Know Your Opposition
If you want to finish at the top of the standings in a mid-to-large field GPP, your roster has to stand out from the crowd. Studying a list of projected roster percentages is a helpful first step, but it lacks the context of how the most popular players fit together under the salary cap.
To gain some insight into how the majority of entrants will allocate their cap space, so you can spend yours differently, let’s think about how the public is most likely to attack roster construction at each position.
Slate Overview- Difficult Week Creates Opportunity
This week may be the most difficult week of the season, but a perfect opportunity for GPP’s. At the moment, there is only one team that is projected to score 30 points which is the Kansas City Chiefs and only three teams that are projected to score above 25 points which is the lowest on the season.
This week is a GPP players dream week. Naturally, only so many names can be brought up through projections, optimizers, podcasts, articles across the industry, so inherently there are biases that draw towards certain players when in reality the difference between a lot of these teams outside of the Chiefs is incredibly minimal. There will be games that are ugly that exceed expectations just as there are every single week, so target some teams that almost no one is talking about. These are the teams that are not going to have that $4k receiver that everyone loves, but instead you may have
Potential Under the Radar Teams
- Cleveland Browns
- Denver Broncos
- Houston Texans Passing Game (Brandin Cooks)
- Minnesota Vikings
- Dallas vs Green Bay
- LA Rams
Potential teams that are highly rostered
- Detroit Passing Game (Amon-Ra St. Brown)
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Pittsburgh Steelers
One thing to note, it’s ok to take some players from the over popular teams, and it’s ok to even game stack them if you’re confident in them. However, just know that based on roster percentages, these are going to be the higher rostered teams in a given week.
