Consecutive seasons of Sam LaPorta and Brock Bowers allow fantasy managers to dream of a three-peat in drafting Tyler Warren. It has been challenging historically for a rookie tight end to be a fantasy starter, but history means nothing when recent performances create new landscapes. Warren’s situation is more concerning. The Colts will likely struggle at quarterback with Anthony Richardson all sizzle and no steak and Daniel Jones setting back the Giants franchise for years. Most concerning is the depth already on the roster at the position. Will Mallory is from the draft class of 2023. Jelani Woods and Drew Ogletree are from the 2022 draft. Woods in particular is highly thought of. He just hasn’t been able to stay fit. All three guys are ready to start so If the rookie needs to sit, he sits. Veteran presence Mo-Alie Cox is a stable presence who will see significant snaps as well.

The talent and role both hint at instant fantasy relevance, but the quarterback situation could make his ADP unjustifiable.

Warren is a mix of Tucker Kraft and Michael Mayer, but he's getting billed as if he's George Kittle.

The difference is that Kittle wins against single coverage, and he delivers big plays with his speed. Kittle had 20 explosive plays last year. Kraft had 10, which is respectable, but not elite.

Warren's usage at Penn State influenced fans and media into thinking that he's a Brock Bowers/Kittle athlete. Pat Freiermuth and Mike Gesicki's usage at Penn State generated inaccurate ideas about them, too.

All three Penn State alums are good NFL tight ends, but Warren is at his best winning against zone coverage or one-on-one in the red zone where he can use his contested-catch skills. He'll get that chance, especially if Anthony Richardson continues to improve.

First round pick. Projects as full-time starter. Should see solid volume, but does not play in a favorable offensive fantasy environment.

Rookie tight ends typically take time to develop. We've been spoiled recently, but Warren will likely be the 3rd target in a questionable passing game.

Versatility could make him a priority in the passing game. With Daniel Jones at quarterback, the short game and RPO concepts will be a staple. That's where he can thrive early.

Colts rumored to have a Swiss Army Knife role in mind for the athletic rookie. He could be slow out of the gate while they figure out the quarterback situation, but whoever is under center will have a nice weapon at tight end.
