CASH GAME STRATEGY WEEK 19
Where is the Value?
On this four game slate, there is little to no value. While injuries typically help open up some value, it seems this week it only complicates things as the injured players are likely going to play, but will likely be in a split backfield or limited snap count scenario which makes it difficult to roster either the injured player or the backup.
Running Back
There are not any running backs to consider that are under $6,000. Travis Homer may get a look from some based on getting 12 touches last week, but there are too many good players in the 6-7k range in Carlos Hyde, Raheem Mostert, and Damien Williams that you do not need to look below 6k. Pairing two of those with Aaron Jones appears to be the right move this week.
Wide Receiver
- Deebo Samuel and Emmanuel Sanders- The Vikings secondary largely held up last week which was the first in quite some time that they had been able to do so. On the year, the Vikings were the seventh-worst in terms of FanDuel points allowed to the wide receiver position as Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes have both struggled this season. Samuel and Sanders are both inconsistent, but both possess the upside that you’re looking for in a punt wide receiver as both topped 800 yards on the season.
- Kenny Stills is dealing with a knee injury, but with Will Fuller extremely questionable and with a Chiefs secondary that is missing Juan Thornhill, the chances of a big play increase dramatically. At just $5,700, Stills only needs to get behind the Chiefs secondary once in this game in order to pay off his salary. While he has just one catch longer than 30 yards since October, Stills is risky, but in a slate that has limited options could pay off.
- It is difficult to trust Marquise Brown at this point as he has averaged just 2.6 targets per game over his last five games, but the Ravens will look to utilize Brown at some point in the playoffs if they want to make the run that they are hoping for. At just $5,300, he is a long shot, but another guy where if he catches one pass it may be all that he needs to hit value.
Tight End
Tight end is a wasteland this week outside of George Kittle and Travis Kelce. Jacob Hollister is likely the only guy sub 6k that is interesting, but his upside is incredibly limited as he has not scored a touchdown over his last seven games, and is averaging just 8.5 yards per reception as when he is targeted he is not a guy who is going to have a big gain after the catch. This seems to be a position that you are going to want to spend up to either Kittle or Kelce this week.
INJURY UNLOCKS OPPORTUNITY?
- Mark Ingram is dealing with a calf injury and is questionable this week. It looks like he is going to play this week, but how limited he is going to be is a major concern. If we hear he is on a snap count or if he somehow misses, Gus Edwards would be a fantastic play.
- Travis Kelce is questionable with a knee injury after being a limited participant this week at practice. All signs point towards Kelce being able to play, but if he didn’t it would likely point towards Damien Williams and Tyreek Hill seeing additional targets.
- Adam Thielen is dealing with an ankle injury that caused him to have to get stitches in his ankle last week. If Thielen is good to go, he is a great value this week, but if for some reason he misses, Stefon Diggs could see an uptick in production.
KEY CASH CORE
Aaron Jones- $8,200
Aaron Jones is the running back on this slate that it is the safest outside of Derrick Henry who it seems that we will be unable to spend up for if you’re wanting to play Lamar Jackson. Jones over his last two games has been dominant as he has 45 carries for 254 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is facing a Seahawks defense that has been below-average against the run this season allowing 1.1 touchdowns per game and the 9th most fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Travis Kelce- $7,500
If you’ve followed this for most of the season, you know that it is very rare that we spend up at the tight end position. However, this week is a little bit different in that there is not a tight end to feel great about this week. We could go back to Kyle Rudolph, but that is something that is risky as he’s facing a strong 49ers team. Jacob Hollister is unlikely to win you anything and is priced up at $5,700. Kelce provides security even though he is less than 100%.
Will Fuller- $5,600
Most people are going to forget this, but earlier this season, Will Fuller dropped three touchdowns against the Chiefs. Now, Juan Thornhill who is a rookie safety who has had a nice year was placed on IR which will force Armani Watts into serious action who has almost no experience in the NFL in his first two seasons. The injury is a concern, so if you’re building a lineup, make sure you have $100 left over if you are playing Fuller so that you can go up to Kenny Stills if Fuller is out, but look for one of these speed receivers to burn the Chiefs deep in this game.
