Random Shots From Week 7

Joe Bryant's Random Shots From Week 7 Joe Bryant Published 10/25/2023

Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, and it's a few pages of me downloading my brain that gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now, let's get to it.

J

Finally, we know what she saw on the plane.

More Bears Goodness with a plea for Carolina...

At last.

It's still October, but that means Movember and mustaches are around the corner. Some early prep work.

I could stop right here with the "Mustache Fran Tarkenton and Hippie Andy Reid" and call it a day.

I love Amon-Ra St. Brown. What a good sport.

I can barely watch these. But I'm thankful for players who give back like this.

Side note: Look at how kind Fred Warner is here. Something about the situation must have made him think the young man was especially a fan of George Kittle, and Warner, one of the best players in the league, happily pushed Kittle to the front.

We celebrated the anniversary this week of one of the all-time coaching rants.

It's scary not knowing what pitch to expect...

If you're wondering why teammates and fans rallied around Foster Moreau after he couldn't pull in the TD Thursday night, part of it's this. Yes, it's a results-driven game. But he seems like a good dude.

Jacksonville's Social Media team with the L's on the beignets from "Cafe Duval" was savage.

And a reason to post the Jamaal Williams clip...

Grandparenting goodness.

I have no idea how the Michigan/Harbaugh thing will turn out or if it's even a thing. But I'm here for the memes.

Tyson Bagent's arm wrestling champion dad was made for the Bears.

Brittany Mahomes got the airtime with Taylor Swift on Sunday, but this seemed like the bigger story.

Western Kentucky may not be in the National Championship hunt. But their uniforms are big time.

Googly Eyes on the front of the helmets and a different "Big Red" for each position group.

Thanks to Jake Bryant for that one.

Blowing the kiss was probably worth the penalty.

What keeps centers up at night.

This would have been a lot more fun if he'd been wearing a giant pair of binoculars...

On that lonely fan note, my Vols had a rough day in Tuscaloosa.

Those wacky Bears with the Kabaddi celebration.

More.

What is Kabaddi? I got you.

Kyle Pitts is the #12 TE in fantasy points this year. But #1 in style points.

As if you needed another reason not to run onto the field.

My guy in blue killing me here.

I don't know much about the NBA, but this Wembanyama kid will be a problem.

For reference, Andrew Wiggins is 6' 7".

Ok then.

The officiating has been rough. No argument there. But the number of things they get right is amazing.

Video. And a reminder that these guys hop up from hits that would put most of us on the couch for a week.

Just going to drop this one right here...

You, like me, may have had Bijan Robinson in your starting lineup Sunday.

They tell me I should look on the bright side, but I'm not feeling it.

Live look in on the Browns in Indianapolis.

I love that he's sticking with it.

Um... Thanks, Magic. I'm sure this is news to everyone involved with the Commanders.

Jalen Ramsey with the "I'm better than you because I can afford a super expensive watch" burn. Shedeur Sanders would be proud.

Nick Siriani with the "Everyone doubts us!" when they're a favorite in every game is so fun.

Music note of the week is going back to an old one. And it's not even a full song. But this backstage rehearsal clip from the Eagles slays me.

For a bit of history, as I know you folks love that, Seven Bridges Road was not an Eagles original. It was written by Steve Young in 1969, and then the Eagles covered it in 1980. There you go.

Philadelphia's Kelly Greens were just the warmup act.

I can't see that H-Town Columbia Blue (Pantone PMS 279 if you're interested) and not think of Warren Moon.

And I can't think of Warren Moon without thinking of the best shoulder pad-to-short ratio in history.

Prayers up for Jalen Carter. He later said he was thinking of what Lebron James would do.

The guy next to him thinking about how much he paid for the ticket...

Yup.

I'm never complaining again about a bad beat.

Don't drive 70 in a 35. Even if you "play for the Saints."

Monday Night Football playing Creed into the commercial break after the Cousins-Addison TD was too good.

Wrapping with one of my favorite stories about grace and moving on and focusing on the positive. It's easy to get caught up in looking for imagined sleights. Or even real sleights. Or true offenses. And we hold on to them and give them oxygen and let them shake our foundation. Brad Pitt shares a fantastic story about Adam Sandler and how he showed grace instead.

I'm all for using folks who doubt you as motivation. Proving the haters wrong is useful and helpful internally. But I think keeping the focus on proving what you can do and less on proving the doubters wrong is by far the best way to live. And showing grace like Sandler is icing on the cake.

Thanks to Joey Wright for that one.

And thank you for being part of this goofy journey with us.

And thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Jake Bryant, Joey Wright, and Clayton Gray for the help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
