IDL and Edge Streaming Matchups, Week 7

Joseph Haggan's IDL and Edge Streaming Matchups, Week 7 Joseph Haggan Published 10/19/2022

It was a bit of a rough week streaming the defensive line matchups for Week 6. At the Edge position, Leonard Floyd and Travon Walker were the streamers of the week. Oddly enough, they finished with the exact same stat line. Unfortunately, it was not a good one. The two finished with four total tackles a piece, though only one solo tackle each. The weekly IDL streamers were Sebastian Joseph-Day and Osa Odighizuwa. Joseph-Day finished Week 6 with a lackluster two tackles, with one being solo. Though the Cowboys did create four sacks, they were pressure off the edge as Odighizuwa only registered one solo tackle on the day.

The Edge sleeper was the only hit of the week. Efe Obada was matched up with the Bears and he was fantastic. He once again outplayed James Smith-Williams in the absence of Chase Young. Obada produced four tackles (two solos), one tackle for a loss, a sack, and one pass defended. The IDL sleeper was Kevin Givens of the 49ers. It was yet again a swing and a miss on the week as he registered just a single solo tackle. They are some really nice matchups for Week 7, so hopefully, it plays out better. Here are the top Edge and IDL streaming options for Week 7.

Week 7 IDL and Edge Streaming Options

Edge Deatrich Wise Jr, New England Patriots

Matchup: Chicago Bears - Ranked 23rd in Matt Bitonti's Rankings

If you are not in on Deatrich Wise yet, than it is definitely time to be. Wise is IDP's version of a Davante Parker Year-six breakout. He has been quite pedestrian since his rookie season, though he has been on fire in 2022. His is averaging over four tackles per game, providing a strong tackle floor for an Edge defender while also tacking on five sacks in the first six games. Wise Jr. has truly added to his pass-rush arsenal with great ability to sell his rush as he does here.

His snap share is massive, playing 84.67% of the team's defensive snaps this season. He has a stranglehold on the Edge spot across from Matt Judon. Wise Jr. takes on the Bears in Week 7. Their offensive line has been one of the worst of 2022. They are tied for 1st in sacks allowed with 23. Wise and Judon should have a menacing Week 7.

Edge Chandler Jones, Las Vegas Raiders

Matchup: Houston Texans - Ranked 12th in Matt Bitonti's RAnkings

Chandler Jones' play has dropped off severely since joining the Raiders. The good news is that he showed some signs of life before their bye week. In his Week 5 matchup, he accrued four tackles as well as four pressures, though could not hit home. He showcased his traditional pass-rush prowess and great ability to set the edge, which you can see here.

Jones has the luxury of playing across one of the league's premier pass-rushers in Maxx Crosby, who has racked up 22 pressures and six sacks in five games. This gives Jones a bit of breathing room, something he has rarely seen. Though the matchup with the Texans is not a no-brainer matchup to attack, Jones and Crosby will be fresh off a BYE. With the offense of the Texans still searching for its passing identity, the edge rushers could have a great day.

IDL Vita Vea, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Matchup: Carolina Panthers - Ranked 15th in Matt Bitonti's Rankings

Vita Vea has struggled with staying healthy during his short career, though has finally seen a strong snap-share in 2022. He has been present on 63.83% of the team's defensive snaps. Vea is currently boasting a solid 65.6 pass-rush grade which is actually the lowest of his career, which shows a good possibility for that to improve. Vea is an animal and incredibly strong. He is a pure body mover on the interior as you can see here.

Vea has shown his pass-rushing power this season in both Week 1 and Week 5. He has two sacks and eight pressures in those two games. Though the other three games have been a bit lackluster, Vea can definitely blow up and has a terrific Week 7 matchup. The Panthers have allowed the seventh-most sacks in the league with 19, and it is still unsure as to who the starting quarterback for the week is. Vea could use his strength to beat up the Panthers' offensive line.

IDL Jarran Reed, Green Bay Packers

Matchup: Washington Commanders - Ranked 28th in Matt Bitonti's Rankings

This is the second week Jarran Reed has made the streaming article. Mostly because he has not produced enough to be a weekly started, but is definitely a player you can use to exploit good matchups. His pass-rushing over the past two games has been very strong, with a PFF pass-rush grade of 70. Reed has seen plenty of playing time in his first season with the Packers, season a 69.3% snap-share. He has also provided a strong tackle floor, averaging just under four tackles per game. Reed showed his excellent hand usage and interior explosiveness with this strip-sack of Daniel Jones.

After seeing what Reed has done the past two weeks, Week 7 has the makings of a blow-up game. He takes on the Commanders, who have given up 23 sacks on the season, tied for most in the league. The Commanders will also be starting Taylor Heinicke, who was sacked 38 times in his 16 games played in 2021. His back may see the dirt often against a strong Packers pass rush.

Week 7 IDL and Edge Sleeper Options

Edge Arnold Ebiketie, Atlanta Falcons

Matchup: Cincinnati Bengals - Ranked 11th in Matt Bitonti's Rankings

Arnold Ebiketie's career has gotten off to a slow start with the Falcons. He only has one sack over his first six games. Ebiketie has shown signs of life, though, and does have significant volume. He has played on 55.16% of the team's defensive snaps, though his playing time spiked in Week 6 at 82% of snaps played. Though he has only recorded a single sack, Ebiketie has had games where he has been incredibly disruptive. In Weeks 4 and 6, Ebiketie totaled 11 pressures. Ebiketie has showcased some pretty pass-rush moves like this beautiful spin move.

He brings his talents to play the Bengals in Week 7. Though the Bengals' offensive line as a unit has played much better as of late, they are still tied for 2nd in the league in sacks allowed with 22. All you are looking for in a sleeper is one big play, and this matchup could allow Ebiketie to do just that.

IDL Teair Tart, Tennessee Titans

Matchup: Indianapolis Colts - Ranked 26th in Matt Bitonti's Rankings

Teair Tart remains off of everybody's radar. There has been zero buzz of his name at all across IDP communities. During Week 5, before the team's bye, Tart opened a couple of eyes, at least maybe two. He had three total tackles and two passes defended. The passes defended are notable. He has five over his past three games. These batted passes can create turnovers. In Week 4, he created his own after picking up the interception after getting his mitts on the football.

The passes defended are not the only bright spot in Tart's game, though. He is currently boasting a very strong 79.2 pass-rush grade per PFF. This pass-rush ability could prove very useful against a reeling Colts offensive line who have given up the 5th most sacks with 21, just two off of the league lead. Tart is easily on your waiver wire and could be a nice matchup play for Week 7.

Final Thoughts

After a lackluster of Week 6 streamers, these are some great deep options that could make a Week 7 impact. The matchups are very good, but what I like most about all of these options is that they are all players ascending on the season. Their play has improved throughout the season, and they could be in line for more playing time. Some of these players may become waiver targets with a couple more strong performances. This should help you get ahead of the curve. Good luck with all of your Week 7 matchups, and join me again next week to stream for Week 8.
