The team believes he can play within the next four games. Cooper Rush will get to start while Prescott is out. Fantasy GMs in superflex leagues can add Rush to their roster.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott out 6-8 weeks    Mon Sep 12, 08:15 AM

Updating earlier reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (thumb) will have surgery Monday, Sept. 12, to have a pin and plate inserted to stabilize the joint in his thumb. He'll miss six to eight weeks.

Footballguys view: The recovery timeline means the Cowboys are likely to soon place Prescott on Injured Reserve. With a bye in Week 9, Prescott could be available to return when the Cowboys play against the Packers in Week 10. Cooper Rush takes over at quarterback in the meantime, and Fantasy GMs should downgrade players like Ezekiel Elliott, CeeDee Lamb, and Dalton Schultz while Prescott is out.

Colts | Matt Ryan throws for 352 yards    Sun Sep 11, 06:16 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Ryan completed 32-of-50 passes for 352 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 1 against the Houston Texans in his team debut.

Footballguys view: In a familiar scene, Ryan wasn't always able to get it done in the red zone, and the team had to settle for a tie. He'll face a Jaguars defense that Carson Wentz lit up today, so perhaps things will get better for Ryan next week even though the Colts quarterback did have a solid fantasy day on the back of 50 attempt volume.

Commanders | Carson Wentz goes over 300 yards    Sun Sep 11, 05:48 PM

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz completed 27-of-41 passes for 313 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for 12 yards in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in his regular-season team debut.

Footballguys view: Wentz won a lot of fans in Washington with this performance, and he made a lot of Commanders offensive skill players viable against the last defense he faced as a Colt. The Lions just gave up 38 points and they are up next, so Wentz has a lot of appeal in superflex leagues, and could be worth a pickup in 1QB leagues.

Jaguars | Trevor Lawrence tosses TD in Week 1    Sun Sep 11, 05:35 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence completed 24-of-42 passes for 275 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing for four yards in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.

Footballguys view: Lawrence was slightly improved as a passer and his offense showed a lot more fight, but he's not a suitable QB1 in leagues that only start one, he doesn't look like a great QB2 in superflex/2QB leagues. He'll face the Colts next week.

Panthers | Baker Mayfield comes up short    Sun Sep 11, 05:28 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Baker Mayfield completed 16-of-27 passes for 235 yards, one touchdowns and one interception while rushing for another score in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, his former team.

Footballguys view: Mayfield almost led the improbable comeback with a 75-yard score to Robbie Anderson, but Jacoby Brissett and rookie kicker Cade York had other ideas. Mayfield doesn't seem to be a marked improvement over the quarterback play in Carolina in recent years. He'll face the Giants next week.

Bears | Justin Fields tosses pair of TDs    Sun Sep 11, 04:59 PM

Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields completed just 8-of-17 passes for 121 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, while adding 11 runs for 28 yards.

Footballguys view: Fields wasn't great as a runner or a passer, but he did complete two long bombs to Byron Pringle and Dante Pettis, and found Equanimeous St. Brown for the game clincher. He isn't startable in fantasy yet, but should be better next week at Green Bay as long as the game isn't played in a monsoon.

49ers | Trey Lance doesn't do much in Week 1    Sun Sep 11, 04:29 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance completed just 13-of-28 passes for 164 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears while running 13 times for a game-high 54 yards.

Footballguys view: Lance was a fantasy dud, and we might think twice about starting him until he makes us regret benching him. The conditions were terrible and it's not fair to judge Lance on this result, but it still moves the team closer to considering Jimmy Garoppolo because of the result. The Seahawks are up next week for San Francisco.

Patriots | Mac Jones throws for 213 yards    Sun Sep 11, 04:07 PM

New England Patriots QB Mac Jones went 21-for-30 for 213 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. He also lost a fumble during the game.

Footballguys view: Jones didn't test the Dolphins downfield very often and had mixed results at best when he did. He also suffered a back injury and should be considered questionable for next week at best, which means Brian Hoyer could be starting. This is going to be a tough offense to trust against good defenses, and the Patriots face a good defense in Pittsburgh next week.

Chiefs | Week 1 Kansas City Chiefs inactives    Sun Sep 11, 03:09 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have declared WR Daurice Fountain, DL Malik Herring, RB Ronald Jones, DE Joshua Kaindoh, QB Shane Buechele and OG Darian Kinnard inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Jones has no redraft value, and in dynasty leagues with any bench space concerns, he probably shouldn't be carried. Rookie Isaih Pacheco is the #3 back behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon.

Steelers | Mitchell Trubisky not on short leash as starter    Sun Sep 11, 12:51 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Mitchell Trubisky is expected to be given a long look as the team's starting quarterback, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He performed well during the preseason in an offensive system that appeared to suit his strengths and head coach Mike Tomlin doesn't want Trubisky to worry about being pulled from the game after having a bad series.

Footballguys view: This is bad news for redraft superflex teams that are hoping Kenny Pickett will be coming to help their quarterback depth. The Steelers defense has been outstanding today, and as long as they are competitive, the switch to Pickett is unlikely. Mike Tomlin has never handled a quarterback situation like this before, and it appears that he will be extremely conservative.

Browns | Week 1 Cleveland Browns inactives    Sun Sep 11, 11:42 AM

The Cleveland Browns have declared DE Isaiah Thomas, S Richard LeCounte III, OT Jack Conklin, QB Kellen Mond, OG Chris Hubbard, WR Mike Woods and RB D'Ernest Johnson inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: 2021 fourth round pick James Hudson will start at right tackle with Hubbard and Conklin out. This year's fifth round pick, Jerome Ford, is active over Johnson, who was a productive runner when called upon last year.

The San Francisco 49ers have declared OT Daniel Brunskill, WR Danny Gray, QB Brock Purdy, DE Jordan Willis, OT Nick Zakelj, TE George Kittle and RB Tyrion Davis-Price inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Kittle is inactive as expected. Gray had a good summer and was seen as a possible field stretcher, but the deep targets today should go mostly to camp MVP Brandon Aiyuk
