Top 5 Passing Matchups
Arizona at Seattle
The Cardinals continue to await Kyler Murray’s 2022 breakout game. It’s been a season to forget, packed with miscues all over the offense and some truly pedestrian passing numbers. Through 5 games, Murray sits 30th in yards per attempt (5.8), lower than names like Daniel Jones and Davis Mills. Still, Murray can always produce count stats when given volume, and it helps to hand him a cherry matchup like this one. Even with DeAndre Hopkins out, he throws to a handful of dynamic targets in Marquise Brown, Zach Ertz, and a finally healthy Rondale Moore. It’s an attack that’s now rooted in athleticism and YAC to create splash plays. That matches up nicely with a Seahawks defense that badly misses Bobby Wagner, Jamal Adams, and a handful of other renowned tacklers.
The Seahawks haven’t faced much elite quarterbacking to open the year: Russell Wilson, Trey Lance/Jimmy Garoppolo, Marcus Mariota, Jared Goff, Andy Dalton. That makes it even more damning to see them sitting 24th in yardage per game (259.8) and dead last per attempt (8.9). In other words, opponents are taking what they want through the air for as long as they feel they have to. The Seahawks have already made fantasy studs out of opponents from T.J. Hockenson (8-179-2) to Jerry Jeudy (4-102-1) to Josh Reynolds (7-81-1). To put it mildly, they’ve gotten uneven play from a duo of rookie cornerbacks, Tariq Woolen and Coby Bryant, as well as journeyman Michael Jackson. There’s a full youth movement at play here; they’ve gotten hardly any snaps from proven vets Sidney Jones and Artie Burns. Jamal Adams was never much of a coverage star, but he’s still missed in a subpar group of safeties that provides little help downfield. This may well be the week Kyler Murray and the Cardinals start hitting on their deep balls.
