Random Shots From Week 4

Joe Bryant's Random Shots From Week 4 Joe Bryant Published 10/05/2022

Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys, with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, and it's a few pages of me downloading my brain that gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to Football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now let's get to it.

J

It's October...

Your weekly reminder, Patrick Mahomes II is ridiculous.

More. Look at where Mahomes and Edwards-Helaire are at this point in the play.

Can you imagine trying to defend this offense? Here's the angle you'd see:

Michael Jordan style points with the tongue right before the spin move.

And finally, the NFL Films version. This is beautiful.

I could probably stop right here.

The league and the Dolphins were rightfully heavily criticized over the Tua Tagovailoa situation, where he was clearly concussed in the Week 3 game and then allowed to play in Week 4, where he suffered another concussion and had to be taken off the field on a spine board and then to the hospital. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said it was “astonishing,” and had “never seen anything like it before” in his nearly-40-years of coaching.

Joe Flacco says, "Hi."

In Week 8 of the 2017 season, The Ravens quarterback was knocked out of the game with a concussion after a vicious hit by Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso.

Then Harbaugh had him right back out there in Week 9 against the Titans. Even though the Ravens had a week 10 bye.

Maybe check the "astonished" there.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I don't see much that's funny about Tom Brady's divorce.

Some things can be left alone.

The Ole Miss coaches' booth reaction to a game-winning play went viral this week.

Coach Lane Kiffin asked folks to put together some famous movie clips with the coach's reaction.

The Internet did not disappoint.

Speaking of Kiffin, a throwback to 2008.

The Kenny Pickett era began in Pittsburgh last week.

The Good News: He completed all 13 of his passes.

The Bad News: 3 of those were caught by Jets players.

Thanks to Stevie Football for that one.

I miss Reggie White.

I don't keep up with Baseball much these days. But this is cool.

Put a helmet on this mascot and into the lineup.

This was casually savage.

For you video game folks, these guys made a real-life GTA.

People are awesome.

Antonio Brown's in the news again for the wrong reasons.

This picture is probably way too close to the truth.

I'd love to know what was said here...

I'm with my buddy Clayton Gray on this one: One of the best things about a London NFL game is you'll likely see a jersey from every team in the stands.

Someone from Hollywood, please make this happen.

Simeon Woods-Richardson would be 1st round of the Random Shots Baseball All Name team just on volume.

The Griddy is international.

The London double doink field goal attempt felt like a movie.

This view of the players watching the kick is incredible.

Zach Wilson has more touchdowns than Elijah Moore...

The Giants went full-on Legacy with the throwback uniforms.

Even better, Tone Loc performed the half-time show.

Well done, Giants. (It's been a while since I typed that sentence)

Thanks to Sigmund Bloom for that one.

That makes the music note a cinch this week. Throwback to Wild Thing and the golden age of MTV when they actually played, you know, music videos.

I remember thinking that guy with the portable turntable was the coolest thing ever.

Nick Chubb is from Chubbtown?

Yes, he is.

That's awesome.

It's nice to be able to relate to NFL Players...

I bet this was fun in the Cardinals' film room.

This was easily my favorite thing this week.

Rock on, Garrett Bolles

His wife roasted him too.

That guy can play on my team anytime.

This was an incredible story about Alabama coach Nick Saban advising Jalen Hurts when he decided to transfer from Alabama.

It makes total sense, and it's how Football works today. Especially in the NFL.

What amazes me is how many teams still don't address this. If I ran a team, I'd run it just like Jason Licht in Tampa Bay. Do whatever you can to protect your most important player, and get him weapons. It's that simple. The NFL game today is about quarterback play. Giving them the best chance to succeed would be my number one job.

Although maybe it's not all about offense.

The Lions have scored the most points with 140. They're 1-3.

Thanks to Outsider Sports for that one.

One more on Patrick Mahomes II. I think his core and leg strength is underrated. He gets the attention for the crazy arm angles and throws. But he's stout. Many quarterbacks don't have the lower body strength to make this play.

When you start a sentence with "This is not an excuse, but..." you're making an excuse.

Maybe going to the Driving Range in a hurricane isn't the best idea...

I'm no offensive coordinator, but I'd probably have someone try to block Aaron Donald.

No lead is safe with Baltimore.

The end of the game with Buffalo was wild. Odafe Oweh almost caused a fumble. But Buffalo is too well-coached for Singletary not to go down there.

Of course, Baltimore bypassing a field goal on the previous possession and failing to convert a 4th and short made all the difference.

It's hard to blame the Ravens there going for the touchdown. If only they had a reliable kicker...

Linemen don't get to rub it in that often. But when they do...

Thanks to Tom Wiklund for that one.

Aaron Judge finally got his 62nd home run. Good for him. And good for all of us. Some of the cutaways to at-bats were tiresome.

The Internet had fun with some of these clips.

Don't jump onto the playing field.

And if you are going to jump on the field, at least do it right and be naked.

But mostly, don't jump onto the playing field.

Wrapping with this one. I don't have many words to add here, as the video tells the story.

Lots of people are struggling. Some mightily. If you're one of those people, you don't have to do it alone. If you're having thoughts of harming yourself, you can call 988 to talk with someone who can help. Talk to them. Talk to your neighbor. Talk to me. Just talk to someone.

This is real stuff.

Thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Sigmund Bloom, Jake Bryant, Tom Wiklund, Adam Harstad, and Clayton Gray for help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
