IDP Dynasty Stock Market Week 9

Matt Montgomery's IDP Dynasty Stock Market Week 9 Matt Montgomery Published 11/01/2022

Are you still in it? Is your team sitting atop the mountain, waiting for a contender to emerge to challenge you for the ultimate fake football prize? Or are you in shambles, looking forward to September 2023 when you can begin your journey again? Dynasty fantasy football is a year-round game. The results are tracked from September-December, but the real work is put in when no one else is watching. Free agent periods, drafts, tag processes for those who really dive deep, and much much more. One thing remains the same, leagues change when people are engaged in what is happening. You have to see who is doing what! If you’re late, it may be the difference between ultimate glory or anguishing defeat… We have 20 more players to keep an eye on, divided into tiers that closely associate with where they are trending. It’s up to you to make the move!

High Dollar Stocks Trending Up

LB Roquan Smith: Nobody needs to panic about this trade. It’s simple, good players score points regardless of team. The compensation the Ravens gave up to acquire Smith means he will be heavily involved in the defensive plans and ultimately will continue to score points. This is good for him, especially if he signs long-term. The only criticism that should be warranted is the lack of production from this position on the team this year. This should be solved, though, with this move.

DE Myles Garrett: The scariest monster of Halloween this year was Garrett on Monday Night Football against the Bengals’ offensive line. He’s just an absolute beast when he’s on the field. Everyone knows he’s their defense’s best player, but few can neutralize him for extended periods. He’s absolutely the league’s best defensive lineman, not named Maxx Crosby, and should be treated as such. One final note: he is 26 years old and showing no signs of a dip in his production.

LB Pete Werner: Seventy-one total tackles means he’s averaging just under nine a game, and the fact is this is his first full-time action. He is likely the #1 dynasty prospect moving forward and is far and away exceeding expectations to this point. He is pacing over 140 tackles on the year, and if he compiles any other statistics, he should even challenge for the top five at his position this year. Either way, you can’t do much better with production vs age than you do with Werner currently.

LB Foye Oluokun: He should be your case study as a Roquan Smith manager. Now, I will say in the short term, Jacksonville has always shown the capability to support great linebacker scoring, which is what we have seen from Oluokun this year. Changing teams does sometimes work for the player, and Oluokun, while he likely isn’t LB1 from last year, still has a shot to finish in the top 3 this season. Ultimately, your philosophy on situations like this should be “good players are good regardless of team.” He’s been good through eight weeks and will be good to finish this year.

LB Micah Parsons: After being on the trending down list, Parsons had a monster game that included a touchdown. He was a bit inconsistent to begin the year, and as an outside linebacker who almost feels positionless at times, it’s hard to project his week-to-week viability. What can’t be disputed is the pure talent he has and the boom/bust potential there. The boom this year has heavily outweighed the bust, but it is important to note that he has risk. Regardless, he’s been good these past two weeks, and this should be made note of.

High Dollar Stocks Trending Down

LB Devin Lloyd: There’s no way to sugarcoat this, but Lloyd has completely flatlined since Week 4. Since that game, his production has fallen in each game consecutively. This could be in part to the season his teammate Foye Oluokun is having, or could just be his rookie year catching up to him, but the matter remains the same, this is not ideal. There’s no need to panic just yet, but it's become time to start more consistent options at linebacker if you have them.

LB DeVondre Campbell: It may just be the disappointment of the Packers’ defense overall, but Campbell has become a boom/bust player this season. He has scored double-digit points in only three games this year and scored over 1/3 of his season total last week. It may be time to look for a potential trade partner or utilize him more as depth at this point. He was a STUD last year with 145 total tackles, but this year is trending to miss that mark by 20+. He is still valuable and shouldn’t be traded off for less than he’s worth, but the longer you wait, the harder the trade may be.

DE Deatrich Wise: Flashback to Week 3, and you have yourself a DE1 who has produced 13 total tackles and four sacks. It feels great, especially considering the disparity in the position this year. Since Week 3 however, he’s produced 16 tackles and one sack. He also has only produced double-digit points in one game outside of the first three weeks. To put all the fear into one place, he’s a Patriot, and they’re notoriously hard to predict when it comes to playing time and fantasy viability. Hold for now, but if you’re a risk taker, he may be trade bait.

LB Demario Davis: All good things must come to an end. What is happening here is simple. His teammate Pete Werner is just a beast out there, and Davis is compiling fewer stats due to this. He’s aging and isn’t a long-term dynasty hold, but he could likely be added to your team at a good value to provide depth for a win-now scenario. Managers likely would let him walk for a decent price but not one that breaks down your future.

DE Von Miller: This is what you’re going to get from Miller moving forward. He’s less injured but garners the same production as J.J. Watt. The long-term deal is great if you’re looking to hold him, but I wouldn’t be so sure that you’re getting anything worth what you likely spent to acquire him. He’s a surefire hall of famer who deserves his flowers, but as far as fantasy viability, look elsewhere than just a big name on your team.

Middle of the Pack Trending Up

LB Leighton Vander Esch: We’ve come into an interesting time in the career of Vander Esch. We’ve seen the insane productions he’s capable of producing, but a lot like his former teammate and IDP legend Sean Lee, he’s oft too injured to depend on. In leagues, he’s been on and off the wire, but this needs to change. Get him and hold him. He’s young, has a proven record of producing when healthy, and isn’t having a bad season so far. One thing that needs to be noted is that he’s a very valuable player at his current status within fantasy circles.

LB Bobby Okereke: This was a pivotal week to track Okereke due to the return of stud linebacker Shaquille Leonard. He still produced eight total tackles, which is enough for us to cool down on the panic of what will happen upon Leonard’s return. This will be important to monitor moving forward, but the immediate short term should have managers at least comforted that he wasn’t immediately replaced or saw significant dips in production.

DT Grover Stewart: In the surprise of the season, Stewart is currently tied for first with Maxx Crosby in tackles from a defensive lineman. This is a crazy trend and one that is showing no signs of slowing. Grab him in any league he’s available, or trade for him before others realize who they have. He is a little older than we would like as a long-term asset, but he is for sure worth rostering and, frankly, starting in all formats this year. He’s outperforming many people at his position and isn’t rostered in nearly enough leagues.

LB Tremaine Edmunds: Not as dominating as maybe most managers would like, Edmunds isn’t having a bad year either. He has missed a game due to injury, but in the games he has played, only two have been less than double-digits. He’s still considered ascending, being he’s only 24 years old and is probably being negatively spotlighted due to the recent dip in production. I think he’s a good candidate to trade for that you could get long-term value out of. He’s still good, and managers need not panic that he isn’t hitting those monster numbers just yet. There’s plenty of season left.

DE Sam Hubbard: After three straight double-digit performances, it’s time we mention that Hubbard is the DE to have in Cincinnati this year. He’s outperformed his counterpart Trey Hendrickson by over 20 points and 15 tackles. This seems to be a significant difference this year vs last in terms of production, but managers need to be aware of it. He’s a good player producing good stats and should be rostered everywhere and likely starting week-to-week.

Penny Stocks with a Chance

LB Divine Deablo: Alright, if he’s still on your waivers, grab him now. It remains to be seen if this is his job long-term, but my word is that in the immediate short-term, he is an absolute gem in IDP. He has quietly produced one of the best tackling seasons this year and was available most of this season on waivers. There’s an opportunity that we could be seeing a passing of the torch in Vegas at linebacker with Deablo.

S Jaquan Brisker: A rookie safety isn’t your first selection as a needle mover, but when the Bears’ defense has traded away most of their star performers, you need to grab the ones who already have made noise. Brisker has had a good start to his career and has seen his production increase consecutively from Week 4 on. He is playing alongside one of the best in the biz Eddie Jackson and is producing almost at the same insane pace. Look for more of the same moving forward from the promising rookie.

LB Jack Sanborn: So there is some unknown here, but the immediate depth chart change, and barring no free agent moves or trades, Sanborn could be the beneficiary of the Smith trade to Baltimore. He had a good preseason but hasn’t yet had the opportunity to showcase a full workload in the NFL. This could change this week and moving forward. If you can get him cheap, why not stash him and see? The EPITOME of a penny stock.

LB Christian Harris: It was to be seen who would capitalize on the opportunity at linebacker with the news of the team waiving linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, and this past week, Harris was the beneficiary. Rookie linebackers are always lauded as great assets, and if you can get one who hasn’t produced just yet for cheap, the upside can’t be greater. The Texans have shown us the ability to produce credible and league-winning linebacker production, and this is immediately the highest floor we’ve seen in Harris’ short career. Get him while you can.

DE Boye Mafe: Another rookie, Mafe has had a good year, but no one has really talked about it. One thing that is necessary for any rookie to be relevant on your team is eliminating zero-point games. Mafe may not win you every week, but starting him doesn’t lose you games, and that’s the ultimate depth acquisition point. He has 25 tackles and two sacks as a rookie so far. This is trending to the 50+ tackle range and close to 5 sacks. As a rookie, that is a solid stat line that would beat many others at his same position.

So, we have lots of rookies, ascending talent, and old names that may be on their last legs. The NFL deadline was this week, so yours as a fantasy manager is fast approaching.
