NFL | Tyler Warren not doing drills Wed Feb 26, 11:03 AM
Penn State TE Tyler Warren won't participate in drills at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Footballguys view: Warren is joining others like QB Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) and RB Ashton Jeanty (Boise State) in this decision. He's arguably the best tight end in this draft class, so Warren doesn't need drills to improve his already high draft stock. We could see Warren go off the board in the top-10 of the NFL Draft. He's strong, versatile, and the type of weapon who can attack a defense in multiple ways. Warren is not Brock Bowers (Raiders), but he's a playmaker. |
Updating a previous report, Miami (Fla.) QB Cam Ward remains undecided on whether he'll throw at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, who noted Ward is preparing as though he will participate in drills.
Footballguys view: Ward is arguably the top quarterback in this draft class. It's either him or Shedeur Sanders from Colorado, who has already chosen not to throw at the Combine. With these top prospects, it's not uncommon for them to wait for their Pro Day to perform in front of NFL scouts. |
University of Texas QB Quinn Ewers intends to throw at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, who added Ewers is fully recovered from an oblique injury suffered Sept. 7.
Footballguys view: Ewers is trying climb the draft board in the 2025 NFL draft. Currently seen as a mid-round pick, Ewers was considered to be a first-round prospect before the 2024 season. During his final year with the Longhorns, Ewers struggled with decision making under duress and accuracy in the short-to-intermediate range. Any team that drafts him will have to be the right fit for a passer who loves to attack downfield - and has the deep ball accuracy to do so. |
Retired NFL TE Rob Gronkowski (Buccaneers) will not come out of retirement, contrary to a recent report, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who replied on X.com with, 'Nope. Nonsense,' in response to the story on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

University of Michigan TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) is expected to be ready to participate in minicamp and fully cleared for training camp after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder on Jan. 29, according to the doctor who performed his surgery, Neal Elattrache.
Link to storyMiami (Fla.) TE Elijah Arroyo (knee) will not participate in on-field drills at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine because of a knee injury he suffered during the Senior Bowl, according to sources. He is expected to participate in drills at his Pro Day.
Footballguys view: Arroyo was a player who stood out earlier this year at the Reese's Senior Bowl. He's a raw prospect, but his athletic profile is intriguing for scouts. Arroyo can move like the wind, and he does a good job of moving the chains as a downfield target. His medical reports (knee) will be critical for his draft stock, but most see Arroyo as a Day 2 pick. |
East Carolina CB Shavon Revel Jr. (knee) is still recovering from a serious knee injury but is expected to be ready for the start of the 2025 season. He will not be medically cleared for team drills until training camp.
Link to storyPenn State DE Abdul Carter (shoulder) will not participate in on-field drills during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine because he is recovering from a shoulder injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He has been cleared to start training for his Pro Day.
Link to storyOle Miss QB Jaxson Dart, Alabama QB Jalen Milroe and Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard are expected to throw at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Footballguys view: Dart is a darling of some in the draftnik community. He's a toosly quarterback, but perhaps not quite a first-round pick. Milroe has incredible physical tools, but he's not polished as a passer - which likely makes him a Day 2 pick. Leonard has all the leadership qualities teams love, but he might end up as a Day 3 selection. All three have something to prove, and that's why they're throwing at the Combine. |
Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty will only participate in medical evaluations and team interviews at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, according to his agent. He'll wait until Boise State's Pro Day to do on-field drills.
Footballguys view: Jeanty is seen as the clear-cut best back in this draft class. He draws comparisons to Eagles RB Saquon Barkley, although has a bit of a different body type. Jeanty may be a top-5 pick in this draft when it comes to talent and potential impact, but with such a deep running back class there's a chance he falls past no.10 in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. |
Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders plans to only participate in team interviews during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine and will not participate in on-field drills. He does plan to throw at his Pro Day.
Footballguys view: There are four draftable receivers from Colorado that Sanders knows well. He's an advanced passer when it comes to accuracy and pass placement, so Sanders is likely to perform at a high level during his pro day. Teams need to interview Sanders more than they need to see him throw after over 900 passing attempts the last two seasons with the Buffaloes. |
Georgia LB Jalon Walker is 'a lock to go in the top 10' of the 2025 NFL Draft, according to Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network.

Former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia interviewed with Ohio State regarding their defensive coordinator vacancy on Monday, Feb. 10.
Link to storyMiami (Fla.) TE Elijah Arroyo 'is solidifying himself as a high Day 2 pick' in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Arroyo was impressive at the Senior Bowl earlier this year. He's a raw prospect, but coming out of Miami Arroyo has shown speed and playmaking ability. Like other Hurricanes tight ends before him (Jeremy Shockey, Jimmy Graham, David Njoku), Arroyo has the attention of the scouting community. |
Texas A&M DL Shemar Stewart 'stamped himself as the best player' at the Senior Bowl, an NFL personnel evaluator told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.

Link to storyFormer Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson has received interest from multiple teams regarding an opportunity to serve as their offensive coordinator in 2025, according to sources.
Link to storyMiami (Fla.) TE Elijah Arroyo showed good route running and blocking skills during Senor Bowl practices this week and could be a possible option in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, according to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah.
Footballguys view: The 2025 tight end class is strong, and Arroyo looks like one of the most athletic of the bunch. This won't be a great rookie draft for superflex leagues, but tight end premium league rookie picks should have added value because of players like Arroyo. |
Former Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was considered 'a top candidate' for the New England Patriots' offensive coordinator vacancy and has spoken with multiple teams around the league regarding a position on their staff, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: UCLA fired Bieniemy in early December, and he's looking to get back into the NFL. Bieniemy was the Chiefs' offensive coordinator from 2018-2022, and QB Patrick Mahomes has always had good things to say about him. Having a couple of Super Bowl rings with the Chiefs will always garner attention when there's an opening for an offensive coach in the NFL. |
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has no intention to coach in 2025 and will instead focus on the 2026 hiring cycle, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: The Saints are the only opening left, and Eagles OC Kellen Moore seems to be the frontrunner there. McCarthy has a sterling reputation in coaching circles, and he should be considered among the top candidates available in the 2026 hiring window. |
Ohio State University offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is reportedly considered a prime target for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator vacancies, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: Kelly has been fantasy football Miracle Gro in the past. He might not be that for the Bucs offense, which is already very good, but the Texans and Jaguars both could benefit from his ideas. |
Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka announced his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: Egbuka projects as a late first rounder in the 2025 NFL draft. He's a craft receiver who did a lot of his damage for the Buckeyes out of the slot. Egbuka knows how to get open with guile, and he's a slippery player after the catch. With receiver and returner upside, plenty of teams should have interest on the first day of the draft. |
Notre Dame S Xavier Watts announced his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday, Jan. 24.
Link to storyUniversity of Northern Illinois head coach Thomas Hammock has reportedly received some consideration to be as a running backs coach or run-game coordinator for at least three NFL teams, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Hammock was the Ravens running backs coach from 2014-2018 and he led Northern Illinois to a win over national runner-up Notre Dame for their first win over a top 10 team this year. He had a potential pro future as a running back after a strong three years at Northern Illinois, but had to retire from football as a player after a heart condition caused problems following the opening game of his senior season. |
Georgia RB Trevor Etienne declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Travis Etienne's little brother is probably a third day pick. A 2024 DUI will raise some character questions, and he missed two games with a rib injury. This is a strong draft at running back, but if Etienne lands in a spot with opportunity, he could make the Week 1 roster and get on the fantasy radar. |
Tennessee EDGE James Pearce Jr., arguably one of the best EDGE rushers in college football, declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Link to storyUniversity of Texas QB Quinn Ewers declared for the 2025 NFL Draft Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Footballguys view: Ewers enters the draft in what many see as an average (at best) quarterback class. He flashed plenty of potential with the Longhorns, but Ewers game lacked consistency. Ewers has a good-not-great arm, and he can be a rhythm passer who can work the underneath routes consistently. However, his game falls apart under pressure and his mechanics seem to go haywire at times. He's working to be a Day 2 pick, but some may consider him higher than that. |
Free-agent CB K'Waun Williams (Broncos) is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL in the next several weeks, according to a source on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Penn State TE Tyler Warren announced his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Footballguys view: Warren, who had one year of eligibility left, won the Mackey Award and was voted a first-team All-American for his work during the 2024 season. He had 104 catches for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns during the 2024 season, production that's likely to put him in the first-round conversation ahead of April's NFL Draft. |
New Orleans Saints RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook, Miami Dolphins WR Isaiah McKenzie, Seattle Seahawks OT Jason Peters, Atlanta Falcons LB Rashaan Evans, Dolphins QB Skylar Thompson and Tennessee Titans QB Trevor Siemian all became free agents Monday, Jan. 13, as their practice squad contracts expired. They are free to sign with anyone, which includes teams still in the playoffs.

University of Syracuse QB Kyle McCord announced his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday, Jan. 10.
Footballguys view: The Ohio State transfer projects as a mid-round pick and will be at the Shrine Bowl to try to enhance his stock. He broke the ACC record for passing yards in a season and finished 10th in Heisman voting this year. Keep him on your radar in superflex dynasty leagues. |
University of North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick is 'completely committed' to his new college coaching job and any reports of him considering a return to the NFL are a 'complete falsehood,' according to Tar Heels general manager Mike Lombardi on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Footballguys view: Is he committed, or does no NFL team want him? He was close with the Falcons last year, but reports suggest Arthur Blank didn't want to hire all of Belichick's disciples with him. As wild as it may seem for some, Belichick's days as a pro coach may be done. |
Free-agent CB Justin Bethel (Dolphins) announced his retirement from professional football Wednesday, Jan. 8.

University of Alabama QB Jalen Milroe announced his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Footballguys view: Milroe is an athletic runner who shows flashes of making pro reads as a passer. He can throw with anticipation, and Milroe can use his eyes to manipulate the defense. However, his skill is too inconsistent for him to be relied on as an early starter. Instead, Milroe should be drafted as a developmental prospect with a staff that understands how to use his legs while developing his skill with his arm. |
Former Raiders and Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden is expected to receive requests from 'multiple teams' for head coaching interviews this offseason, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: As things stand, there will be four open NFL head coaching positions entering the offseason, and, as SI.com's Liam McKeone noted, it wouldn't be surprising to see more open up as additional coaches are dismissed after disappointing 2024 campaigns. As with each cycle, a handful of popular candidates will be considered favorites for those positions. This year, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel lead the pack. Gruden is a surprising addition to the list. Still, Pelissero reported that multiple NFL teams are doing extensive research on Gruden and consider him a possibility for a coaching job this season. Pelissero also reported Gruden nearly got an offer to become the Saints offensive coordinator over the offseason. Gruden was most recently head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. He resigned in 2021 after it was revealed he used racist language in emails sent back in 2011. Since then, Gruden has become an online NFL content creator and recently joined Barstool Sports |
Mississippi QB Jaxson Dart announced on his personal Instagram page that he will be entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Dart is going to be an interesting late-round quarterback. We think he goes on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, but some team is going to get an intriguing dual-threat prospect. He's got a plus arm and plus athleticism to attack defenses as both a passer and a runner. Dart, a USC transfer, developed against better defenses during his time at Ole Miss. It's not a great quarterback class, but Dart is worth taking a late-round flier on. |
Georgia QB Carson Beck announced on his personal Instagram page that he will be entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Beck's draft stock is not as high as it used to be, but we should see him go off the board in the mid-rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. He's got some Kenny Pickett to his game, which is both a good and a bad thing. Beck is a system quarterback with good-not-great arm strength. We like his prototypical size and the way he can distribute the ball in the short-to-intermediate range. Pressure gets to him, and Beck seems not to trust his eyes as much as he should when going downfield. |
Free-agent S Roderic Teamer (Saints) had his suspension lifted on Tuesday, Dec. 24.
