How soon will James Cook become a fantasy option?
James Cook was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft for a Buffalo team in need of a running back who can add to the passing game. Zack Moss is on the roster fringe while Cook will compete with Devin Singletary for the leading touches in the offense. The split between the two and Cook’s rushing volume are key watches. We currently project Cook for 124 touches (88 rushes and 40 catches) to Singletary’s 210 touches (180 rushes and 32 catches), with both in the RB3 projection range.
How does Miami split touches?
The Miami offense inherits the Shanahan touch with new head coach Mike McDaniel. The running game has been a struggle in Miami in recent seasons and they addressed the position by signing Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, and Sony Michel as free agents. We project Edmonds to lead the backfield in receptions (37) but all three with between 114 and 123 carries. The backfield will struggle to produce a breakout player with a three-headed split at the position.
What is the New England backfield split?
Damien Harris finished second in the league in rushing touchdowns (15) and RB14 on the season in 2021. Harris had 202 carries and 18 receptions in 15 games, compared to 133 carries and 14 receptions for Rhamondre Stevenson. We project both as RB3s with Harris leading the backfield with 180 carries and 167 for Stevenson. An injury to one could elevate the other to a high-end RB2 type projection, but the full blown work split is a watch.
