Injury Expectations | Midweek Update | Week 7

Jene Bramel's Injury Expectations | Midweek Update | Week 7 Jene Bramel Published 10/21/2020

Wednesday Media Updates

***Michael Thomas looked to be trending toward playing prior to his Week 6 bye before a disciplinary action put him on the inactive list. With another two weeks to recover, there was every reason to expect Thomas to be full strength for Week 7. Unfortunately, Thomas was limited with a hamstring injury on Wednesday. The Saints refuse to discuss injuries. A Thursday DNP would be distressing.

***Joe Mixon did not practice on Wednesday. The Bengals often rest injured veterans who expect to play and Mixon was watching practice in a hoodie rather than rehabbing. Despite snaps where he didn't look comfortable after his injury last week, Mixon finished the game and played effectively. It's reasonable to expect him to play until we see clear practice evidence to the contrary.

***Jonnu Smith's ankle injury limited him in practice but there's a good chance he recovers and plays this week. Video suggested a low ankle sprain and Adam Schefter reported on Monday the injury was believed to be minor.

***Jamison Crowder may have suffered a groin injury in practice today. Healthy last week and not discussed as an injury concern by Adam Gase before practice, the groin listing looks like a new injury.

THURSDAY NIGHT INJURY EXPECTATIONS

Here are the key offensive players listed on the practice participation or game status report for Thursday Night Football:

New York Giants at Philadelphia

The Giants are healthy. Darius Slatyon was limited in practice but is not listed on the game status report. He will play and should see his regular usage.

Sterling Shepard was designated to return off injured reserve. He may not be ready to return Thursday night but is trending toward playing in Week 8. If he's moved to the active roster there's a chance for a limited role this week.

Philadelphia will have DeSean Jackson (and tackle Lane Johnson) back this week. Zach Ertz, Miles Sanders, and Alshon Jeffery are out.

Early week practice participation and playing expectations

The Wednesday and Thursday practice participation reports are our first chance to see which players each NFL team is limiting in practice after the previous week's games. Players limited in mid-week practice aren't necessarily in danger of missing that week's game. But they all need to be watched closely.
