This year might be the last to land Ferguson at a reasonable price. He finished in the Top 10 last year and should be the second or third option in the Dallas offense yet again. Selling Engram after his 2023 is an easy choice. Teams that don't currently have a top-5 tight end should pay well for a guy with back-to-back top-5 seasons. With all the unknowns surrounding Njoku, you have to hold. Nobody knows what he'll be with Deshaun Watson full-time. If he's as good as last year, you don't want to sell cheap now.

I want to buy Evan Engram due to his involvement in the Jaguars offense and the potential upside he has specifically for this season. Last year, Trevor Lawrence got extremely unlucky with passing touchdowns. His receivers had many drops or missed opportunities that would have resulted in touchdowns if the receiver had just made the play. As a result, Engram struggled in the touchdown department, scoring four times on 114 receptions. Engram is a downfield threat that wasn't used that way enough last year. Engram had his all-time low by a wide margin when looking at the percentage of his targets that traveled ten or more air yards this past season. His speed is an asset that allows him to work downfield, and given the rumors and reports going around Jacksonville, Engram could get that going more this season. So, if regression swings his way this season, Engram could score more touchdowns and elevate his deep ball involvement in the offense, and that would likely give us a significant improvement from his already stellar 2023 season.

I want to sell David Njoku because I fear what Deshaun Watson will do to him for fantasy. Not only has this new era of Deshaun Watson proven not to give us good quarterback play, but throughout his entire career, he has never given us greatness at the tight end position for fantasy. The same David Njoku that finished this past season with four straight games as a top-three tight end hasn't even broken 60 yards in any of his games with Watson as the starter for the Browns since he took over in 2022. These numbers make me extremely hesitant to value Njoku as a great tight end option, as many dynasty managers do.

I want to hold Jake Ferguson in Dynasty because his athleticism at the tight end position is relatively undervalued. Most don't think of him as an athlete, but Ferguson was in the top five in both yards after contact per reception and in missed tackles forced among all tight ends, with 40 or more targets last year, per PFF Metrics. The Cowboys have CeeDee Lamb as their number-one target this year, and we all know that, but Jake Ferguson is the next man up in terms of targets, just like last year. I expect him to continue to get opportunities and do well with them, and as a result, continue to be a solid fantasy football presence at the tight end position.

How valuable Ferguson is depends on what happens with higher draft pick Luke Schoonmaker in his second year. Ferguson has a year's advantage over him, and he took a great head start by recording 70 catches and a top-10 fantasy finish. If he holds off Schoonnmaker this year, he will be a force for years. If not, bad luck. That's fantasy football.

After an uneven start to his career, Njoku has been consistent over the last two seasons and has been a pleasant surprise for the Browns, who saw something before giving him a lucrative extension. His age indicates he still has two to three years at an elite level.

The problem with keeping Engram is that he will hit 30 early in the season. He should extract the maximum value from the consecutive top-six fantasy finishes right now. Engram still has the best year of these three guys, but the dropoff will be sharp.

I wouldn't characterize any of these tight ends as high-value assets, but it's a coin toss between Engram and Njoku for the most valuable. Njoku is the more explosive and athletic player, but he's been highly volatile, plays on a defense-first team, and has the Deshaun Watson risk. Engram is a 100-catch safety valve with a well-established and productive rapport with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Ferguson is just a guy and could be easily replaced or, worse yet, playing on a Dallas team without Dak Prescott next season.

An influx in wide receiver depth in Jacksonville creates an opportunity to find stability at the tight end position. Evan Engram has a secure role in the offense and has averaged 120.5 targets per season with Jacksonville. I see no reason why Engram should not continue in 2024. his dominant 2023 season: finishing as the TE2 (PPR) and totaling 114 receptions. He is under contract through the 2026 season.

Jake Ferguson may have a similar 2024 season (TE9), if not better. Ferguson could claim the number two target in the Dallas offense. Looking long-term, Dallas still needs to be committed to Dak Prescott. The uncertainty within the offense's structure and the likelihood of finding a wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb (in 2025) make me want to capitalize on Ferguson's elevated value. Specifically, I would sell Ferguson on teams where I am comfortable in the tight-end position.

Cleveland has brought in wide receivers to support Deshaun Watson. The Elijah Moore experiment failed; we will see if the Jerry Jeudy one exceeds. David Njoku has been consistently improving and has seen an increased involvement in the offense over his career. Cleveland has a new offensive coordinator, and Njoku has labeled it “juicy.” Njoku will need to win the second target in the offense (against Jeudy) while the new offense is scheming to him, too.

I'm buying Engram, selling Njoku, and holding Ferguson. Engram revived his career after working with my guy Drew Lieberman, a receiver coach who has worked with Dontayvion Wicks, Julian Edelman, and Brandon Aiyuk. I credit Lieberman's technique breakdowns at the Sideline Hustle (on YouTube) as instrumental criteria for the Rookie Scouting Portfolios evaluations for receivers and tight ends during the past 4-5 years. Engam has figured out how to attack the ball with optimal technique. It has translated to consecutive strong years in Jacksonville.

Njoku had a career year in 2023 with receptions (81), yards (882), and touchdowns (6). Much of that love came from Joe Flacco's Weeks 13-17 starts. Those weeks accounted for only 29 percent of the football season, but it accounted for 37 percent of Njoku's receptions, 44 percent of his yardage, and 66.7 percent of his touchdowns.

While open to Deshaun Watson returning to his form with the Texans and supporting Njoku as a fantasy TE1, so much of Njoku's 2023 production was "Flacco-inflated" that it makes him the most appealing option to sell of the three tight ends mentioned.

Ferguson is a reasonable hold. Dak Prescott is the best quarterback associated with these three tight ends. Michael Gallup is gone, and Luke Schoonmaker must get healthy and needs time to develop. Ferguson could be the third-most productive receiving option for the Cowboys this year. He's a good zone option, and Prescott has displayed strong rapport with his tight ends.

  • Buy: David Njoku
  • Hold: Evan Engram
  • Sell: Jake Ferguson

Our staff has done a fantastic job laying out the case for selling David Njoku. That is precisely why I am buying. Njoku emerged as a difference-maker down the stretch. That could be attributed to Joe Flacco or the lack of other options. It could also be attributed to the athletic tight ends of Njoku's profile, which traditionally took a while to click in the league, and the team finally figuring out how to unlock his ability. I am in on a player with an elite upside in a high-end offense with a Top 6 season under his belt.

Engram is a hold, coming off a great season, but the community seems down on Trevor Lawrence and his age.

Ferguson is a sell. He holds the highest value in the group, and as the youngest, that is not a surprise. His production window should not dramatically differ from Njoku's. Outside of a bit more touchdown luck, I see the argument of the 2023 campaign hitting his ceiling. The result was a back-end TE1 campaign far off the position's top. There are paths to falling short of that, either Luke Schoonmaker developing and splitting the production or a significant complimentary receiver to CeeDee Lamb being added to the roster.
