After a relatively quiet summer on the injury front, fantasy football saw the first plate tectonic moving misfortune befall Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. Prescott will miss 6-8 weeks. Whether you have Prescott or other key Cowboys or avoided this landmine completely, you should be thinking about how this injury will play into your team management actions leading up to Week 2.
If you have Dak Prescott in a 1QB league
How strong is the waiver wire group at quarterback?
Most of the top quarterbacks performed up to expectations in Week 1, so you won’t have too much competition for waiver wire quarterbacks. If the waiver wire includes two or more of these names:
You should be fine. Just don’t be too cheap with your bids. If the best names on the wire are Joe Flacco, Baker Mayfield, Davis Mills, and Ryan Tannehill, you might need to trade for a quarterback. Look to see if any of these names are a team’s QB2 and make an offer:
- Aaron Rodgers - starting offensive tackles will return soon
- Justin Fields/Trey Lance - prospects will improve in better conditions
- Kirk Cousins - a much bigger game was there if Green Bay was competitive, more of a buy high than buy low
Also, drop Prescott. There are signs that he might not be a fantasy QB1 when he returns anyway, and the opportunity cost of missing on waiver pickups is too much to justify holding him through his absence unless you are in a league where almost all backup quarterbacks are rostered.
