Packers | Josh Jacobs says GB needs No. 1 receiver    Sat Feb 8, 01:19 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs said he believes the team needs to add a proven No. 1 wide receiver this offseason.

Footballguys view: Some want to make this statement more than it is; a mere statement of truth...and the truth isn't meant to make you feel good. The Packers don't have a true no.1 receiver and instead have spread the ball around in their passing game. How's that working out? Getting a stud, clear-cut no.1 receiver that QB Jordan Love could lean on could change the dynamics of this offense. Jacobs was not being disrespectful to any of his teammates, he was merely stating fact.

Packers | Special Teams Coordinator Rich Bisaccia Extended    Tue Jan 28, 12:39 AM

The Packers signed assistant head coach / special teams Rich Bisaccia to an extension, sources told Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel staffer Tom Silverstein.

Footballguys view: League sources told Silverstein there were rumblings that Bisaccia might retire, but the new deal assures he'll return as special teams coordinator and head coach Matt LaFleur's game management adviser. According to Silverstein, Bisaccia, one of the highest-paid special teams coordinators in the NFL, had one year remaining on his contract. It is believed another year was added, guaranteeing that Bisaccia, 64, would have plenty of incentive to stick around at least two more years.

Packers | Christian Watson unlikely to begin 2025 on time    Tue Jan 21, 02:23 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson (knee) is not likely to be recovered from his torn anterior cruciate ligament by the time the 2025 season starts, according to ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky.

Footballguys view: The Packers opted not to add any receivers last offseason, hoping Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks would continue to develop along with QB Jordan Love. With the group failing to take the next step and Watson expected to miss a chunk of time, the Packers could target the position early in the NFL Draft. GM Brian Gutekunst is open to adding to the position, whether it's through the draft, a trade, or free agency, saying, "[If] that makes some sense for us, we'll certainly look to do that, but we're also looking for these guys to continue to grow and hopefully grow into that space."

Packers | Josh Jacobs productive after contact    Tue Jan 21, 12:42 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs recorded 737 rushing yards after contact during the 2024 regular season. He also recorded 35 broken tackles during the season.

Footballguys view: In his first season in Green Bay, Jacobs ran for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries and caught 36 passes for 342 yards and one touchdown. The 15 rushing touchdowns were a career-high for Jacobs, and his receiving TD was the first of his career. The former Raider finished the season as RB5 (through Week 17) with an average of 18 fantasy points per game. He'll be in the RB1 conversation again next year, with Footballguy Dave Kluge advising readers that a talented back with ideal usage on a good offense shouldn't slip any lower than the top half of Round 2 in drafts this year.

Packers | Christian Watson's injury to linger into 2025    Sat Jan 18, 11:53 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson (knee) is the only player on the roster who will have a preexisting injury linger into the 2025 season, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Footballguys view: Watson suffered a knee injury (again) late in the season. The Week 18 injury is reported as an ACL injury, but there are rumblings that the extent of the damage is greater. If Watson recovers at a fast pace, he could be ready near the middle of the 2025 season. Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks will do more if/when Watson is out in training camp, the preseason, and the start of the regular season.

Packers | Tom Clements calling it a career    Tue Jan 14, 01:01 PM

Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements announced his retirement on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: Clements, 71, previously came out of retirement to rejoin the Packers in 2022 after spending 2019-2020 with the Cardinals. He first joined the team in 2006 as QBs coach under Mike McCarthy, coaching Brett Favre for his last two years with the franchise. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2012 before serving as assistant head coach from 2015-2016. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said there are "potentially" in-house candidates for quarterbacks coach, but "we'll see what happens."

Packers | No surgery for Jayden Reed    Tue Jan 14, 12:33 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (shoulder) said he will not need to undergo surgery on the shoulder injury he suffered during the Wild Card playoff game.

Footballguys view: It was reported that Reed had dislocated the shoulder after recording four catches for 46 yards and ran for 26 yards on two punt returns. It is a positive sign that he will not need surgery. This means that Reed will likely be fully healthy for the OTAs and training camp in the summer. After an excellent start to the season, Reed had three games of over 100 yards in the first half. His numbers took a dive in the second half of the season before finishing with 857 yards and six touchdowns in 17 games. Reed finished the season as WR29.

Packers | Jayden Reed suffers dislocated shoulder    Mon Jan 13, 12:25 AM

Updating an earlier report, Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (shoulder) dislocated his shoulder against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Jan. 12, and did not return to the game. The Packers were eliminated, however, so Reed will have plenty of time to heal up.

Footballguys view: We'll be watching to see if Reed has to have surgery for any damage caused by the injury. A dislocated shoulder means that the upper arm bone came out of the shoulder joint, so there could be considerable ligament repairs needed.

Packers | Another concussion for Romeo Doubs    Mon Jan 13, 12:12 AM

Updating an earlier report, Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs (concussion) suffered a concussion during the team's Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It was his second of the season, having had one on Sunday, Nov. 24, against the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: The amount of concern shown by his teammates was considerable, so we'll hopefully breath a sigh of relief when Doubs is ready and participating in offseason activities. We won't consider that a given though, until we see it reported later this year.

Packers | Green Bay eliminated in wild-card round    Sun Jan 12, 07:50 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love completed 20-of-33 passes for 212 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions while running for 10 yards in the NFC wild-card game loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. RB Josh Jacobs rushed 18 times for 81 yards and a touchdown, while adding three receptions for 40 yards. WR Jayden Reed, who left with a shoulder injury, ended up with a team-high 46 yards on four targets, and Jacobs was second-best with 40 receiving yards. WR Dontayvion Wicks finished with 39 yards on two grabs with six targets, and TE Tucker Kraft absorbed all five of his targets for 26 yards. WR Romeo Doubs, who checked out early due to a possible concussion, ended up with 13 yards on two receptions. LB Quay Walker gutted his way through the way, finishing with a team-high four solo tackles with eight total stops.

Footballguys view: Love didn't play nearly as well as he did last year in the postseason, but he was without Christian Watson coming in, and lost Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs during the game. Josh Jacobs, on the other hand, rose to the occasion, and had the play of the day to set up his one-yard touchdown run, the only on the day for the team. Jacobs ended up being a big addition, but the passing game didn't live up to higher expectations after a promising 2023. Jordan Love and the Packers passcatchers will be going a lot lower in fantasy drafts this year.

Packers | Jayden Reed helped to medical tent    Sun Jan 12, 06:54 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (shoulder) left the NFC wild-card game against the Philadelphia Eagles late in the third quarter after a hard hit to the shoulder or collarbone area. He was helped off while holding his right arm, and he went immediately to the blue medical tent. He is questionable to return.

Footballguys view: The loss of Reed and Romeo Doubs just compounded the losses after the team saw Christian Watson go down last week with a torn ACL. The Packers passing game is in shambles heading into the offseason, but everyone is young and still on the upslope development side of their career arcs.

Packers | Romeo Doubs exits with apparent head injury    Sun Jan 12, 06:35 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs (head) suffered an apparent head or neck injury in the third quarter of the NFC wild-card game against the Philadelphia Eagles while attempting to make a touchdown reception in the end zone. He went up for the catch, came down awkwardly and banged his head hard on the turf. The team said he is being evaluated for concussion.

Footballguys view: Doubs injury caused his teammates to kneel around him and appeared to be very concerning. He suffered a concussion back in Week 12 and missed two weeks. Because of that, he was wearing a guardian cap, which didn't appear to lessen the force that the back of his head hit the ground.

Packers | Sean Clifford promoted    Sat Jan 11, 02:13 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Sean Clifford was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Packers | Another full practice for Jordan Love    Fri Jan 10, 02:43 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love (elbow) practiced in full for a second straight day on Friday, Jan. 10.

Footballguys view: Love should be good to go Sunday, but he'll be without Christian Watson, who was the key to the Packers passing game success when they faced a lot of man coverage. That should not be lost on Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Love was very good in the postseason last year and will try to resume that story after sometimes bumpy ride this season.

Packers | LaFleur Confirms Christian Watson Tore His ACL    Tue Jan 7, 12:28 AM

Packers receiver Christian Watson sustained a season-ending torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears, coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Monday. "Yeah, it's not good," LaFleur said. "He'll be out for this season or the rest of the year."

Footballguys view: Watson was coming off a bruised left knee that forced him to miss the previous week's game at Minnesota. It's unclear whether that had any impact on the injury to his right knee. The injury came on a noncontact play in which the ball went to Dontayvion Wicks across the field. Watson needed help getting off the field and was carted to the locker room. Watson, a third-year pro who played in all but two games this season, led the Packers with a 21.4-yard average per catch. He caught 29 passes for 620 yards and two touchdowns and was the team's best deep-threat receiver. The timing of his injury not only wiped him out of the playoffs, which the Packers begin Sunday at Philadelphia, but also means he's likely to miss a large portion of next season when he will be in the final year of his rookie contract.
