Scouting Report

Noah Short played both sides of the ball in high school at The King's Academy before entering the United States Military Academy via the USMAPS pipeline. In his freshman year at West Point, he played exclusively on defense and special teams. As a sophomore, the team started experimenting with him as a receiver. By his junior and senior seasons, he was deployed as a primary offensive weapon, becoming the first player in Army history to log 1,000 career rushing and receiving yards.

Short developed into the team's primary slot back. Short's history on defense gives him a natural understanding of leverage. His instinctual running style allows him to turn small gains into chunk plays. He's a natural receiver, gaining separation with tempo and awareness rather than pure burst, showing aggressive hands at the catch point. The Army's heavy misdirection and option-based looks frequently manufacture space he won't be given in a pro offense. He's an upright runner with a lean frame and doesn't have elite strength between the tackles. Short projects best as a situational weapon for a creative staff willing to move him around, but his tweener build and scheme-dependent production make a consistent NFL role difficult to project.

Rundown

Short thrived in the Army's slotback role, but his path to NFL relevance likely requires a creative offense willing to scheme him touches.
