IDL and Edge Streaming Matchups Week 5

Joseph Haggan's IDL and Edge Streaming Matchups Week 5 Joseph Haggan Published 10/04/2023

In Week 4, we crushed our IDL and Edge Streaming calls. Haason Reddick was poised to have a breakout facing off with the Commanders. Though he did not have a huge game, he did come away with his first sack of the season. Travon Walker had a great matchup with the Falcons and dropped two tackles with a sack as well. On the interior, we went with B.J. Hill and Jordan Davis. Hill was able to come away with half of a sack, though Davis was a surprising disappointment in a great matchup with just two assisted tackles.

Our sleepers were Nik Bonitto on the edge and Taven Bryan on the interior. Bonitto broke out with four total tackles, two and a half sacks, and a forced fumble. Bryan was not as productive but still came away with a pair of tackles. Here are your top IDL and Edge streaming matchups for Week 5.

IDL and Edge Streaming Options

Edge, Bradley Chubb, Miami Dolphins

Matchup: New York Giants - Ranked 16th in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings

Chubb is a phenomenal player, though for IDP purposes, he has been incredibly frustrating. This year has not been any different. He has 14 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble on the season, though seven of those tackles, the sack, and the forced fumble all came in Week 2 against the Patriots. He has averaged three pressures per game and has not missed a tackle all season.

I expect Chubb to have another blow-up game in Week 5. His matchup should have fantasy managers launching him into their lineups. The Dolphins are facing the Giants this week. This is a team that just gave up 10 sacks to the Seahawks, who only had six sacks in the first three weeks. The Dolphins have a much more complete pass rush than the Seahawks and will keep Daniel Jones running for his life...again.

Edge, Jonathan Greenard, Houston Texans

Matchup: Atlanta Falcons - Ranked 10th in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings

Greenard has had a strong start on a surprisingly strong Texans defense. Pairing with rookie Will Anderson Jr., the pass rush has been strong early on. Greenard has 15 total tackles and three sacks in the first four games and gets a matchup that we exploited last week, the Falcons.

The Falcons have allowed 16 sacks this season. That is good for a tie for fourth most in the NFL. The Jaguars Edge defenders just dropped four sacks on Ridder last week. This week does not look any easier for the overmatched offensive tackles in Week 5. Greenard is in a great position to succeed.

IDL, Zach Sieler, Miami Dolphins

Matchup: New York Giants - Ranked 16th in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings

Trend #1 - Play your defensive line players against the Giants. The Giants offensive line looks unbelievably terrible, especially after Week 4's showing, as I mentioned earlier with streaming Bradley Chubb. The offensive line for the Giants is leaky throughout, and the game script for this Sunday should have the Giants throwing plenty, trying to keep up with the Dolphins.

Sieler may be the most under-appreciated interior defensive lineman in the NFL. Rarely do you hear his name brought up when targeting interior linemen. He has been a serviceable IDL1/2 for three years now, putting up 180 tackles and nine sacks over that span. He has started off well this season with 13 tackles and a sack in the first four games. the Dolphins are going to make Daniel Jones miserable in Week 5.

IDL, Sheldon Rankins, Houston Texans

Matchup: Atlanta Falcons - Ranked 10th in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings

Trend #2 - Play your defensive line players against the Falcons. The Falcons offensive line is a strange one. They are a good unit, though the game script and scheme allow for defensive linemen to score well against them. The offense is a stagnant, run-heavy scheme that, unfortunately, plays from behind plenty, also allowing for late-game, pass-rushing stats.

Sheldon Rankins has had a decent yet unspectacular career. He has only produced over 40 tackles just twice in his seven-year career, but that is not what we are streaming him for. Rankins does have 23.5 career sacks, and against the Falcons, he should have the potential to add another.

IDL and Edge Sleeper Options

Edge, Dayo Odeyingbo, Indianapolis Colts

Matchup: Tennessee Titans - Ranked 32nd in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings

Odeyingbo is coming off a huge Week 4 performance. He beat up on the Rams' offensive line once Kwity Paye left with an injury, racking up seven tackles, one and a half sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass defended. Before Paye's departure, Odeyingbo has been an afterthought on the defensive line of the Colts, but Paye is in concussion protocol, so this comes with a caveat.

If Paye misses Week 5, Odeyingbo is in a great position to succeed. The Titans have one of the worst offensive lines in football and have given up 16 sacks on the season. If Paye sits, Odeyingbo has the potential for another Week 4 performance in Week 5.

IDL, Christian Barmore, New England Patriots

Matchup: New Orleans Saints - Ranked 7th in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings

Barmore has been quiet in the box score this season, with just six tackles and a single sack on the season. It is a bit deceiving, though, because he has been an effective pass rusher, just not hitting home. He has 11 pressures on the season and a pass rush grade of 72.3 on the season per Pro Football Focus. Barmore also plays high volume, with a 57% snap share this season.

The Patriots challenge the Saints in Week 5, who have given up 13 sacks on the season, good for sixth most. If you are looking for a good interior pass rusher playing high volume against a team struggling to protect the quarterback, you could do much worse than Barmore.

Final Thoughts

We have stayed rather productive weekly streaming defensive linemen, diving pretty deep on some of the calls. For this week, you can see that there are two matchups that I think are exploitable. If you have defensive linemen on the Dolphins or Texans, start them. Thanks for reading again, and good luck in Week 5.
