Dynasty Trade Value Chart: May

Dan Hindery's Dynasty Trade Value Chart: May Dan Hindery Published 05/03/2023

May’s dynasty trade value chart article will focus on the impact of the NFL Draft on veteran player values. We looked in-depth yesterday at post-draft rookie values, so we will not touch too much on the rookies here.

The dynasty trade value chart is tailored to 12-team PPR leagues, with a starting lineup of one quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, one tight end, and one flex. It now also includes trade values for Superflex leagues in a separate column. The chart is meant to serve primarily as a guide for trades but can also be a great resource during startup drafts. If the players and picks on each side of the trade offer add up to approximately the same number, the trade would be considered even. If you receive a trade offer that sends you players with a higher total number value than the players you are giving up, the offer is worth strongly considering. Each league is different, so pay close attention to the scoring and starting roster requirements specific to your league.

2023 Rookie Picks

As noted above, we went in-depth on rookie and rookie pick values in a separate article yesterday. That article can be found here.

2024 Rookie Picks

Pick Value Superflex
Early 1st-Round Pick 28 36
Mid 1st-Round Pick 20 26
Late 1st-Round Pick 14 16
Early 2nd-Round Pick 8 9
Mid 2nd-Round Pick 7 8
Late 2nd-Round Pick 6 7
3rd-Round Pick 5 5
4th-Round Pick 4 4

One of the themes of the 2023 draft weekend was how teams were valuing 2024 picks more highly than normal because the class looks so strong on paper. This is true from a dynasty perspective, as well. The top of the class is especially loaded in the Superflex format with a pair of elite fantasy quarterback prospects in Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, plus wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Plus, while the class may lack an elite talent in the mold of Bijan Robinson, the middle-class depth at the running back position is stronger than it was with the 2023 group (where the touted “depth” was mostly illusory).

In terms of strategy, you should absolutely be looking to trade late 2023 1st rounders for any 2024 1st rounder. This is especially true if there is even an outside chance of the 2024 pick landing in the top half of the round.

QBs Gaining Value

  • Lamar Jackson Jackson now has an impressive stable of weapons. Zay Flowers has the potential to be far and away the best Ravens wide receiver in recent memory. More importantly, the contract drama is finally in the rearview mirror.
  • Daniel Jones The Giants upgraded the offensive line again with the addition of John Michael Schmitz and added yet another wide receiver into the mix with Jalin Hyatt. More importantly, the bigger picture view of where Jones stands in the fantasy pecking order is coming into focus. He is being drafted as a Top 12 quarterback in redraft leagues and does not turn 26 years old until later this month.
  • Geno Smith We may never know if the Seahawks would have taken Anthony Richardson had he not gone one pick ahead of them to the Colts. Regardless, Smith exits the draft with no real competition for the starting job this year or into the future. He also received a major weapons upgrade with the addition of Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
  • Jared Goff This is a minor value bump given that the Lions did add Hendon Hooker in the third round. However, the draft capital invested in Hooker was minor, and the Lions spent much more draft capital adding a pair of dynamic passing game weapons for Goff with the additions of Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta.
  • Jordan Love Love's fifth year was picked up by the team, and it is also a positive that the Packers used three of their first four picks on pass catchers to upgrade Love’s weapons.

QBs Losing Value

  • Trey Lance There continues to be a steady drumbeat of news, reports, and coaching comments that indicate Brock Purdy is the favorite to start in 2023. There was some hope Lance could be traded during the draft to a place where he would be the heavy favorite to start, but a trade never materialized.
  • Malik Willis We are not quite to the point of dropping Willis in Superflex leagues, but at some point soon, it will become a consideration. Reports during the draft indicated the Titans had “lost faith” in Willis, which is easy to believe considering how they managed the position late in the 2022 season.

RBs Gaining Value

  • Tony Pollard The Cowboys may still bring Ezekiel Elliott back on a low-priced deal, but it is notable that the Cowboys waited until pick 212 to draft a running back. With no long-term deal yet, it is dangerous to project out too far with Pollard, but in the short term, few backs have more value.
  • DAndre Swift It was a bit of a roller coaster in terms of dynasty stock for Swift. His value tanked for about 48 hours after the Lions drafted Jahmyr Gibbs but rebounded to about where it started with the trade to the Eagles.
  • Joe Mixon There is still likely to be a difficult conversation between the Bengals and Mixon about restructuring his contract at some point this offseason but recent indications seem to be that the Bengals think Mixon will be their starter again in 2023. Chase Brown arrives via the fifth round, but things could have been much worse for Mixon in terms of draft capital with the Bengals seemingly in the market for top backs like Jahmyr Gibbs in the first or Zach Charbonnet in the second. With those players off the board before Cincinnati picked, Mixon dodged some bullets.

RBs Losing Value

  • Ken Walker The second-round selection of Zach Charbonnet was a surprise. The Seahawks were a bottom half of the NFL team in fantasy points scored by running backs last season, and Walker now has serious competition for touches.
  • Breece Hall The Jets were reportedly “eyeingJahmyr Gibbs at 15th overall, and he might have been the pick had the Lions not grabbed him three picks earlier. This was a major bullet dodged for Breece Hall. It may have been the Jets simply thought Gibbs was too talented a weapon to pass up, but this is not the first time this offseason the Jets have been linked to a running back. The Jets also drafted Israel Abanikanda on Day 3. We should not overreact, but this has to give you some pause and is enough for me to break ties against Hall.
  • David Montgomery Given the draft capital used on Jahmyr Gibbs, expect him to be more of a threat to steal snaps from Montgomery than Swift was.
  • Tyler Allgeier A strong stretch run to close out his rookie season was not enough to dissuade the Falcons from drafting Bijan Robinson. He is nothing more than injury insurance the next few years.

Surprisingly, it is basically status quo at the wide receiver position, with the draft changing very little in terms of veteran value. You could maybe point to players like K.J. Osborn, Josh Palmer, or DJ Chark, who were impacted by the selection of rookies, but nobody was particularly excited about those guys before the draft, either.
