Wednesday Media Updates

***Patrick Mahomes II fully practiced. Unless his knee doesn't react well to the increased participation, he'll be cleared to return this week. Consider him probable to play.

***James Conner returned to limited practice. That's obviously reassuring but the team will continue to evaluate him through the week. Mike Tomlin would only say practice participation would determine Conner's availability. Conner himself hasn't spoken to the media. Benny Snell will be out again this week. Trey Edmunds did not practice with a rib injury.

***Sean Payton told reporters he expects Alvin Kamara to be ready to play. A full practice by the end of the week would reassure that Kamara isn't at high risk of aggravation.

***Mike Zimmer said Adam Thielen did not aggravate his injury last week but said the hamstring "grabbed a bit." That sounds like an aggravation to me. Thielen didn't practice on Wednesday and should be considered doubtful to play.

***A.J. Green continues to deal with stiffness and swelling, which recurred this week after Green's first full workout in three months. The Bengals continue to call Green day-to-day but he may again be at least a week from returning.

***Evan Engram will miss this week after a specialist visit to evaluate a foot sprain recommended rest and rehab. It's currently not expected to be a long-term injury but foot sprains can be tricky to rehab.

***Jacoby Brissett was limited in practice as the Colts watch to see how he responds to workouts. He remains questionable but Wednesday's practice is a hopeful sign.

***Le'Veon Bell missed Wednesday's practice after having another MRI on his ailing knee earlier in the week. There doesn't appear to be significant concern from the team's beat writers but a return to practice on Thursday would be more reassuring.

***Matt Ryan returned to limited practice and is trending toward playing this week.

THURSDAY NIGHT INJURY EXPECTATIONS

Here are the key offensive players listed on the practice participation or game status report for Thursday Night Football:

Los Angeles Chargers at Oakland

***Josh Jacobs continues to play through a painful shoulder injury. He returned to a full midweek practice and is not listed on the injury report. Center Rodney Hudson and tackle Trent Brown are limited and questionable. Brown is more likely than Hudson to play but both are considered game-time decisions.

***The Chargers offense is healthy. Keenan Allen and Russell Okung are off the injury report. Tackle Sam Tevi is the lone questionable starter. Tevi did not practice and looks unlikely to play. On defense, Denzel Perryman is listed questionable but didn't practice.

Early week practice participation and playing expectations

The Wednesday and Thursday practice participation reports are our first chance to see which players each NFL team is limiting in practice after the previous week's games. Players limited in mid-week practice aren't necessarily in danger of missing that week's game. But they all need to be watched closely.
