Chiefs | Xavier Worthy Should Be Good To Go For Training Camp Tue Jun 18, 04:32 PM
Rookie WR Xavier Worthy did not practice for much of the offseason because of a sore hamstring so the Chiefs didn't get an extensive look at him. The Chiefs said they were being cautious and that barring a setback he should be good to go at training camp.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher, Worthy had an up-and-down performance at the team's rookie camp shortly after he was drafted. He dropped some passes the first day but responded with some big plays at the next practice. As Footballguy Jason Wood put it this week, "Worthy has the requisite skill set to give Patrick Mahomes II a legitimate outside star again, something the team has longed for since letting Tyreek Hill walk." Still, Worthy is getting WR3 treatment on Underdog, just two spots after teammate Marquise Brown. That price is going to be worth watching. |
Chiefs | Marquise Brown not wasting time Sat Jun 15, 09:59 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquise Brown earned praise from QB Patrick Mahomes during minicamp. 'I thought Hollywood did a great job coming in and being prepared and learning really fast,' Mahomes said.
Footballguys view: Brown broke out in 2021 with the Ravens but never made the hoped-for impact after he was traded to Arizona. But things are looking up in Kansas City. Insider Nick Athan from ChiefsBlitz.com told us earlier today that Brown has been "a perfect fit" since signing with the team in March. Athan characterized Brown as the team's No. 1 receiver, ahead of Rashee Rice and rookie Xavier Worthy. He's being drafted as such, with a WR33 Average Draft Position on Underdog. We rank Brown as WR40, ahead of Rice (WR42) and Worthy (WR43). However, Brown could move further ahead as we gain clarity on possible discipline for Rice's recent off-field issues. |
Chiefs | Matt Araiza in line to start Sat Jun 15, 02:18 PM
Kansas City Chiefs P Matt Araiza is in line to start in 2024 after the team cut its only other punter on the roster on Thursday, June 13.
Link to storyChiefs | Xavier Worthy still unable to practice Sat Jun 15, 12:22 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (hamstring) remained sidelined by a sore hamstring during minicamp.
Footballguys view: We shouldn't move Worthy down on redraft boards based on this news - his rookie uncertainty has already been priced in - but if he is still sidelined when camp opens or has a setback, we should move him down at least a few rounds and move Marquise Brown up a few. Brown could end up being a big value in 2024 drafts if Worthy isn't ready to play a big role in his rookie year. |
Chiefs | Joe Thuney should be ready for season Fri Jun 14, 11:56 AM
Kansas City Chiefs OG Joe Thuney's (pectoral) availability for training camp is uncertain at this point, but he is expected to be ready for the start of the 2024 season, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Footballguys view: Thuney is the anchor of the Chiefs offensive line. We'll monitor this, but not worry too much if he misses part of camp, since that appears to be within the range of expectations. |
Chiefs | KC to push ball downfield more Fri Jun 14, 10:53 AM
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said the team will push the ball downfield more in 2024. 'This is probably the most comfortable I think I've felt of just being able to not let something affect me,'' Mahomes said. 'When you go up against [Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in practice], you're not going to be right 100% of the time, and there's been times where I've lost on blitzes and Spags gets me with the new pressure that he's working on, and I think it's just being able to get the ball out of my hand, get it to the checkdown or wherever that is and then live to play another play.''
Footballguys view: The addition of Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy in the offseason should allow Mahomes to fulfill this promise. Worthy has missed OTAs with a hamstring injury, but is expected to be okay for camp. Brown has only averaged 13 games played a year in his five season career, but right now he is probably the better durability bet of the two new speed wideouts in best ball drafts. |

Free-agent DT Alex Gubner signed an undisclosed contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, June 13.

Link to storyChiefs | Travis Kelce intends to play through 2025 Tue Jun 11, 02:11 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce told reporters on Tuesday, June 11, that he 'really cannot put a timeframe on (retirement)' intends to 'keep going until the wheels fall off,' according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Kelce and the Chiefs agreed on a new deal this offseason that bumped up his compensation through the end of the 2025 season, so it seems likely we'll get at least two more years from one of the critical pieces of the Chiefs' three Super Bowl wins. The Footballguys staff has expectations. Kelce is our TE1, ahead of Detroit's Sam LaPorta, on the 2024 Draft Rankings. |
Chiefs | BJ Thompson update Fri Jun 7, 12:32 PM
Kansas City Chiefs DE B.J. Thompson is awake and responsive after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest, according to sources Friday, June 7.
Link to storyChiefs | B.J. Thompson stable Fri Jun 7, 09:57 AM
Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs DL B.J. Thompson (undisclosed) is in stable condition at an area hospital after having a seizure and going into cardiac arrest, sources said. Thompson's agent, Chris Turnage, told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that Thompson remained unconscious but that doctors are optimistic about his recovery.
Link to storyChiefs | Isiah Pacheco expanded his game Fri Jun 7, 12:44 AM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco logged 44 catches and 49 targets in 2023 after finishing with 13 catches on 14 targets as a rookie.
Footballguys view: Pacheco proved that he could be a better receiver in 2023, and we expect him to have a similar output as a receiver in 2024. Pushing for 1,000 yards rushing with around 45-50 receptions means Pacheco should produce like a low-end RB1 for Fantasy GMs. |
Chiefs | Mecole Hardman contract update Thu Jun 6, 06:56 PM
Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Mecole Hardman (Chiefs) signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, June 6, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Link to storyChiefs | KC cancels practice after medical scare Thu Jun 6, 12:46 PM
The Kansas City Chiefs canceled practice Thursday, June 6, after DL B.J. Thompson (seizure) suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during team meetings.
Link to storyChiefs | Mecole Hardman re-ups with Chiefs Thu Jun 6, 10:33 AM
Free-agent WR Mecole Hardman (Chiefs) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, June 6.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs bring Hardman back to play the same role. Hardman is a gadget player who can get a few touches here and there. The Chiefs' WR room needs clarity, but it would take a lot for Hardman to be tasked with a role that would make him fantasy-relevant. |
Chiefs | Xavier Worthy signs rookie deal Thu Jun 6, 12:33 AM
Kansas City Chiefs first-round draft choice WR Xavier Worthy signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs Wednesday, June 5, worth $13.79 million. The deal includes a fifth-year option.
Footballguys view: Worthy is one of the fastest players on the planet, and he could gather in deep shots from QB Patrick Mahomes regularly. He's a WR4 with Fantasy GMs at this time, but the rookie could be a low-end WR2 or flex play if he hits. |
Chiefs | Malik Herring staying put Thu May 30, 04:35 PM
Kansas City Chiefs exclusive rights free-agent DE Malik Herring signed a one-year tender on Thursday, May 30. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Louis Rees-Zammit is 'on pace' to be the team's primary kick returner this season, according to special teams coach Dave Toub on Thursday, May 30.
Link to storyChiefs | Xavier Worthy dealing with injury Wed May 22, 03:12 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (hamstring) did not participate in the voluntary workout Wednesday, May 22, because of a strained hamstring.
Footballguys view: Worthy is one of the fastest players on the planet, so a hamstring injury can really slow him down. These injuries can also linger if not given enough time to heal. We're certain the Chiefs will be cautious with their 2024 first-round pick. |
Chiefs | Kingsley Suamataia finalizes his rookie deal Tue May 21, 04:32 PM
Kansas City Chiefs second-round draft choice OT Kingsley Suamataia (Brigham Young) signed a four-year contract on Tuesday, May 21. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Link to storyChiefs | Rashee Rice likely to avoid assault charges Tue May 21, 03:40 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice was allegedly involved in an assault at a Dallas nightclub on May 6, but Dallas police shared news on Tuesday, May 21, that the injured person does not want to press charges and has signed an affidavit of non-prosecution.
Footballguys view: Rice is working with the Chiefs this week as they begin their offseason practices. He was arrested last month for his involvement in a March 30 six-car crash in Dallas that left at least seven people injured. He is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury, according to police. Even with the assault charge likely going away, Rice facing some form of league discipline for the accident still seems likely. |
Chiefs | Matt Dickerson returns to KC Mon May 20, 05:09 PM
Free-agent DE Matt Dickerson (Chiefs) signed with the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, May 20. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyChiefs | Rashee Rice present at OTAs Mon May 20, 12:44 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is present at OTAs and will participate in all activities despite legal issues stemming from the offseason, according to sources Monday, May 20.
Footballguys view: Rice had been limited to virtual meetings with the team during the early stages of their offseason program. He faces eight felony charges for his role in a March car crash in Dallas. Police in that city said that Rice is also under investigation for an alleged assault earlier this month. During the draft, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell indicated that the league would let the legal process play out before discussing possible discipline of Rice. The uncertainty has diminished Rice's value. Rookie Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown have moved ahead of the second-year man in our rankings and in Average Draft Position. |
Chiefs | La'Mical Perine gets the ax Sat May 18, 07:45 AM
Kansas City Chiefs RB La'Mical Perine was released on Friday, May 17.
Footballguys view: There just wasn't much room for Perine on the depth chart - even before minicmap and OTAs. The Chiefs have Isiah Pacheco as the lead back, and guys like Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Keontay Ingram (who will still hold out hope for in deep dynasty formats) will compete for reserve touches. Super sleeper Deneric Prince is there to possibly turn heads as well. The Chiefs are a dynasty, and they've got no shortage of talented backs. |
Chiefs | Kansas City staging two-man competition at LT Fri May 17, 04:48 PM
Kansas City Chiefs OT Wanya Morris and second-round draft choice OT Kingsley Suamataia (Brigham Young) are expected to battle in training camp for the starting left tackle job.
Link to storyChiefs | Kansas City signs multiple picks Thu May 16, 01:01 PM
Kansas City Chiefs fourth-round draft choice TE Jared Wiley, fourth-round draft choice S Jaden Hicks, fifth-round draft choice C Hunter Nourzad and seventh-round draft choice OG C.J. Hanson signed four-year contracts with the Chiefs Wednesday, May 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Wiley led all FBS tight ends in touchdown catches last year. He's not a dynamic weapon in the passing game, but he's imposing at the catch point and could be part of the succession plan for Travis Kelce. He should be rostered in tight end premium and deep dynasty leagues |
Chiefs | Kansas City signs Kamal Hadden Tue May 14, 06:27 PM
Kansas City Chiefs sixth-round draft choice CB Kamal Hadden signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs Tuesday, May 14, worth $4.158 million.

Kansas City Chiefs DT Matt Dickerson was released Monday, May 13.
Link to storyChiefs | Kansas City to meet with Zay Jones Thu May 9, 01:24 AM
Free-agent WR Zay Jones (Jaguars) is scheduled to visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, May 9, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: Jones is making his tour around the league, and a few teams have shown interest. The Chiefs would be a great landing spot for the veteran. They have a jam-packed room at the wide receiver position, but Rashee Rice could be facing league discipline thus opening an opportunity for others. |
Chiefs | KC adds Jaaron Hayek Tue May 7, 04:39 PM
Undrafted free-agent WR Jaaron Hayek (Villanova) signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs following a tryout at their rookie minicamp. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. WR Reggie Brown was waived to make room for him on the roster.
Link to storyChiefs | Reid: Xavier Worthy Is A Sharp Kid Tue May 7, 04:17 PM
There's a long time before the season begins, but the Chiefs got a good first impression of first-round pick Xavier Worthy during rookie minicamp. In his Monday press conference, head coach Andy Reid called Worthy a "sharp kid."
Footballguys view: Reid continued: "I thought he did a nice job picking things up and working through -- we asked him to do a whole lot of stuff there. He was put in most of the primary spots, so it was good for him to be able to get in there and move around a little bit." The key for Worthy and the rest of the rookies, Reid said, will be to successfully retain all they learned in rookie minicamp once they're with the veteran players. Meanwhile, fantasy managers in early best ball drafts on Underdog have already pushed Worthy's average draft position (ADP) into Round 5 -- ahead of Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice. Watch for that pricing to normalize as the excitement over the draft wanes. Until it does, buying the cheaper options isn't a bad idea. |
Chiefs | Kansas City adds multiple UDFAs Mon May 6, 09:39 PM
Undrafted free-agent CB Miles Battle (Utah), WR Reggie Brown (James Madison), OT Ethan Driskell (Marshall), LB Curtis Jacobs (Penn State), DT Fabien Lovett Sr. (Florida State), OT Griffin McDowell (Tennessee Chattanooga), OG McKade Mettauer (Oklahoma), P Ryan Rehkow (Brigham Young), CB Christian Roland-Wallace (Southern California), OG Nick Torres (Villanova) and LB Luquay Washington (Central Connecticut State) signed with the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, May 4. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyChiefs | Xavier Worthy studying DeSean Jackson Sun May 5, 09:49 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy said he has been studying retired WR DeSean Jackson to learn how to utilize his smaller frame and speed. 'Just his punt return and his ability to make a play after the catch,' Worthy said. 'How he understood the leverage for deep routes.'
Footballguys view: Worthy, who weighed in at the NFL Scouting Combine at 165 pounds and claims he came to rookie minicamp at 169, told local reporters he's unconcerned by playing with a lighter frame and has tried to take lessons from watching the similarly-sized Jackson. Jackson retired in 2023, having led the NFL on four separate occasions in yards per reception. Worthy, the combine record-holder with a 4.21 40-yard dash, will bring speed to an offense that could use it. As NFL.com notes, Patrick Mahomes' average depth of target was a career-low 7.2 in 2023. Free-agent addition Marquise Brown helps the Chiefs double down on speed in a suddenly rebuilt passing game, while reliable tight end Travis Kelce seems destined to keep dominating underneath. |

Link to storyChiefs | Jared Wiley to contribute early? Sat May 4, 12:41 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Jared Wiley's versatility was what intrigued the team the most, according to general manager Brett Veach, and Wiley believes he can help the offense in the red zone as a rookie. 'I'm really confident in myself, especially in the red zone,' Wiley said. 'I felt like that was a spot this past year where I really made my money, so to speak.
Footballguys view: Wiley is one of our favorite tight ends in this draft class. He's got wide receiver-like skills at the tight end position. The Chiefs have a big-time weapon who gets to learn behind Travis Kelce. We love Wiley in dynasty formats. |

Kansas City Chiefs exclusive rights free-agent LB Cole Christiansen had his tender offer withdrawn on Friday, May 3, and will instead become a free agent.

Link to storyChiefs | Kadarius Toney's option nixed Fri May 3, 10:56 AM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney's fifth-year option was declined Thursday, May 2.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Toney has physical talent but he's never played up to his potential in the pros. Injuries and inconsistency plague his game. That's why the Chiefs added veteran WR Marquise Brown this offseason and selected WR Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. At best, Toney is fourth on the depth chart in Kansas City. |
Chiefs | Updating on Travis Kelce's new deal Mon Apr 29, 05:56 PM
Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's new two-year contract worth $34.25 million will replace his current contract and is not an extension. He will be under contract through the 2025 season.
Link to storyChiefs | Andy Reid Compares Xavier Worthy To DeSean Jackson Mon Apr 29, 03:41 PM
Kansas City traded up to select wideout Xavier Worthy at No. 28 overall last Thursday after he set a scouting combine record with a 4.21 40-yard dash. While Worthy's speed invites comparisons to Tyreek Hill, HC Andy Reid brought up another one of his former speedy receivers when asked about the incoming rookie. "[Hill and Worthy are] different, and he'll put his own mark on things once he gets a feel for it," Reid said in his Thursday press conference. "That wasn't necessarily the comparison, as much as it was him being a good football player that was a good wide receiver. Now you add in there the return ability. I've had some guys like that Tyreek, DeSean Jackson -- probably body type a little more like DeSean."
Footballguys view: The Chiefs have won back-to-back Super Bowls after trading Hill during the 2022 offseason. But they have added a clear speed element back to their offense for 2024. First, the club signed receiver Marquise Brown to a one-year deal in free agency. They followed that up by selecting Worthy. The speedy duo should improve a receiving corps that struggled throughout the 2023 regular season. "Both of those two [Brown and Worthy] can run well. I think both love to play the game and are good football players. I think that that will help us," Reid said. It could also help fantasy managers looking to get more out of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the entire offense. |
Chiefs | Travis Kelce financials Mon Apr 29, 03:26 PM
Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce agreed to a two-year extension worth $34.24 million that will be added on to his current deal, according to sources Monday, April 29. He is signed through the 2027 season.
Link to storyChiefs | Travis Kelce extended Mon Apr 29, 02:19 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce agreed to a two-year contract extension making him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL, according to sources Monday, April 29.
Footballguys view: As NFL.com put it, "Kelce's career has been nothing if not remarkably consistent." The Cincinnati product racked up seven straight seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards from 2016-2022, falling just shy of making it eight straight campaigns in 2023 with 93 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns in a Chiefs offense that needed the entire regular season to find its footing before making another run to a Super Bowl triumph. With additional weaponry on the outside (in the form of speedy wideouts Marquise Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy), it might be more difficult for opposing defenses to focus their attention on the veteran tight end, who is currently being drafted as TE2 in early best-ball drafts behind Detroit's Sam LaPorta. |
