Buy Low
Devin Singletary, Nyheim Hines (RB-BUF)
The Bills offense is going to be limited by Josh Allen’s elbow injury for a few weeks, whether Allen misses time or not (sounds like he’ll be out this week at least). That should mean more balance and more reliance on the short passing game. The team could also have to run the ball and use the short passing game more with the weather getting colder and teams employing more cover 2 to slow down Allen. Singletary and Hines should be more important going forward, with Hines offering the bonus possibility of snaps in the slot.
James Robinson (RB-NYJ)
Buying low on Robinson was a featured action item in this column last week. His bye could be a good chance to acquire, especially in redraft, as some Robinson teams will be shorthanded in the backfield. The Jets seem to have settled into a groove as a backfield-centric offense, and Robinson is the likely short-yardage back in the duo with Michael Carter. Robinson even scored on a reception last week, and the Jets look like a winning team that will keep game scripts on their terms most weeks.
Dontrell Hilliard (RB-TEN), Elijah Mitchell (RB-SF), Kenneth Gainwell (RB-PHI)
This is your group of preferred backup running backs to stash that could make your season. The Titans are overworking Derrick Henry, he broke down last year, and Hilliard has already looked like the second most dangerous player in this offense. Mitchell is a proven commodity in the 49ers offense, Christian McCaffrey went down in each of the last two seasons, and everyone has moved on from Mitchell since he got hurt in Week 1. Gainwell isn’t a true backup and wouldn’t take over the backfield if Miles Sanders goes down, but he has some standalone desperation play value, and this offense is good enough to make Gainwell an RB2/Flex option if he can even get up to 10-12 touches a game. Miles Sanders is only 48 carries away from his career high in rush attempts and we’re only at the halfway point in the season.
Jimmy Garoppolo (QB-SF)
Garoppolo is set up for a strong second half of the season with the best pass-catching running back in the league, who now has had a week off to acclimate himself to the 49ers offense. Deebo Samuel is healthy enough to play again, and when you add in Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, this unit is almost impossible to match up well with in the passing game. Garoppolo should be the biggest beneficiary for fantasy unless the 49ers defense returns to its dominant early-season form.
Kenny Golladay (WR-NYG), Daniel Jones (QB-NYG)
Golladay should be available for couch cushion change, and that’s all he’s worth… for now. It seems like Brian Daboll is a rational coach, and he has had a week off now to figure out to how to use a rejuvenated Golladay to boost a passing game that hasn’t been too bad when you consider how shorthanded it has been. Jones' running ability could also be unleashed with more designed runs and time to workshop some plays to put run defenses accounting for the quarterback and Saquon Barkley in true 11-on-11 football. This offense could come together in the second half of the season.
