Browns | Deshaun Watson ahead of schedule Wed Jun 19, 03:25 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson (shoulder) is ahead of schedule in terms of his recovery from shoulder surgery, according to general manager Andrew Berry.
Footballguys view: Watson hasn't been the same since joining the Browns. The team hired Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator in part to help Watson find his game. Fantasy players don't seem sold on a bounceback, with Watson falling to the late rounds of early drafts. If he can play the way he did with the Texans, Watson will be a huge value in fantasy football this year. |
NFL | Connor Williams receiving interest Wed Jun 19, 03:25 PM
Free-agent C Connor Williams (knee) is receiving interest from several teams and expects to be ready to play once the regular season begins. He plans to sign with a team before the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: The Eagles, Jets, Chargers, Bears, and Giants are all possible landing spots for Williams, who is a solid starter that can upgrade unit with questions on the interior offensive line. A return to the Dolphins isn't out of the question. Williams is one of the more consequential free agents left on the market. |
49ers | SF wants to keep Brandon Aiyuk Wed Jun 19, 03:11 PM
San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk is a player the 49ers wants to sign to an extension but are not willing to match his asking price at this point, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The negotiations are not believed to be dead at this point.
Footballguys view: We're probably talking about the difference between something like 26 and 28 million per year. Aiyuk's camp is going to push for the most they think they can get in an ever-rising wide receiver salary scale, while the 49ers are going to be measured and pay Aiyuk what they think will get him to sign when the dust settles. That the two sides are still looking for middle ground is a good sign that this will get done. Any team trading for Aiyuk would have to pay him at a level that make the 49ers reluctant and give up a good draft pick to boot. |
Seahawks | Ricky Person joining Seahawks Wed Jun 19, 03:11 PM
Free-agent RB Ricky Person Jr. (Ravens) agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday, June 18, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Person is 6'1" 222 and coming off of a solid UFL season with the Birmingham Stallions. He has been in the Ravens organization previously, but hasn't appeared in a regular season game. He'll have an uphill battle to make the roster with 2023 seventh round pick Kenny McIntosh and 2024 UDFA George Holani his main competition for the third or fourth spot behind Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. |
Chargers | Praise Olatoke financials Wed Jun 19, 03:11 PM
Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Praise Olatoke (Ohio State) signed a three-year contract worth $2.83 million with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday, June 18.
Footballguys view: Olatoke is 6'2" 205, and he has been clocked at 10.27 in the 100 meter dash. Olatoke also ran a 4.36 40 at the International Pathway Program (IPP) combine earlier this year. He has very little football experience, coming over from Nigeria to attend Ohio State, but he did play some club football. He's part of the IPP and won't count against the team's 90 man roster limit. |

Link to storyBrowns | Amari Cooper wants more years Wed Jun 19, 11:25 AM
Cleveland Browns WR Amari Cooper and the team remain at odds over the length of a potential extension, according to sources. Cooper is seeking a contract extension of at least two years guaranteed. The Browns, however, are reluctant to offer Cooper beyond a one-year extension. They have have been willing to include some guaranteed money for the extra year.
Footballguys view: Cooper wants to get a reset on his compensation to current elevated wide receiver pay levels, and over multiple years. The Browns were smart to acquire Cooper for only a fifth round pick when the Cowboys thought he was overpaid at $20 million a season. Now they face a similar decision after signing Jerry Jeudy - whom the Broncos clearly were not attached to - to a multi-year extension following his acquisition. |
Dolphins | Marcus Maye contact numbers Wed Jun 19, 09:38 AM
Updating a previous report, free-agent S Marcus Maye (Saints) signed a one-year contract worth $1.3775 million - including a $167,600 signing bonus - with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday, June 18.
Footballguys view: Maye will provide much needed veteran depth behind Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer. He'll compete with Elijah Campbell for snaps as the third safety. Nik Needham is also being cross-trained at safety and could figure into the position battle for the #3 safety job. Campbell could still make the team because of his special teams contributions and ability to play cornerback. |
Jets | Takkarist McKinley financials Wed Jun 19, 09:38 AM
Updating a previous report, free-agent DE Takkarist McKinley (Cowboys) signed a one-year contract worth $1.125 million with the New York Jets on Tuesday, June 18.
Footballguys view: Football lore remembers the Cowboys taking Taco Charlton over T.J. Watt, but the Atlanta Falcons also took an edge rusher a few picks ahead of Watt that didn't make it to the end of his rookie deal. McKinley was selected with the 26th pick of the 2017 draft - one pick ahead of Tre'Davious White - and they moved up five spots to do it. McKinley has been with the Raiders, Browns, Titans, Rams, and Cowboys since. He made the Jets after a tryout and will be reunited with Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, who was the Falcons linebackers coach when they selected him in 2017. |
