Welcome to the first installment of Dynasty Stashes. Follow the Footballguys staff as they discuss players who may or may not be worth targeting in your dynasty leagues. These players should be fairly affordable now but could pay big dividends in the future.
Let's start with the quarterback position. We asked our staff about three young quarterbacks. Bryce Young, Will Levis, and Bo Nix are potential values in Superflex dynasty formats. They could also be traps. Plant your flag on a player you are still buying.
Dynasty Stash: Bryce Young, Carolina
Chad Parsons - Being patient with 1.01-drafted quarterbacks is a sound historical strategy. Bryce Young fits the bill, considering the Panthers' investment in offensive line improvements, plus adding Diontae Johnson, Xavier Legette, and Ja'Tavion Sanders to his weaponry. Even finishing in the mid-teens of the position this year would be a marked improvement for Young and his rising dynasty valuation.
Ryan Weisse - I'll take the former first-overall pick out of this grouping every time. Bryce Young struggled as a rookie, but it's not like the Panthers had a playoff-caliber team surrounding him. His best receiver was 33-year-old Adam Thielen, and his offensive line woes were an issue from the first preseason game. The team invested heavily in the offensive line and added Diontae Johnson, Xavier Legette, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and Jonathon Brooks during the offseason. Young could break out in a big way in year 2.
Corey Spala - I am trying to acquire Bryce Young. Dave Canales will look to revamp Young similarly to his improvements with Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. We cannot ignore Carolina's investment in the offensive line and offensive weapons from free agency and the NFL Draft. Young's rookie season was not impressive; I am not sure how much blame he should have individually while in the environment he was in. I am trying to acquire low on the former first-overall pick in hopes a better team environment, from the coaching staff to the players, will help the potential franchise quarterback improve individually.
Hutchinson Brown - Out of these three options, I would bet on Bryce Young. After a disastrous rookie season, I understand why betting against him is a wise choice. However, I would go with Young when comparing him to Will Levis or Bo Nix. He easily has the most draft capital to his name out of the three players and has much potential in this new offense with Dave Canales, who has shown to be a quarterback whisperer over the last few years. Levis and Nix also have upside, but based on my analysis and the draft capital attached to their names, these two have more major problems as prospects compared to Young, who in college seemed to be a much more NFL-ready player.
Dan Hindery - Bryce Young is still worth buying if the price is right. We saw Trevor Lawrence struggle mightily as a rookie in a chaotic environment. The Panthers were a mess last year but seem in a better place with Dave Canales hired to get Young's career back on track. While I am not overly optimistic Young will ever be a fantasy QB1, I think he has a good shot at improving enough, at least, to feel good about his chances of holding down the starting job for the Panthers for many years to come.
