The preseason Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills are in sixth place in the AFC. There it is if you wondered why the team would further risk Josh Allen's elbow.
The 2021 AFC representative Cincinnati Bengals sit in 9th place at 5-4. The Bengals sat in a similar position in 2021, 5-4, before eventually making the playoffs at 10-7. The Steelers grabbed the 7th position at 9-7-1.
Nine wins are not making the AFC playoffs.
The conference has six teams sitting at 6-3 or better. And the Bills' 6-1 start is far in the rearview now after a two-game losing streak. For the second straight week, the Bills lost a lead with a win percentage greater than 88%.
Allen played well, with 330 passing yards and 84 rushing yards, but the Vikings deserve to be the day's story. The Bills posted a 27-10 lead just before the third quarter, and the game looked academic. The team answered a Dalvin Cook 81-yard touchdown that brought the game to 27-17 with a six-minute drive that brought the game into the 4th quarter, leaving them with a 4th-and-2 decision from the Vikings' 7-yard-line. Sean McDermott opted out of the field goal attempt to push the game back to three scores. Then the floodgates broke. Patrick Peterson intercepted Josh Allen for the first of two times on the day, and some of the craziest football of the 2022 season ensued over the closing 20 minutes of game time.
Long story short, the Bills lost. And the AFC playoff race got extremely tight. And the Vikings never quit.
The status quo held through much of Week 10. The Giants continued their outstanding season, stretching to 7-2. The Dolphins continued their offensive explosion, leading the day's scorers with 39 points. Aaron Rodgers continued his excellence against Dallas, pushing his record to 7-2 against the Cowboys. And Denver's offense was again bad.
Football, as usual.
Except in Indianapolis.
Frank Reich's dismissal and Jeff Saturday's hiring dominated the news leading into Week 10. Rumors of the Colts tanking. Grand proclamations about the Colts shaming the league. Everyone laughed. So what did they do? Win.
Saturday replaced Sam Ehlinger with Matt Ryan, and the Colts again looked like an NFL franchise. Ryan turned back the clock, setting up the game-winning touchdown with a 39-yard run that topped his previous high of 20. Jonathan Taylor looked like his old self, with 147 yards and a touchdown.
And the Colts won.
The team is going to need good vibes. The undefeated Philadelphia Eagles wait in Week 11, and the team plays the second most difficult remaining schedule in the NFL.
Trade deadlines are approaching in dynasty leagues, and with it, difficult decisions. The Vikings and Colts showed the importance of taking one moment at a time. And the Bills showed what can happen when focus slips. Trust your instincts and make deals that help your direction. Even if the league laughs, do what is best for you.
