Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent OG Trey Smith could be a candidate for the franchise tag this offseason, in the opinion of Pro Football Focus' Mason Cameron.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 21 of his 32 passes for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. He was also sacked six times and lost a fumble. RB Kareem Hunt and RB Isiah Pacheco combined for 16 rushing yards on six carries, and WR Xavier Worthy finished with eight receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. TE Travis Kelce had four receptions for 39 yards, and WR DeAndre Hopkins had two grabs for 18 yards and a score. LB Drue Tranquill had a game-high 11 tackles and a sack.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs' quest for Super Bowl history never got off the ground. Philadelphia's swarming defense held Mahomes and the two-time defending champions to just 23 yards in the first half, and the Eagles led by 24 points at halftime before rolling on to the victory that kept the Chiefs from becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowl titles and delivered the second in Eagles history. |

Kansas City Chiefs WR Skyy Moore (abdomen) was limited in practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles. QB Patrick Mahomes (ankle), P Matt Araiza (illness) and OT Jawaan Taylor (knee) practiced in full on Friday, Feb. 7, and have been removed from the injury report.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs are as healthy as a team could hope to be going into the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes playing hurt was a big factor in his one Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay, but injuries - at least injury situations going into the game - will not be a factor in this one. |

Kansas City Chiefs WR Skyy Moore (abdomen) was limited during practice Thursday, Feb. 6. QB Patrick Mahomes (ankle), P Matt Araiza (illness) and OT Jawaan Taylor (knee) fully participated in practice.
Footballguys view: Mahomes is not 100 percent with this minor ankle injury, but he's going to be out there slinging it around on Super Sunday. He's facing a Vic Fangio defense that knows how to create pressure with only four rushers. While the Chiefs offense can live in the middle of the field with TE Travis Kelce, Fangio's squad can muddle things up for Mahomes and company. |

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) is making good progress in his recovery from knee surgery, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Footballguys view: Good news for Rice and the Chiefs here. He suffered a season-ending injury in Week 4 against the Chargers, and Rice has been on the road to recovery since then. We could see Rice back on the field at some point in training camp or the preseason. They'll need the help with DeAndre Hopkins, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman, and Marquise Brown are all scheduled to become free agents in 2025. |

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed on Tuesday, Feb. 4, that he will not retire after Super Bowl LIX and will return to coach the team for a 13th season in 2025.
Footballguys view: Sunday's NFL Championship tilt will be Reid's 45th career playoff game as a head coach, passing Bill Belichick (44) for the most playoff games by a head coach all-time. Reid (28) needs four wins to pass Belichick (31) for the most career playoff victories. The 66-year-old Reid remains several seasons behind Bruce Arians, who was 68 when he became the oldest Super Bowl champion coach -- Arians retired at 69. "Yeah, I don't think about that, but Bruce was a great coach," Reid said. "He was a good man, too. But you don't know. I'm enjoying what I'm doing." With the Raiders hiring 73-year-old Pete Carroll as their head coach, Reid is no longer the oldest NFL head coach. |
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce hinted that this may not be his last season Tuesday, Feb. 3. 'I've thought about it, but I still love what I do,' Kelce said. 'It's moments like these, weeks like these, the month that we just had in the playoffs that make me feel like I could play this game forever. I think I still got a lot of football left in me. I think this year has been one of the most special years of my life. I think it's gonna continue to make me want to do more in the football world. Where will I be in three years? Hopefully still playing football.'
Footballguys view: Kelce put up 823 yards, his worst total since his one-game rookie season in 2013, and had just three touchdowns in 16 games this season. Still, Kelce finished the year as TE5 with 12.7 points per game. Given the dearth of reliable producers at the position, expect him to be redrafted as a lower-end TE1 in 2025, assuming he makes good on his word and returns. |

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent OG Trey Smith is a player the Chiefs would like to re-sign this offseason, but it seems more likely he will join another team during free agency, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.

S Bryan Cook (quadriceps), QB Patrick Mahomes (ankle) and CB Jaylen Watson (ankle) fully participated in practice. The Chiefs did not hold a practice Thursday, so the injury report is an estimation.

On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs designated WR Skyy Moore (core) to return from injured reserve.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs S Bryan Cook (quadriceps), RB Kareem Hunt (quadriceps), QB Patrick Mahomes (ankle), OT Jawaan Taylor (knee) and CB Jaylen Watson (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 29. The Chiefs did not hold a practice Wednesday, so the practice report is an estimation.
Footballguys view: Mahomes remains on the report with his lingering ankle injury. The Chiefs have had him on the report every week since Week 16 after he sprained his right ankle against the Browns in a Dec. 15 game. He has remained a full participant since the start of the postseason. Mahomes is 34-of-51 for 422 yards and two touchdowns in two postseason games. He also has run for 57 yards and two touchdowns. That Hunt would have practiced fully had there been an actual session is also a positive. We'll follow up as needed but expect every player with a pulse to be available for next week's Super Bowl LIX against the Eagles. |

The Kansas City Chiefs topped the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game, advancing to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9. QB Patrick Mahomes completed 18-of-26 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, while running 11 times for 43 yards and two scores and a lost fumble. RB Kareem Hunt had 17 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown, while RB Isiah Pacheco ran five times for 12 yards with two receptions for 12 yards. WR Xavier Worthy added six receptions for a game-high 85 yards and a touchdown, while rushing twice for 16 yards. WR JuJu Smith-Schuster was good for two receptions and 60 yards, while WR Marquise Brown had three snags for 35 yards on five targets. TE Travis Kelce was fairly quiet with just two catches and 19 yards on four targets, while WR DeAndre Hopkins had a single 11-yard grab on two targets. CB Chamarri Conner and LB Drue Tranquill each had nine total tackles.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com noted, Mahomes had one of his better games of the season. He mostly threw quick passes and was much sharper with them than in the Divisional Round victory over the Texans. The Bills were effective in eliminating Mahomes as a runner when the teams met in the regular season in Week 11, holding him without a carry. But Mahomes' running was a significant factor in this game. He not only scored twice but converted on a run on fourth down in the second quarter, which kept a drive alive for the Chiefs that turned into their second touchdown. Meanwhile, a week after his big divisional game against the Texans, Kelce was quiet. Fortunately, the wideouts showed p. Now the Chiefs will have two weeks to prepare to take on the Eagles and attempt to deliver a "Three-Peat" in New Orleans. |

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman (knee) will finish the season on the Reserve/Injured list, head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs opened Hardman's 21-day window to practice a few weeks ago, and his knee was not able to respond in the way the team wanted. His season is now over regardless of how far the Chiefs advance. Hardman hits free agency looking for a gadget role and special teams resume. |

The Chiefs are coming up on the deadline to activate receiver/returner Mecole Hardman off of injured reserve. But head coach Andy Reid said in his Monday video conference that Kansas City hasn't decided whether or not Hardman will be brought back to the 53-man roster. "I haven't made any decisions on that yet, but he's worked hard to try and get himself back," Reid said. "We'll see how that all works out."
Footballguys view: Hardman was designated to return from IR during the last week of the regular season. Hardman was a limited participant in practice all last week. In 12 games this season, Hardman caught 12 passes for 90 yards and took five carries for 62 yards with a touchdown. He also averaged 10.2 yards per punt return and 26.4 yards on five kick returns. Last year, Hardman caught the walk-off, game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII. |

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes went 16-for-25 for 177 yards and one touchdown against the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round playoff game. He also rushed for 14 yards on seven carries during the game. RB Kareem Hunt rushed for 44 yards and one touchdown on eight carries, while RB Isiah Pacheco rushed for 18 yards on five carries. TE Travis Kelce caught seven passes for 117 yards and one touchdown on eight targets, WR Xavier Worthy caught five passes for 45 yards on six targets and WR DeAndre Hopkins was targeted one time during the game and finished with zero receptions.
Footballguys view: Mahomes was under duress for most of the game, but he was able to find Kelce in the end zone once. The Chiefs rested their starters in Week 18, so there might have been some rust for the entire team to shake off in this game. Going forward, the Chiefs will have to be sharper as they'll face either the Ravens or the Bills in the AFC Championship Game. |

Link to storyKansas City Chiefs OG Joe Thuney is expected to start at left tackle against the Houston Texans, according to sources Friday, Jan. 17.
Footballguys view: This is the best possible choice for a team that has gone through multiple options at a sore spot heading into a very tough matchup against Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter, the best defensive duo in the league. Thuney has been outstanding as a guard and viable as a tackle since signing a five-year, $80 million deal in 2021. |
