Packers | Christian Watson likely a PUP candidate    Mon May 19, 12:38 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson (knee) probably will start the 2025 regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of PackersWire's Mark Oldacres.

Footballguys view: Watson suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the 2024 regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears. The timing of the injury means that Watson isn't a lock to play in 2025. The Packers added Matthew Golden in the first round of April's NFL Draft and Savion Williams in the third round, bolstering their depth at the position. Given the first-round capital invested in Golden, Watson's future in Green Bay beyond 2025 -- the final year of his rookie deal -- might also become uncertain.

Panthers | Coach happy with Tetairoa McMillan     Sun May 18, 04:03 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan has been impressive during offseason workouts and has shown a very good work ethic, according to wide receivers coach Rob Moore. 'He works on his ability to finish, and try and be detailed. It's one of the hardest things for young players to really dial in on the details of every play. He was really dialed in,' Moore said.

Footballguys view: McMillan was arguably the best wide receiver in this draft class, and there's shades of Mike Evans to his game. His size/speed combination is going to help move the chains, and McMillan's consistency should make him a favorite target for QB Bryce Young early and often in 2025.

Rams | QB impressed with Davante Adams    Sun May 18, 03:36 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford said he has been working out with WR Davante Adams this offseason and that Adams fits right in with the team.

Footballguys view: Adams is a special player, and he can still be a big threat in his age-32 season. Stafford and Adams should be a fantasy force, so Adams still should post WR2 numbers for Fantasy GMs out there.

Bills | Elijah Moore excited about opportunity    Sat May 17, 04:03 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Elijah Moore said he is excited to play with QB Josh Allen because he has not played with a stable quarterback for most of his career.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft for the Jets, Moore was traded to the Browns in 2023. During his four pro seasons with those two teams, Moore has played with 10 different starting quarterbacks - so it's a huge chance for him to impress with one of the league's best now that he's with the Bills. Moore has stated he would be interested in returning kicks this year too as he tries to win a spot on the 53-man roster in Buffalo. He's competing for the no.3 spot on the depth chart behind Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir.

Chiefs | Jalen Royals could fill Rashee Rice-type role    Sat May 17, 11:09 AM

Kansas City Chiefs director of player personnel Ryne Nutt said that the organization views rookie WR Jalen Royals fulfilling a similar role in 2025 to the one filled by WR Rashee Rice (knee) last season. Nutt said that his run-after-catch ability is one of his strong suits but added that his route running is an area where he needs to continue developing.

Footballguys view: Royals was a fourth-round pick of the Chiefs coming out of Utah State in this year's draft. He's capable of taking short passes and turning them into long gains. Royals should be able to help move the chains, especially with QB Patrick Mahomes finding him on time and on target. The rookie has talent, but he's buried on the depth chart and likely competing for the no.4 spot with JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Packers | Assistant praises Dontayvion Wicks' development    Fri May 16, 02:46 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks has 'matured so much' over the last few months, according to passing game coordinator Jason Vrable.'I think early in (2024), he wanted the results so bad. He wanted to catch the ball and score. He was getting open, and then he would have a bad drop and everybody would be so upset over him and he'd be down on himself. I think he really learned to just handle one play at a time. It just happens to some guys. ... I think he's matured so much. And you saw at the end of the year when the ball was coming his way there was a real confidence toward the end to get open and make the play. And just do one play at a time. If you watched our practices, the speed that he's playing at, (offensive coordinator Luke) Getsy just came back here and was like, 'Man, this guy is so fast. And he's practicing so hard.' And you can see it. He's in Year 3, and he knows the system, he's playing with confidence and the energy's been awesome right now,' Vrable told the team's website earlier this week.

Footballguys view: We'll see what Wicks can do this season. The physical talent is there, but the Packers added another receiver in first-round pick Matthew Golden. When Christian Watson is healthy, the targets for Wicks will be even more limited. If you believe in the 2023 fifth-round pick, Wicks is cheap to pick up in dynasty formats.

Steelers | Pittsburgh checked on Chris Olave's availability    Fri May 16, 02:12 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave appears unlikely to be traded this offseason, but the Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly have made their interest known to the Saints in recent days, according to a source. Per Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com, the Saints do not seem interested in trading Olave.

Footballguys view: The Steelers are just checking in here. With their trade of George Pickens to the Cowboys earlier this month, they have DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson, and Calvin Austin as their top three wide receivers. The Saints have picked up the fifth-year option of Olave, and there might be a contract extension with him in the future.

Chargers | Ladd McConkey explosive from the slot    Thu May 15, 01:56 AM

Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey's 15 receptions of 20-plus yards ranked third among rookies and 18th in the NFL while having the third-lowest rate of vertical routes run last season.

Footballguys view: McConkey can take short passes and turn them into long gains. He changes direction quickly, and quickly became a favorite target of QB Justin Herbert. In the Wild Card loss to the Texans, McConkey set an NFL record with 197 yards (the most by a rookie in league history). In PPR formats, McConkey is a set-it-and-forget-it starter as a WR2.

Broncos | Devaughn Vele efficient as a rookie    Thu May 15, 01:35 AM

Denver Broncos WR Devaughn Vele had 52% of his targets go for first downs or touchdowns as a rookie last season, which was fourth in the NFL, per ESPN's Ben Solak. Following the selection of WR Pat Bryant in the third round, however, Solak believes that Vele will be competing with the rookie for the slot role in 2025.

Footballguys view: Vele reminded many in Broncos Country of a young Tim Patrick, and he played well as a rookie in 2024. He was a key cog for the passing game as Bo Nix went through his rookie season. This year in training camp, Vele is going to have to compete with Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin to establish a pecking order behind Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims.

Colts | Adonai Mitchell stuck in tertiary role?    Thu May 15, 01:03 AM

Indianapolis Colts WR Adonai Mitchell was primarily targeted on deep balls, finishing second in the NFL to New Orleans Saints WR Rashid Shaheed in average air yards per route run, and 40% of his targets came against man coverage. That's unlikely to change, in the opinion of ESPN's Ben Solak, who notes that Mitchell will 'probably' remain 'stuck' behind WRs Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs, as well as rookie TE Tyler Warren in terms of targets.

Footballguys view: Mitchell was a second-round pick for the Colts coming out of Texas in 2024. He's got a great size/speed combination, but the team doesn't have a refined passing attack and he's further down the pecking order - and primarily used as a deep target. Mitchell started six games as a rookie, catching 20 passes for 254 yards and zero touchdowns. Fantasy GMs will see him as only a 'what the heck' flex in deeper leagues unless injuries strike ahead of him on the depth chart.

Bears | Chemistry concerns for Rome Odunze?    Thu May 15, 12:34 AM

Chicago Bears WR Rome Odunze ranked sixth in the NFL in unrealized yards -- defined as air yards the player got via target but failed to convert into receiving yards -- in 2024, and ESPN's Ben Solak opines that he's 'more than a little worried about the severe lack of chemistry between [QB Caleb] Williams and Odunze.' Solak also adds that if Odunze isn't sharp running new head Ben Johnson's offense there are 'plenty' of options that could 'jump him on the depth chart.'

Footballguys view: Earlier this year, Bears assistant head coach Antwaan Randle El said the Bears can â€"get [Odunze] the ball in a lot of different ways.” New head coach Ben Johnson should be creative in the design of his offense when it comes to getting Odunze opportunities to make plays.

Dolphins | Tyreek Hill on track for camp    Wed May 14, 02:27 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill (wrist) is still expected to be ready for the start of training camp even though he underwent another procedure on his wrist to remove pins from the wrist, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Footballguys view: Hill had surgery in February to repair an injury he played through during the 2024 season. He had a second procedure earlier this month to remove screws from the wrist, a procedure that was part of his initial treatment plan. Word at the time of the initial surgery was that Hill would be ready to go for training camp, and there's no sign that anything has changed on that front. Hill is coming off a disappointing season, but he heads into 2025 as the WR13 on the Footballguys initial projections.

Vikings | Jordan Addison due in court next month    Tue May 13, 05:00 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison has a jury trial scheduled for June 16 in California in connection to his DUI citation in July of 2024, according to ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert. Per Seifert via online records, Addison participated in a pretrial conference hearing on Monday, May 12.

Footballguys view: Footballguys legal analyst Drew Davenport says this update doesn't necessarily add clarity. It specifies a date for the next hearing, but the type of hearing it is remains vague. Davenport believes we could be heading for another scheduling date, not the actual trial date. He explained, "The major takeaway is that if this thing is actually going to trial (I'm not sure that it is yet) we could be talking about a date that stretches into the season. That would affect the timing of any suspension and could ultimately also lead to it being pushed into the offseason again." So even though the concern for fantasy investors is the possibility Addison misses games this year, Davenport notes, "This case is moving, but we don't exactly know where yet. Settlement is still possible." Stay tuned. We'll continue watching for more.

Lions | OC believes Jameson Williams ready to break out    Tue May 13, 02:53 PM

Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams is primed to have 'a breakout year' in 2025, according to offensive coordinator John Morton.

Footballguys view: As SI.com suggested, the 2024 season can qualify as a breakout year for Williams in the eyes of many, as he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time and set numerous career-high totals. Still, Morton has been blown away with how well Williams has adapted to his style and the plan put in front of him. "When I first got here, he came in to see me," Morton said. "We had a chat, and this is how I'm painting the picture, what you need to do, and how I see it. He has been unbelievable. Unbelievable in the meetings, attention to detail. I'm excited to see him this year." The next step in Williams' development will be consistency. He had his share of big games last season, such as a 121-yard showing in last year's season-opener and his 143-yard performance in Chicago. Now, his development is centered around finding the sweet spot with consistency over the course of the 17-game NFL season. Williams' current Footballguys Projection, WR29, matches his Average Draft Position in early best-balls.

Patriots | Efton Chism could push for roster spot    Tue May 13, 01:02 AM

New England Patriots WR Efton Chism III could challenge for a spot on the team's 53-man roster, in the opinion of ESPN's Mike Reiss, who notes that the Patriots gave Chism, an undrafted free agent, a $25,000 signing bonus and guaranteed $234,000 of his base salary, which eclipsed the amount of guaranteed money that the team's seventh-round picks received. The rookie totaled 346 receptions in college and has drawn comparisons to current Seattle Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp, who preceded him at Eastern Washington.

Packers | GB still confident in Jayden Reed    Tue May 13, 12:17 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed's agent met with general manager Brian Gutekunst after the team selected two receivers during the 2025 NFL Draft, and Gutekunst said Reed will continue to be a top receiver for the Packers, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Reed, 25, is entering his third season after the Packers made him a second-round pick in 2023. He led the team in receptions and receiving yards in each of his first two seasons, totaling 119 catches for 1,650 yards and 14 touchdowns in that time. But consistent weekly production wasn't a strong suit. It'll be interesting to see how the pecking order plays out for this receiving corps, with Christian Watson likely to miss the bulk of the season. Golden's first-round draft capital suggests a significant role, while Williams is more of a versatile weapon along the lines of Reed.

Steelers | PIT optimistic about Calvin Austin III    Tue May 13, 12:16 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Calvin Austin is a player that the Steelers are high on at receiver, according to SI.com's Albert Breer.

Footballguys view: Breer advised readers that the Steelers think more highly of Austin than people realize and that he's a name to watch with George Pickens traded to Dallas. After emerging in 2024 with 36 receptions for 548 yards and four touchdowns, Austin appears ready to take on a larger role. But according to BVM Sports, Austin's strength lies in making big plays, often in the middle of the field, whereas Pickens was known for outside routes. Some question whether Austin is suited for heavy volume as a leading receiver. But Roman Wilson, Austin's primary competition for targets behind DK Metcalf, has limited experience with only five offensive snaps. We'll be watching for more on this situation in coming weeks.

49ers | Gabe Davis set to visit    Mon May 12, 05:08 PM

Free-agent WR Gabe Davis (Jaguars) is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers in the near future, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars officially released Davis with a failed physical designation after he tore his meniscus in November, but he is expected to be ready to go for Week 1. As Profootballtalk.com notes, the 26-year-old Davis was a 2020 fourth-round pick of the Bills who played four seasons in Buffalo before signing in Jacksonville last season. He was a solid member of the Bills' receiving corps for four years but had his least productive season with the Jaguars. Green Bay Packers WR Savion Williams already seems to have created quite an impression on offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, who told reporters on Monday, May 12, that there is 'a zillion different ways to use him in your offense.'

Footballguys view: Stenavich is going to be able to do quite a bit of things with Williams. They'll have to design touches for him, and they may be limited as things are crammed at the position in Green Bay. The Packers have 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Christian Watson (after he returns from a torn ACL).

Free-agent WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (Lions) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints on Monday, May 12. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: Peoples-Jones did not play football last year. In 2023, he split time between the Browns and the Lions where he started six games (five for the Browns, one for the Lions). He will compete for a roster spot behind the Saints top three receivers Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks, and Rashid Shaheed.

Broncos | Kyrese White inks deal with Denver    Mon May 12, 02:24 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Kyrese White (Utah State) signed an undisclosed contract with the Denver Broncos on Monday, May 12.

Footballguys view: White was impressive at Broncos rookie minicamp, and he's a quick receiver on underneath routes. Last year at Utah State, White had 44 receptions for 526 yards and three touchdowns. The Broncos receiver room is packed with talent, so White is likely bound for the practice squad if he continues to impress.

Chicago Bears WR Luther Burden III (undisclosed) participated in practice Sunday, May 11, after suffering what appeared to be an undisclosed injury during practice Saturday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Bears here. The undisclosed injury was not considered serious on Saturday, and here he is out there on Sunday. Burden is going to play the big slot role for Ben Johnson, something Amon-Ra St. Brown did to perfection under Johnson in the Lions' offense.

The former Lions OC and new Bears HC is going to have quite the group of weapons around QB Caleb Williams.

Raiders | Dont'e Thornton signs deal    Sat May 10, 05:11 PM

Las Vegas Raiders fourth-round draft choice WR Dont'e Thornton Jr. signed a four-year contract with the Raiders Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Raiders opened their rookie minicamp on Friday when Thornton went through his first official NFL practice. The 6-5, 205-pound Thornton, who clocked a 4.3-second 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine, led Tennessee with 661 yards and six touchdowns on just 26 receptions thanks to an FBS-best six catches of 50-plus yards. Thornton will likely be a project in Las Vegas, as the Raiders' coaching staff will have a development plan for the talented receiver. Thornton has flashed his potential but did so in limited playing time on the collegiate level.

Cowboys | Dallas checked in on Rashod Bateman    Sat May 10, 11:33 AM

Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman received trade interest from the Dallas Cowboys before the Cowboys acquired WR George Pickens, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports the Cowboys discussions with Baltimore went nowhere, forcing the Cowboys to pivot to another AFC team in Pittsburgh. The deal was made, the Steelers were weakened, and Baltimore hung onto an ever-improving player. In a 28-25 win over Dallas last September, Bateman had three catches for 28 yards (9.3 avg) and one touchdown. It was his most impactful regular season since getting drafted by Baltimore, with career highs in receiving yards (756) and touchdowns (nine) on the second-highest catch total of his career (45) across 17 games. Bateman is a solid fantasy WR4 or WR5 that's capable of helping investors cover bye week or injury-related absences.

Mickens and seventh-round draft choice CB Trikweze Bridges signed four-year contracts with the Chargers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Orande Gadsen II is a player with a freakish athletic skill set. He's a weapon as a tight end, and Gadsen can use a blend of size and speed to make plays. Gadsen will learn behind Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin in his rookie season, but he's got the upside to one day be a starter.

Washington Commanders fourth-round draft choice WR Jaylin Lane, sixth-round draft choice LB Kain Medrano and seventh=round draft choice RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt signed four-year contracts with the Commanders Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Lane is a player who can attack all three levels of the field with speed. He is buried on the depth chart right now, but Lane's speed and moves in the open field will be intriguing enough to earn him a roster spot where he can develop. Croskey-Merritt is one of our favorite sleeper running backs in this class. He's got a three-down skill set with intent as a runner and decent receiving chops. Watch Croskey-Merritt in crazy deep dynasty leagues.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Kyle Williams is a quick receiver with speed to flip the field on any catch. He'll have a chance to become a favorite target for QB Drake Maye this year. Williams begins his pro career as the no.3 receiver on the depth chart behind Stefon Diggs and DeMario Douglas.

Houston Texans third-round draft choice WR Jaylin Noel and seventh-round draft choice TE Luke Lachey signed four-year contracts with the Texans Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Noel is a hyper quick receiver who can get open in tight spaces. In addition to what he can do as a slot receiver, Noel should contribute on special teams as a returner. Lachey had a knee injury a few years ago at Iowa, and he would've been a higher draft pick if not for that injury. There's some TJ Hockenson to his game, but he's clearly got to stay healthy and prove himself as a late-round pick.

Footballguys view: Hawes is a player we will monitor in deep dynasty formats. A former high school linebacker, Hawes was mostly a blocker in college at Yale. He needs to develop as a route runner and we'll see if the Bills want to use him as more than a blocker. Prawther is an outside receiver with good ball skills, but he's not afraid to mix things up in the middle of the field.
