Tyrion Davis-Price is no stranger to slow starts. He entered LSU as the sixth overall running back in the 2019 recruiting class. His teammate John Emery Jr. was the number one overall back in that class. As a true freshman, he was behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the fabled Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Justin Jefferson national championship team. In his junior year, he emerged, rushing for 1,003 yards and leading to his selection in the 3rd round.

In his rookie year, Davis-Price struggled, eventually losing reps to fellow rookie Jordan Mason. Mason was an under-the-radar option after spending his Georgia Tech career behind Jahmyr Gibbs, the 12th overall pick in 2023.

The arrival of Christian McCaffrey, the presence of Elijah Mitchell, and Jordan Mason climbing over the top of him sent Davis-Price tumbling to waiver wires in deep leagues.

That is a move players may want to reconsider.

The Resume

Davis-Price was always going to be an LSU Tiger. He grew up in Baton Rouge and starred at Southern University Laboratory. In his recruiting journey, he turned down offers from Alabama, Penn St., and Florida St.

At LSU, he served as Edwards-Helaire's primary backup as a true freshman in the 2019 National Championship run, scoring six touchdowns and helping the Tigers win their first championship in 12 years.

In the predraft process, he ran a 4.48, a strong time at his weigh-in number 211. According to Football Outsiders, the resulting speed score of 104 puts him well above average for an NFL running back. However, Davis-Price stated he plays above 220, and that weight would push the speed score above 109, putting him in range of elite backs.
