Scouting Report

Carnell Tate has often been viewed as "the other wide receiver" at Ohio State. In his three seasons, he has played opposite Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Jeremiah Smith. But on most any other team, Tate would have been viewed as a superstar. He was an elite-level five-star recruit and the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2023 class. He solidified himself opposite Smith in 2025, posting massive games in the middle of the season before an injury limited him down the stretch. Tate overcame a tough background growing up in Chicago and losing his mother in a shooting before his freshman season.

Tate offers excellent length and excels at playing the ball downfield. He offers a counterpunch off that vertical threat, with comfort in working back to the quarterback in the intermediate game. He rounds that package with a smooth after-the-catch ability that allows him to contribute in the quick game. Any concerns about playing as a secondary receiver should be mitigated with Ohio State's proven track record of receiver development. Tate is a lock as a first-round pick and has a chance to be the first receiver off the board.

Rundown

Tate is a smooth athlete who offers excellent downfield receiving ability. Ohio State's coaching staff has proven it can develop NFL wide receivers, and Tate should continue that trend.
