Random Shots From Week 7

Joe Bryant's Random Shots From Week 7 Joe Bryant Published 10/26/2022

Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys, with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, and it's a few pages of me downloading my brain that gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to Football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now let's get to it.

J

If a fantasy football season were nine seconds like this video, we're about three and half seconds in. So far, feels accurate.

Make sure to have the sound on.

It's almost time...

I don't know about "greatest ever," but there could be a LOT of movement for running backs this offseason. And I'm here for it. I love the energy new players on teams bring. And the ups and downs. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, and trying to predict is fun.

It can be a beautiful game.

I'm with Footballism. Need some answers here...

I'm guessing this was a joke. But anyone who did not vote for Tampa Bay is someone to keep an eye on... ;)

I'm an optimist.

I think it's the best way to live.

As someone who drafted Julio Jones and Michael Thomas, it might not be the best way to play fantasy football.

My friend Jeff speaking that Dad Life Truth.

Like most macho super-bro lines, this one was cool until it wasn't.

At this point, it feels like this is his destiny...

Thanks to Keith Overton for that one.

Fun 5-minute video from ESPN Sunday. Did the historic 1972 Dolphins have a little help?

More old stuff. Coaches in the '90s were crushing it.

More comeback tweets this weekend.

Lane Kiffin (and, to be fair, lots of others) ripped LSU coach Brian Kelly for the hype video.

Kelly with a sweet shirt and comeback after his LSU Tigers beat Kiffin and Ole Miss.

I know it's the standard shtick but maybe dial back the obligatory "I'm one of the best in the game" line when talking about dropping a sure TD pass.

In a world where Offense rules, it's fun to see Defense shine.

The Giants with a great play here and the game-winning tackle.

Physics plays a role as well. Here's a similar play but with 250-pound Travis Kelce.

I feel kind of bad for Russell Wilson.

Kind of.

I feel sick for Broncos fans.

What is it about NFL mascots blowing up little kids?

Hot Mics and State Fair Corndogs are a troublesome combination...

Jason Kelce is not impressed with the game-day fits...

Thanks to Dave Kluge for that one.

Bill Belichick is a national treasure.

We should have listened to him last week as he tried to tell us how good the Bears were.

When linebackers dream...

Patriots QB Bailey Zappe did what any 23-year-old would do when "Stacey's Mom" came on the stadium sound system: Sing along.

You may know the song is by Fountains of Wayne. And that leads to the music note this week. "Stacy's Mom" is popular, but "All Kinds Of Time" is by far my favorite song from them. Here's the full version. But it's even better as a commercial set to classic NFL images.

Why this doesn't have a zillion likes is a mystery to me. This might be my favorite video ever.

Davante Adams wasn't taking any chances this week.

Yankee fans for years mocked Pedro Martinez with chants of "Who's Your Daddy?"

After the Astros destroyed New York with a four-game sweep, he had fun with Yankee Fans.

The NBA Season just kicked off, and already the Lakers and Lebron James are terrible.

That's a shame.

This is how you know when someone just hates Aaron Rodgers.

Montez Sweat is 260 pounds. I'm not sure what folks expected here.

Raiders owner Mark Davis is building a full-on Super Villain Lair, and it's fantastic.

I think it's fair to say we collectively owe Pete Carroll an apology for "holding Russell Wilson back" all these years.

Halloween Prank Time.

Peyton Manning was disappointed the Bears took a knee at the end. "If you have a chance to score 40 in Foxborough, you score 40 in Foxborough."

The NFL is about finding your quarterback.

And that's really hard.

We teach our kids to be honest...

Y'all just keep acting like the announcer jinx isn't real...

Brian Daboll and Giants fans living their best lives.

In honor of the World Series, I'll wrap with one of my favorite baseball stories. And one I tell here often.

Heading into the last day, a doubleheader, of the 1941 baseball season, 23-year-old Ted Williams' batting average was .39955. He could have sat out the meaningless last two games of the last day, and his average would have rounded to the hallowed .400 mark.

From the sabr.org article: "In his autobiography, My Turn At Bat, Williams recalls Joe Cronin telling him, 'You don’t have to be put in if you don’t want to. You’re officially .400.' Ted reports his reaction: 'Well, God, that hit me like a ***damn lightning bolt! What do you mean I don’t have to play today?'"

But you probably know the story. Williams put his .400 mark at risk and played. Both games. And went 6 for 8, finishing the year at .406.

That's badass.

How that applies to you and me is simple. I feel pretty safe in saying we're not going to hit .400 in the majors. But we all get to walk to the plate every day and take some swings. Take yours.

Thank you for being part of this goofy journey with us.

And thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Sigmund Bloom, Dave Kluge, and Clayton Gray for help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
