Indianapolis at Houston
The Indianapolis rushing offense ranked second in the league in rushing yards last season (2,540), behind only Philadelphia (2,715). Indianapolis was led by Jonathan Taylor, while Philadelphia had a multi-pronged rushing attack including Quarterback Jalen Hurts. Indianapolis lost starting left tackle Eric Fisher to retirement and starting right guard Mark Glowinski in free agency. Veteran Matt Pryor has experience at multiple positions along the offensive line and is expected to start at left tackle with 2020 fifth-round pick Danny Pinter expected to start at right guard. The team will also need a rebound from Center Ryan Kelly who struggled in 2022. The team added Matt Ryan in a trade who will take over for Carson Wentz at Quarterback.
Houston will see a bit of an overhaul from last season, but it is unlikely to change the outlook of their season. Lovie Smith was named Head Coach after David Culley was fired after one season. Smith was the Defensive Coordinator for the Texans last year when the team gave up the second most rushing yards (142 per game) while also giving up the second most rushing attempts in the league. The team lost Safety Justin Reed in the offseason and will start Derek Stingley and Jalen Pitre, whom they selected in the first and second rounds of the 2022 draft, in their secondary to start the season.
