Scouting Report

Leshon Williams began his collegiate career at Iowa, where he redshirted his first season and gradually worked into a rotational role in the Hawkeyes' backfield. Williams played in 32 games over his four years at Iowa, with his 2023 junior season standing out as his best. Injuries marred his 2024 campaign, and he entered the transfer portal after that season. At Kansas, Williams split the backfield with Daniel Hishaw Jr., but Williams averaged more yards per carry and scored more touchdowns, developing as the season progressed.

Williams is a downhill one-cut runner. Although he consistently falls forward through contact, he doesn't break tackles in a way that leads to explosive after-contact gains. He runs through defenders without any intention of avoiding them. As a receiver, Williams was limited to checkdown work and the occasional wheel route, but his hands are an underrated part of his game. What he brings in power, vision, and patience, he lacks in burst. He'd regularly get to the secondary only to be chased down in pursuit. Williams does a lot of things coaches will like, but his lack of speed will likely keep him in a backfield committee.

Rundown

Williams is a compact runner with a strong lower body, but concerns about his second gear will make it tough to depend on him as an every-down back.
