Monday Showdown Week 15

Ben Cummins's Monday Showdown Week 15 Ben Cummins Published 12/18/2023

Disclaimer

These contests are intended to be fun as you’re watching the game. It’s incredibly difficult to get a real edge as there are so few options, and in MME contests, there are often many duplicate lineups. One play or one penalty can change the entire outcome of the game.

Game Strategy

  • Over/Under: 47.5
  • Spread: Eagles -3
  • Eagles Implied Team Total: 25.3
  • Seahawks Implied Team Total: 22.3

Both quarterbacks are questionable, but whereas Geno Smith is reportedly a long shot to play, we expect Jalen Hurts to play through the illness he's dealing with. That should funnel our plays toward the Eagles, even with this game being played in Seattle. Drew Lock simply isn't it.

Philadelphia Eagles

Quarterback

Jalen Hurts - Captain/Flex

Jalen Hurts is questionable due to an illness but is expected to play through it. Hurts should be slightly downgraded, but he's still a must-play in a one-game Showdown with Drew Lock projected to be the other quarterback in this game. Hurts leads all quarterbacks in fantasy points per game (23.2) after Josh Allen's down game yesterday. Hurts leads an Eagles offense that ranks fourth in Expected Points Added per Play (EPA/Play), fourth in Dropback EPA, eighth in Pass Rate Over Expected (PROE), and fourth in Early Down Pass Frequency (EDPF). He's got a great matchup here against a Seahawks defense that ranks 29th in EPA/Play Allowed and 24th in Dropback EPA Allowed since Week 7.

Running Back/Wide Receiver/Tight End

A.J. Brown - Captain/Flex

A.J. Brown has had a fantastic season. He ranks seventh in targets per game (10.1), sixth in receptions per game (6.9), and third in receiving yards per game (96.8). He's a bet on elite talent to exploit a favorable matchup against a Seahawks defense that ranks 29th in EPA/Play Allowed and 24th in Dropback EPA Allowed since Week 7.

DeVonta Smith - Captain/Flex

DeVonta Smith has become a larger part of Philadelphia's offense, even with Dallas Goedert returning last week. Here are his targets over his past four games: 8, 8, 11, and 10. Smith is a very good talent at wide receiver in the NFL and should find success in this favorable matchup, seeing around seven to nine targets.

Dallas Goedert - Captain/Flex

Dallas Goedert returned last week and immediately played on 84% of the offensive snaps. However, he only caught four passes for 30 yards. Play Goedert in tournaments as most will wait to see it before believing in Goedert again.

D'Andre Swift - Captain/Flex

D'Andre Swift's production has gone down the toilet recently, but that could all change here in an awesome matchup against a Seahawks defense that ranks 29th in EPA/Play Allowed and 31st in Rush EPA Allowed since Week 7. Swift still ranks 18th in opportunities per game (17.2) and could see an expanded workload here, with Jalen Hurts expected to play at less than 100% due to his illness.

Kenneth Gainwell - Tournament Flex

Kenneth Gainwell's offensive snap percentages in his last two games: 54% and 45%. His playing time hasn't turned into a lot of touches but Gainwell makes sense as a tournament option who could catch some passes and/or find the end zone in this favorable spot.

Quez Watkins - Tournament Flex

Quez Watkins is a pure tournament flex play in case he catches a long touchdown. He recently returned from injury and has played on 64% and 47% of the offensive snaps over the past two weeks.

Seattle Seahawks

Quarterback

Drew Lock - Flex

Geno Smith is questionable and reportedly a long shot to play. Drew Lock projects to make his second straight start after throwing for 269 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions last week. Lock has talented weapons around him, is playing at home, and has a great matchup against a struggling Eagles defense that only ranks 31st in EPA/Play Allowed and 26th in Dropback EPA Allowed since Week 7.

Running Back/Wide Receiver/Tight End

Ken Walker III and Zach Charbonnet - Flexes

Ken Walker III returned to action last week and played on 56% of the offensive snaps compared to Zach Charbonnet's 42% snap share. Charbonnet saw 10 opportunities compared to Walker's 13. Both running backs are in play but Walker is the preferred play in his second game back at home in a favorable spot against a struggling Eagles defense that only ranks 31st in EPA/Play Allowed and 30th in Rush EPA Allowed since Week 7.

DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba - Flexes

Seattle's wide receivers are tough to predict because all of them are talented and playing a lot. The targets last week in Drew Lock's first start of the year were Jaxon Smith-Njigba 7, Tyler Lockett 6, and DK Metcalf 5. Metcalf was the only one to find the end zone, but he was targeted the fewest. Because of this, fade Metcalf and roll with Lockett and/or Smith-Njigba.

Noah Fant - Tournament Flex

Noah Fant is a talented player worth a shot in tournaments as a pure flex play in case he can find the end zone. Remember, Fant and Drew Lock have history as they played together in Denver and were both traded to Seattle for Russell Wilson. He has a favorable matchup against a struggling Eagles defense that only ranks 31st in EPA/Play Allowed and 26th in Dropback EPA Allowed since Week 7.
