Random Shots From Week 8

Joe Bryant's Random Shots From Week 8 Joe Bryant Published 11/02/2022

Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys, with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, and it's a few pages of me downloading my brain that gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to Football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now let's get to it.

J

If a fantasy football season were nine seconds like this video, we're about four seconds in. So far, feels accurate.

Make sure to have the sound on.

I love this so much.

Until next year...

On that note, November can be a challenge. Click on the calendar for the full image.

Tuesday was a wild day for trading in the NFL.

My buddy Adam Schefter doing Adam Schefter things breaking news on live television.

From Lion to Viking...

Anyone else betting Kadarius Toney gets healthier in Kansas City?

Twitter can be savage...

With Tennessee traveling to defending National Champion Georgia this Saturday, it might not last for long. But Vol fans were having fun this week.

Bonus this week as the Music Note is also a Movie Note.

The Royal Tennenbaums is one of my top five all-time movies. Like everyone, I like Paul Simon. I mean, who doesn't like Paul Simon? But I don't love Paul Simon.

But I'm not sure there's a better music montage in history than this one.

Here's the audio for the whole song - Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.

Live look in on Cam Akers asking his agent why Nyheim Hines can get traded, but he can't...

Your NFC Division Leaders.

I love this game.

I'm not going to lie; the "How is that guy available in YOUR league?" folks are tiresome.

Play fantasy football how you like to play. If that means a small number of teams and wide open free agent wires, have at it.

Just have fun.

Preemptive strike in Tampa...

The Lakers are still terrible.

I find it fascinating the most powerful player in the league and the one person with more control over the front office than any player in recent memory apparently has nothing to do with the struggles. That's amazing.

I have an answer, though...

Football players are tough.

But not that tough.

And about those uniforms...

Play of the game for Jacksonville...

Meanwhile...

Justin Fields was too athletic for his own good here...

The 2022 Las Vegas Raiders.

Truth here:

This.

Jameis Winston is a real one.

Minnesota legend Jared Allen was inducted into the Vikings Ring Of Honor. He made his entrance riding a horse.

To the surprise of absolutely no one.

And what a great photo from Brad Rempel.

Referee Call Of The Week:

Confirmed: Christian McCaffrey is good at football.

More:

Thanks to Clayton Gray for that one.

There are compliments.

And then there are compliments with Patrick Mahomes II calling your pass the "best throw of the year."

This was tricky and all. But I don't think I'm a fan. Just difficult to get enough force this way to make it tough to handle.

How does this happen?

I miss on plenty of players each year. I definitely missed Geno Smith. Wow.

I'm not sure what it is. But whether it's Patrick Mahomes II or Josh Allen, elite quarterbacks at the goal line and short passes are something else.

I don't know what you do with this.

I felt this one a little too much.

I still can't believe this.

The video.

I don't do much NASCAR here, but this is as Random Shotsy as it gets.

Ross Chastain pulled a video game move in Sunday's race. As you may know, the cars today have so much power, traction is a huge issue. Drivers have to back off the throttle on a track like Martinsville that doesn't have a giant banked angle in the turns. Most of the drivers stay in 3rd or 4th gear. On the final lap, Chastain said, "why not" and dropped his car into 5th gear and went full throttle with the retaining wall holding him on the track. Incredible.

NASCAR may have the Dukes of Hazard reputation with some, but it's more about science and engineering than good old boys. Here's an interesting article from Road and Track on the telemetry for Chastain's wild finish.

I still can't believe Randy Moss convinced Bill Belichick to attend the team's Halloween party. This is a masterclass in salesmanship.

Let's slow that roll on Tony Pollard just a bit...

It's World Series Time!

Taylor Heinicke: 4th Quarter Guy.

Guilty.

It's ok to watch Red Zone. But make sure you get off the couch on the other days of the week.

Injured center Ryan Jenkins wanted no part of this...

For the folks that said the game had passed him by, Pete Caroll would like a word.

Shannon Sharpe was on a roll.

So good.

Wrapping with this one.

With the score tied 10-10 in the third quarter, Tyler Lockett dropped a perfect pass from Geno Smith that would've been a sure touchdown.

How did Pete Carroll and Geno Smith react?

Caroll:

Smith:

You know what happened later in the 4th quarter with the score tied 13-13:

Once again, I think football is a metaphor for life. I will not be throwing or catching any touchdown passes in the NFL. I'm going to guess you're probably with me there.

But I am regularly presented with people in my circle who make mistakes.

And like Geno Smith and Pete Carroll, I have some ability to influence how that person moves forward.

This week, my challenge to you (and myself) is to be like Geno Smith and Pete Carroll in lifting up and encouraging folks. I'm convinced it's a better way to live.

Thank you for being part of this goofy journey with us.

And thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Sigmund Bloom, Dave Kluge, and Clayton Gray for the help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
