Jeff Bell's NFC Players Nearing Milestones Jeff Bell Published 06/21/2023

The football community sits on the verge of the 2023 NFL season. Traditional events like OTAs and arguments about Hard Knocks appearances are occurring. With an eye toward the new season, what statistical milestones are in sight in the NFC?

New York Giants

Saquon Barkley is 751 rushing yards from 5,000 for his career and 1,048 from passing Joe Morris for third on the franchise leaderboard. Before passing franchise leader Tiki Barber's 10,449, there is still a way to go.

Dallas Cowboys

Affix an asterisk, but Ezekiel Elliott sat just four touchdowns from passing Tony Dorsett for second in franchise history before leaving the team. Elliott is 1,738 career rushing yards from the 10,000 mark. No, he is not a Cowboy as of this writing, but Dak Prescott has a ways to go before anything cool.

Washington Commanders

With 719 receiving yards, Terry McLaurin will become the ninth player in Commanders' history to top 5,000 receiving yards. He will top Michael Westbrook and Jordan Reed in the franchise's top ten with three receiving touchdowns.

Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts can move into the top six of the Eagles' all-time passing yards with 2,334 and the top 10,000 career yards along the way. He is 14 touchdown passes from topping Nick Foles' 58 and ranking inside the top eight.

A.J. Brown set the franchise record with 1,496 receiving yards in 2022. He is 509 yards away from crossing the career 5,000 mark.

Detroit Lions

Goff is in a similar position as Hurts, needing 2,317 yards to top 10,000 with the Lions. He sits at fourth overall in Rams' franchise passing yards, and two more seasons at his current pace with the Lions will see him threatening Bobby Layne for second in franchise history with 15,710 yards. Matthew Stafford is well in front, passing for nearly 30,000 more yards than Layne.

Chicago Bears

Outside of Walter Payton's 16,726 rushing yards, the Bears have low thresholds for historical numbers. Still, everyone on the team is new, and none threaten significant numbers. Unless Justin Fields can become the first Bear to throw for 4,000 yards and take the franchise off the dubious distinction of never having a passer hit that mark.

Minnesota Vikings

Dalvin Cook's departure takes this down a notch. He was 825 rushing yards and five touchdowns away from moving into second place all-time in each category.

Kirk Cousins can still be second on the franchise's passing list. He needs 3,841 yards to top Tommy Kramer and six touchdown passes to top Kramer in that category. Cousins can pass Kerry Collins' career 40,922 with 3,782 yards. Collins sits 20th but will likely be passed by Russell Wilson, who is just 339 yards back.

Adam Thielen is another long-time departure. He leaves the top four in every significant franchise-receiving category. If Justin Jefferson keeps up his current pace, he will be topping Thielen in all but touchdowns in two seasons.

Green Bay Packers

Regarding falling short of career milestones, Aaron Rodgers leaves the Packers 2,600 yards shy of Brett Favre's franchise record.

Aaron Jones would need a big season, but with 11 rushing touchdowns, he would move into a tie with Ahman Green for second on the team list. Jones is 3,038 away from Ahman Green's franchise lead.
