Random Shots From Week 3

Joe Bryant's Random Shots From Week 3 Joe Bryant Published 09/28/2022

Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys, with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, and it's a few pages of me downloading my brain that gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now let's get to it.

J

First things first.

Prayers for all the folks affected by the hurricane and storms in Florida. I love Football season, but I hate Hurricane season. Hang in there and pull together. I pray you're able to stay safe and secure.

Much love for y'all.

We've found our forever action photo for the Random Shots header. This was too easy with the Butt Punt.

Plus, a shoutout to our friends at PixelNFL for this beauty too.

If a fantasy football season were nine seconds like this video, we're about one and a half seconds in. So far, feels accurate.

Make sure to have the sound on.

Life moves pretty fast.

Week 2 Jimmy Garoppolo was the returning hero.

Week 3 Jimmy Garoppolo was doing the Dan Orlovsky endzone safety thing, then telling his coach all his plays suck.

More of this. Last week I wrote how the hapless Colts were set to face the mighty Chiefs saying:

Lord Have Mercy.

The first touchdown from any team Sunday was, of course, by the Colts.

Final score Sunday: Indianapolis 20 - Kansas City 17.

This game will keep you humble.

Music Note of the week is Charlie Parr. Someone described him as "everything you need in a tried-and-true bluesman—a little old, a little wiry, a little grouchy, and packing just enough lyrical wit to make it all work."

I'm down with that. Here's his "1922 Blues".

May you approach your job with the same energy these folks called the Mayfield to Laviska touchdown in Spanish.

"Laviska!, Hasta La Vista!"

Thanks to Jake Bryant for that one.

Take it easy on the mascot—good gracious.

I'm an NFL guy. But I love the college game as well.

If they gave points for pregame style, every team with Justin Jefferson would have won last week.

(Narrator Voice: "Your league does not give points for pregame style.")

Why did the Eagles have their Chief Security Officer holding onto the railing at FedEx field?

Because this happened the last time Jalen Hurts was in the stadium.

The League had better be careful here. NFL linemen playing Dodgeball could be more popular than the football games.

Thanks to Sigmund Bloom for that one.

Sister Jean still has it.

I don't know how Gabe Davis kept from catching five touchdowns with these...

Houston at Chicago being called the "Lovie Smith Invitational" was one of my favorite things of the day.

"Sharing his opinion" is one way to describe Quinnen Williams Sunday...

My favorite clip of Williams is his blessing and thanking himself after a sneeze.

Who says they don't play baseball in the rain?

Marketing Department reaching deep on New Orleans vs Carolina calling it "Heisman v.Heisman".

This seems sub-optimal.

Just like we all expected.

What a wild ending for the Buffalo - Miami game.

And you've undoubtedly seen offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey's reaction in the coach's box.

The internet did what the internet does, calling him "CRAZY" or worse. People love to get their popcorn out when someone has a meltdown.

Tom Brady is "competitive" when he throws a tablet down on the sideline, but Dorsey is a "psycho" when he does something similar, but with a bit more flair, in the booth. That's what winning a bunch of Super Bowl rings will do.

Like most things, we make more of it than necessary. And without question, the players loved the passion. I don't want a guy destroying things every time something goes wrong. But I didn't mind Dorsey's reaction at all. I've been there a few times.

Colt McCoy feels the pain...

Definitely a Footballguy.

Sometimes, the video is enough.

Footballguys Favorite Jamaal Williams went full Hingle McCringleberry, living up to his SwagDaddy Twitter handle.

Here's the original from Key and Peele.

Thanks to Jeff Walker for that one.

Skill matters, of course. But sometimes, it's just physics.

You know he loved this.

Mark Sanchez had thoughts on the Butt Punt.

You knew someone would do this...

I'm with my friend Craig Lakins: Are we sure James Robinson had a torn Achilles?

Andy Knows.

Truth.

I'll have to think about it, but I think the answer is "no."

Dropping this here without comment from my friend Scott...

When I think of a football coach, I think of this from Deion Sanders. This is leadership 101. Setting clear expectations for his players as they head into some time off.

“I don’t want anybody to go to jail,” Coach Sanders said. “I don’t want nobody to do something stupid, I don’t want nobody to get somebody pregnant, I don’t want nobody to put they hands on somebody they shouldn’t be putting their hands on, and I don’t want nobody taking nothing that ain’t yours.”

To close things out, Sanders reminded his team what he reminds them every day.

“Be smart, tough, fast, and disciplined— with character.”

If you know me, you know one of my primary tenets in sports (and life) is "Look Good / Play Good."

With that said, I've no idea how Appalachian State lost Saturday with the "Yosef" helmets. Easily a Top 5 All-Time college uniform.

Ryan Clark remembers...

Lamb grabbing his phone back from his girlfriend on Draft Night in 2020 is a classic.

Sometimes it just all works out in the end...

Definitely a Footballguy.

Wrapping with this.

I missed Week 3 of Random Shots last year as I was having my butt kicked by COVID. It was the shortest Random Shots ever.

I got well and was able to make it to my son's wedding. But our good friend and colleague Mike Tagliere was not as lucky. It's been a year since we lost Mike, and sometimes that feels like last week and sometimes like forever ago.

The good folks at FantasyPros did a lovely tribute earlier this summer here. I was honored to be a tiny part of it.

The Fantasy Football Community has been wonderfully supportive of Mike's family. If you'd like to help, please consider the GoFundMe here.

We miss you, Buddy. Thank you for showing us the way.

Thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Jake Bryant, Jeff Walker, Sigmund Bloom, and Clayton Gray for help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
