Hill.
Footballguys view: Grier declined to share the details of the conversation, but the GM said that Hill did not request a trade "with me." McDaniel noted that Hill was told removing himself from the game would "not be tolerated" in the future and that he "embraced accountability." McDaniel added that, during the hour-long meeting, they "cleared the air in a rough and tumultuous situation." Still, as PFT's Mike Florio points out, it was presumably after the meeting that Hill changed his Twitter avatar to a photo of his face on former Buccaneers receiver Antonio Brown's body, when Brown removed his shoulder pads and jersey and left the field in a late-season game against the Jets. Hill's silence beyond that is noteworthy. However it plays out, it looks like the Dolphins plan to try their best to keep their best player in the fold. Whether that happens remains to be seen. |

Miami Dolphins WR Malik Washington hauled in four of his five targets for 48 yards in Week 18 versus the New York Jets.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier will each be retained, according to a statement from team owner Stephen M. Ross on Sunday, Jan. 5. The team finished 8-9, their first year under .500 and outside of the playoff since McDaniel was hired.
Link to storyTyreek Hill sounded like a player fed up with the Miami Dolphins after the team's 30-18 loss to the New York Jets in Week 18. "This is the first time I haven't been in the playoffs," Hill told reporters in the locker room. "I just gotta do what's best for me and my family. If that's here or wherever the case may be, I'm gonna open that door for myself. I'm opening the door. I'm out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, bro, I got to do what's best for my career. I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there."
Footballguys view: Hill, 30, dealt with a wrist problem for the entire season after suffering an injury in August and opting against surgery to correct the issue. While he was questionable five times, the receiver played in all 17 games and finished the year with 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns. Against the Jets, Hill caught only two passes for 20 yards and told reporters he was pulled from the game by coaches. Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters he wouldn't put too much weight on secondhand postgame disappointment statements. "We will see how next couple days progress in convos with him and I," McDaniel added. Before the 2024 season, Hill received a reworked contract from the Dolphins that has him set to stay with the franchise through 2026. He's due to count $27.7 million against the team's salary cap next year, but releasing the receiver would cause that number to balloon to an even higher amount of dead money. |

Head coach Mike McDaniel said in the aftermath of Sunday's season-ending loss to the Jets that his "full expectation" is he and General Manager Chris Grier will be back for 2025. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has now issued a statement confirming that McDaniel was right. "As we now look towards 2025, our football operation will continue to be led by Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel with my full support," Ross said.
Footballguys view: Ross added he'd like to thank the players and coaches for their hard work, as well as the fans for their support. "As the owner of this team, I am ultimately accountable for our successes and failures," Ross said. "We fell short of our expectations this season, and I understand and share in the frustration in our performance on the field." While Miami made the postseason in each of McDaniel's first two seasons as coach, the club finished 8-9 in 2024. The Dolphins have been to the playoffs just four times since ending a string of postseason appearances in 2001 â€" 2008, 2016, 2022, and 2023. The club has not won a playoff game since the 2000 season. Beyond that, the Dolphins were second in the league in scoring during the 2023 season, but they slipped to 22nd this year, and turning that back around will be an essential part of the offseason work in Miami. |
