New York Jets WR Davante Adams would be open to signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers if he is released by the Jets this offseason, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: The Chargers could use a true alpha receiver to work opposite rising star Ladd McConkey, the Rams are preparing to trade Cooper Kupp, and the 49ers have given Deebo Samuel permission to seek a trade. In addition, Samuel's teammate, Brandin Aiyuk, is recovering from a torn ACL, and we don't yet have a timetable for his return. Adams' next stop will be of great interest. Stay tuned. |

New York Jets WR Davante Adams may be a cut candidate this offseason because of his salary cap number, and the team's decision not to bring QB Aaron Rodgers back, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Adams has an unworkable $35.6 million salary next season, so he's not returning to the Jets without that number getting at least cut in half, if not more. It looks like the Jets gave the Raiders a third round pick for nothing. Garrett Wilson should stay with the team now that they are confirmed to be moving on from Aaron Rodgers, and he'll be in line for as many targets as he can handle, albeit from Tyrod Taylor or a yet-to-be-acquired quarterback. The Rams, Chargers, and 49ers are all possibilities for Adams if he is released after he said he is intrigued by a move back to the west coast. |

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers recently met with the Jets front office and has been informed that they will not be bringing him back next season.
Footballguys view: This should be no surprise after Rodgers appeared to be a quarterback in decline in 2024, not to mention one that has a tendency to create off-field distractions. Tyrod Taylor is under contract at a very reasonable $6 million next season and the Jets could move up from #7 to take one of the top two quarterback prospects, but ownership has also seemed impatient about winning. Unfortunately, outside of maybe a healthier Kirk Cousins or unlikely reunion with Sam Darnold, a significant upgrade from Taylor is probably not out there to be had in the free agent market. |

The New York Jets have been in ongoing discussions with QB Aaron Rodgers regarding his future and a decision on whether he will return to the team next season could come as soon as this upcoming week, according to multiple sources.

New York Jets WR Davante Adams has not talked with the team since they have hired general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn.
Footballguys view: It is not known if Adams will be playing for the Jets next season. In fact, a lot of things about the 2025 Jets are unknown at this time. Will QB Aaron Rodgers be with the team? Would Adams follow Rodgers if he winds up elsewhere? Jeremey Fowler, from ESPN, reports Adams would be open, if released this offseason, to signing with the Rams, Chargers or 49ers. Stay tuned. |

Former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman announced on his podcast on Thursday, Feb. 6, that he accepted a senior football adviser position with the New York Jets. He made it clear during his announcement that his job will be to act as a 'sounding board' for the final decision-makers: new head coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey.
Link to storyNew York Jets DE Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) said he is expected to be ready for the start of OTAs, according to sources Wednesday, Feb. 5. Johnson suffered a torn Achilles in Week 2.
Link to storyDetroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand was hired by the New York Jets Friday, Jan. 31, as their new offensive coordinator.
Footballguys view: Engstrand follows new Jets HC Aaron Glenn to the Motor City to the Big Apple. There are so many question marks with the Jets, that's it difficult to imagine what kind of offense they'll have under Engstrand's guidance. First, they need to figure out who is going to be their quarterback in 2025 and beyond. Then, we'll have a better feel for what they could be up to. |
New York Jets impending free-agent CB D.J. Reed may look for more money than the Jets will be able to offer during free agency, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.

Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry was hired as the new linebackers coach for the New York Jets on Friday, Jan. 31.
Footballguys view: Curry was a sure thing as the #4 overall pick by the Seahawks in the 2009 draft, but only ended up playing in the league for four years. His coaching career has been more successful, as this job is a promotion from his job with the Steelers, giving him responsibility over both inside and outside linebackers. He had only been a position coach with the Steelers for one season. |

Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach/passing game coordinator Nick Caley informed the New York Jets he wasn't interested in their offensive coordinator post.
Footballguys view: Caley also isn't going to be the Bucs offensive coordinator. He was up for the job, but the team instead promoted pass game coordinator Josh Grizzard to the position. The Texans offensive coordinator job is still open and the Eagles job could open up after the Super Bowl if Kellen Moore takes the Saints head coach job, so those are still possibilities for Caley. Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand is the rumored leader for the job now in what would be a reunion with new Jets head coach and former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. |
Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has agreed to terms with the New York Jets to become their new defensive coordinator, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Jets new head coach Aaron Glenn gets a trusted and talented veteran coach. Wilks was last the defensive coordinator for the 49ers back in 2023, and he knows how to craft a swarming defense. Reports indicate Wilks will be calling plays on the defensive side of the ball. |
Denver Broncos special teams coordinator Chris Banjo was named to the same post with the New York Jets on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand is reportedly the frontrunner to fill the New York Jets' offensive coordinator vacancy, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: Engstrand has been a key member of the Lions staff since 2020 and spent the last two seasons as the passing game coordinator. Detroit's offense has taken off with Engstrand in the role, leading the NFL with 8,875 yards, ranking second with 69 touchdown passes and a 105.0 passer rating over the last two seasons. After being passed over as offensive coordinator (John Morton was hired to fill that role), it makes sense for Engstrand to pursue other options. Working with former Lions DC Aaron Glenn in New York is now on the top of that list. |
Former Tennessee Titans cornerbacks coach Chris Harris interviewed with the New York Jets for their defensive coordinator vacancy Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Footballguys view: The Titans announced earlier this week that Harris would not return and that former Jets assistant Tony Oden will fill his role on Brian CCallahan'sstaff. Harris has also spent time with the Commanders, Chargers, and Bears since retiring as a safety and moving into the coaching rank after the 2012 season. Incoming head coach Aaron Glenn revealed at a Monday press conference that he will not call the Jets' defensive plays, so whoever lands this job will handle that responsibility. |

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks will interview with the New York Jets for their defensive coordinator vacancy, according to sources Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Footballguys view: Wilks is getting some interest as a defensive coordinator with both the Falcons and Colts interviewing him as well. While those two teams filled their jobs with others, the Jets are now looking at the former 49ers DC. With Aaron Glenn as the new head coach, having a seasoned veteran like Wilks to run the defense would be a benefit. |
There already has been a lot of chatter about whether or not the Jets and Aaron Rodgers will continue their partnership into the 2025 season. The Jets now have hired Aaron Glenn as the team's head coach and Darren Mougey as the team's general manager. They will be tasked with speaking with Rodgers and charting a path forward. When will we find out more information, though? On Sunday, FOX insider Jay Glazer reported that he spoke to Glenn, and a decision could be coming "much sooner than later."
Footballguys view: Glenn told Glazer he doesn't "want to drag this out." Rodgers is under contract, and there may not be too many better options than him out there, at least for 2025. While this is the case, he hasn't announced if he will play in 2025, and also, does New York want him back? There have been rumors that Glenn and Rodgers could be open to continuing the partnership, but this doesn't mean it'll happen. We'll be watching closely. |

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers' future with the team is uncertain at this point, but head coach Aaron Glenn is believed to be open to having Rodgers return to the Jets in 2025.
Footballguys view: Rodgers could also be an option for Pete Carroll with the Raiders, if Las Vegas doesn't opt for a Russell Wilson reunion. Rodgers won't represent an appreciable bump for the fantasy fortunes of his 2025 team (if he has one) after looking like a quarterback in decline last year. |

Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey has agreed to terms with the New York Jets to become their new general manager, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Mougey just completed his second season as assistant GM in Denver. He has spent the last 12 seasons with the Broncos, first as a scout, then as the director of player personnel before getting the assistant GM job. As Profootballtalk.com suggested, the biggest offseason job for Mougey will be determining whether Aaron Rodgers remains as the team's quarterback, and if not who will succeed him. Rodgers' future will be one of the top storylines this offseason. We'll follow up as needed. |
Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach and passing game coordinator Nick Caley is reportedly the leading candidate to be named as the new offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: Picking someone who has been able to learn from Sean McVay isn't a bad strategy when you're hiring an offensive coordinator. Caley also worked under Josh McDaniels with the Patriots and got one ring as an offensive assistant. |
Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was officially hired by the New York Jets Wednesday, Jan. 22, to be their new head coach.
Link to storyAaron Glenn player page
Updating previous reports, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract to become the next head coach of the New York Jets on Wednesday, Jan. 22, according to sources.
Footballguys view: A former Jets CB, Glenn has worked his way up the coaching ranks for the past few years. During his time with the Saints (DB coach) and Lions (DC), Glenn showed the ability to lead men and craft a swarming defense. The Jets defense has some playmakers that Glenn will be able to work with, but their offense lacks talent and there's a huge question mark about who their quarterback will be. Finding the right OC (and the right passer) will be key for Glenn's success. |

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn reportedly received a 'substantial' offer following his second interview with the New York Jets and the head coaching job 'is his if he wants it,' according to a source.

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will have his second interview for the New York Jets' head coaching spot Tuesday, Jan. 21, and the Jets' goal is to keep him from leaving the building, according to sources.
Footballguys view: This will be Glenn's second interview with the Jets, having completed a virtual meeting with the team in the midst of the Lions' playoff run. He had interview requests from six of the seven teams with a head coach vacancy and has second interviews scheduled with the Jets and Saints, with Glenn set to visit New Orleans next if Tuesday's interview doesn't lead to a hiring. That said, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport contends that while the deal isn't done and there are still details to discuss, Glenn could be named the head coach by the end of the day if everything goes well. Stay tuned. |

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers had 39 of his passes dropped this season, which led the NFL in that category.
Footballguys view: Coming off Achilles surgery, Rodgers started every game for the Jets and passed for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. In addition to the dropped passes, Rodgers dealt with a change at head coach and offensive coordinator. It remains to be seen if Rodgers plays in 2025, and if he does, if it will be for the Jets. Appearing on Pat McAfee's show last week, Rodgers explained that he met with Jets owners Woody and Christopher Johnson about his future and that he knows it'll hinge on the hires they make. "It's gonna come down to the G.M. and coach any myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it's not in the cards," Rodgers said. We'll be watching for more on that. |

Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. completed his interview for head coach vacancy with the New York Jets on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Footballguys view: Whitt's stock continues to rise after his defense did enough to slow down the Lions juggernaut offense to pull off a huge upset Saturday. Whitt has never been a head coach at any level and this is his first year as a defensive coordinator after he was reunited with Dan Quinn, who he coached under in Dallas and Atlanta. |
New York Jets impending free-agent OT Morgan Moses said he plays to continue his playing career next season.
Link to storyNew York Jets impending free-agent TE Tyler Conklin may not return to the Jets next season since he could receive a bigger offer from another team during free agency, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.
Footballguys view: Conklin might have a larger-than-expected market for his services. He's gotten over 70 targets and caught over 50 passes each of the last four seasons. Conklin is your traditional "Y" tight end who can be on the field as a blocker and receiver. |

New York Jets WR Allen Lazard is a candidate to be released this offseason since he is scheduled to count $13.2 million against the salary cap next season, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.
Footballguys view: Lazard has a dead cap number of $6.5 million in 2025. As the team looks for a new quarterback, they might decide to get rid of all the guys that came in with Aaron Rodgers. On the market, Lazard may not be able to match the number he's set to make from the Jets in 2025. |
San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Brian Griese declined an interview with the New York Jets for their head coach vacancy, according to sources Friday, Jan. 17.

Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley will interview for the New York Jets head coaching position Friday, Jan. 17.
Footballguys view: Hafley was at the helm of the #1 defense in the league, and the Packers did not go home in the playoffs because of the defense. He's probably not going to get this job, but this is a sign of how he is viewed around the league. It would be a blow to the very improved Packers defense if Hafley gets the promotion. |
Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown will interview for the New York Jets head coaching position Friday, Jan. 17.
Footballguys view: McCown's was being bandied about as a potential head coach for the Texans in multiple hiring cycles. Many thought it was absurd that he would get interest despite having little to no coaching experience in the NFL, but the Texans appear to be ahead of the curve here, as McCown is going to at least become an offensive coordinator soon, if not in this hiring cycle. The Jets have been interviewing everyone they can and it's not an attractive job, so you never know, McCown could get a second interview and serious consideration. |

Free-agent WR Ontaria Wilson (CFL) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the New York Jets Thursday, Jan. 16. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith completed an interview with the New York Jets for their head coach vacancy, the team announced Thursday, Jan. 16.
Footballguys view: Smith has built solid offenses in every one of his recent stops (Titans, Falcons, Steelers), and the Jets need all the help they can get on that side of the ball. They are reportedly looking for a leader of men, and Smith has a strong reputation in that department. |
Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik will interview for the New York Jets head coaching position Thursday, Jan. 16.
Footballguys view: Slowik has been the Texans OC for the past two seasons, and the team has had significant success with QB CJ Stroud during that time. He's from the Shanahan tree, so if added by the Jets he'd bring zone-blocking concepts to the Big Apple. That would be great for guys like Breece Hall and Braelon Allen. |
Free-agent PK Anders Carlson and TE Neal Johnson signed Reserve/Future contracts with the New York Jets Tuesday, Jan. 14. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
