Welcome to Week 6 of last-minute moves to make. This article is intended to give you late-week waiver and free-agent advice based on late-week news and gameday inactives. Injuries and other late-week developments can have a huge impact on lines and rosters, and being up-to-date on these, especially before waivers and free agency locks before kickoff, is a huge advantage.
Stash Darrynton Evans
The Chicago Bears’s backfield is a complete MASH Unit. Khalil Herbert has been placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Roschon Johnson did not practice this week because of a concussion suffered on Thursday Night Football in week 5. Travis Homer is also out with a leg injury. The Bears will turn to D’Onta Foreman as a starter and the team has signed Darrynton Evans to serve as a reserve. Evans was a third-round pick in the NFL Draft by Tennessee but has bounced around in his career. He is an injury away from a potential spot start in the coming week or two and warrants a back-of-roster stash for the week.
Stash P.J. Walker
There is weirdness in Cleveland. Head coach Kevin Stefanski had last week that Deshaun Watson was cleared to play, before he missed week 4 and is out for week 6 after a week 5 bye. Watson is dealing with a bruise in his shoulder that is complicating his throwing ability. He will be replaced by P.J. Walker this week, who had a couple of strong spot starts last year in Carolina. Week six will be a terrible matchup against San Francisco, but week 7 will be a much better matchup against Indianapolis’s defense especially in a week with six byes.
Stash Jeff Wilson
DeVon Achane has been placed on injured reserve and is out for four weeks. This will create an opportunity behind Raheem Mostert in the Miami backfield. Wilson has struggled with durability in his career, but he is the type of running back capable of producing starter quality in the short sample size he would be expected to play with Achane on injured reserve.
Stash Craig Reynolds
Jahmyr Gibbs is out of week 6 with a hamstring injury, leaving David Montgomery to start and Craig Reynolds to serve as the backup. Gibbs’s injury status is uncertain for week 7, leaving Reynolds the ideal late-minute move. Stash Reynolds in the event Montgomery is injured this week and Gibbs is unable to play in week 7. If Montgomery and/or Gibbs can play next week, Reynolds will be an easy cut.
Stash Will Greier
Mac Jones is on a short leash in week 6, according to media reports. Will Grier has been rumored as potentially getting an opportunity to play if Jones is pulled. Greier is worth an addition in deeper leagues, like Superflex-2QB leagues with deeper rosters. The Patriots offense is not good, so Greier could have a tough go of it, but it is worth the speculative option.
Stash Tyquan Thornton
The New England wide receiver corps is arguably the worst in the league and is hampered by injuries to both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Demario Douglas. Last year’s second-round pick Tyquan Thornton is returning from injured reserve in week 6 and should get an early opportunity in a weak wide receiver depth chart. Thornton is worth a speculative addition to see if he can carve out a role early in his return to the lineup.
