Broncos | Bo Nix underwent undisclosed procedure Wed Feb 26, 09:29 AM
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (undisclosed) is working out at the team facility after an undisclosed procedure earlier this offseason, general manager George Paton said Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Footballguys view: It is not related to the fractures in his back suffered during the NFL season. Head coach Sean Payton previously said Nix was dealing with turf toe, but it's unclear if that is related to the procedure. |

Nick Kosmider, from The Athletic, reports that Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton may not intend to play the final year of his contract as currently constructed.
Footballguys view: Sutton wanted more money last year, but the Broncos did not comply. They did give him more incentives on his contract in 2024, and Sutton reached all the numbers he needed to. Set to make $20 million in 2025 (with around $13 million in dead money), Sutton has no years remaining on his deal. |

At the Super Bowl on the 'Up and Adams Show' Denver Broncos HC Sean Payton says the team needs to find their 'joker' this offseason. He's looking for elite receivers who play running back or tight end.
Footballguys view: The Broncos did use WR Marvin Mims as their joker at times last year, and he was able to make big plays for them at times. However, a tight end or running back is the true joker in Payton's system. We believe the Broncos will be adding two tight ends and two running backs this offseason - perhaps with all four coming from the NFL Draft. Good news for the Broncos is that this draft class is incredibly deep at both positions. |

Link to storyDenver Broncos QB Bo Nix (back) said he suffered three transverse process fractures in his back during a game in November but was able to continue playing despite the injury.
Footballguys view: It was evident during the Nov. 24 win over the Raiders that Nix was in some pain as he winced after being slammed on his back by Maxx Crosby. Nix, though, played all 68 snaps of that game despite saying Monday the injury happened earlier in the game, with Crosby's hit adding to the pain. Nix played five more regular-season games and the playoff loss to Buffalo after he broke his back. Yet, he finished with 3,775 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes while rushing for four more touchdowns and catching a touchdown. He finished the season as QB8. He'll be on the QB1 radar in drafts this summer. |

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix went 13-for-22 for 144 yards and one touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card playoff game. He also rushed for 43 yards on four carries during the game. RB Javonte Williams rushed for 29 yards on seven carries and caught two passes for 14 yards. WR Courtland Sutton was the leading receiver for the Broncos with five receptions for 75 yards on nine targets. WR Troy Franklin caught two passes for 54 yards and one touchdown on three targets during the game, while WR Marvin Mims caught two passes for 12 yards on four targets.
Footballguys view: The Broncos scored on their fifth play from scrimmage on a long touchdown to Troy Franklin and then stalled out for most of the rest of the game, with a short burst of life that ended with a doinked field goal attempt at the end of the first half. The running game was non-existent this year, but Bo Nix is giving the team something to work with a quarterback, Courtland Sutton regained true #1 form with better quarterback play, and Marvin Mims emerged as a big play threat late in the season. The Broncos offense should be improved next year and the team exceeded expectations this season. |

Link to storyDenver Broncos WR Marvin Mims recorded 11 catches for 69 yards and no touchdowns over the first 10 games compared to 28 catches for 434 yards and six touchdowns over the final seven games.
Footballguys view: Mims is the 'joker' for Sean Payton. That position is usually reserved for a running back or tight end, but Payton found a way to make it work with Mims. His speed is blinding, and the Broncos are finding ways to get him the ball in space. Mims will be a key for the Broncos as they are underdogs against the Bills in the Wild Card Round. |
Denver Broncos OT Frank Crum (illness) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 8. CB Damarri Mathis (back) and OG Ben Powers (non-injury) were limited during practice. TE Nate Adkins (abdomen) and RB Tyler Badie (back) fully participate in practice.
Link to storyDenver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton recorded 13 catches on go routes - tied for most in the league - for 304 yards (eighth) and five touchdowns (tied for fourth) during the 2024 regular season, according to Next Gen Stats.
Footballguys view: Sutton benefited greatly from the arrival of rookie QB Bo Nix, and the Nix-to-Sutton connection has been a big reason for the Broncos' 2024 success. On the season, Sutton has a career-high 81 receptions on 135 targets for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. Sutton, who was drafted as WR46 with the 98th pick overall, obviously exceeded that 8th round Average Draft Position. He finished the year as WR11 with an average of 14.4 points per game. Expect to pay up in this year's drafts. |

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix didn't throw an incomplete pass in Sunday's win over the Chiefs until his final toss of the first half, going 18 of his first 19 passes, as Denver got up early and coasted into the postseason tournament. Nix was surgical, slicing up Steve Spagunolo's defense, which sat key players on every level, for 321 yards and four TD tosses on 26-of-29 passing for a 152.4 passer rating before sitting in favor of Jarrett Stidham in the fourth quarter of the blowout.
Footballguys view: The Broncos had as many touchdowns as the Chiefs had first downs through two quarters. Nix led three consecutive scoring drives to open the game -- if not for a wayward ball on his final pass of the half, it would have been four straight TD drives. The rookie peppered the Chiefs underneath and hit several deep shots when the Chiefs crept up, nailing a pass to Courtland Sutton for 47 yards and two 32-yarders. The game was effectively over after two drives, with Nix carving up the defense and Vance Joseph's defense smothering Carson Wentz. The party was on for the final three quarters of the shutout, and fantasy managers invested in Nix and celebrated with the Broncos. |

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton needs 82 receiving yards in Week 18 to cash a $500,000 incentive in his contract.
Footballguys view: After multiple moments when it seemed like Sutton could or should be dealt, the marriage has found a new height with him settling into the #1 receiver role with Bo Nix. Sutton should go a lot higher in 2025 fantasy drafts than he did last year. |
