Scouting Report

Josh Cuevas worked his way from a zero-star recruit into one of Alabama's most important players. He redshirted and played one season at Cal Poly, an FCS school on the Central Coast of California. After an almost 700-yard, six-touchdown season, he entered the transfer portal and committed to Washington. That Washington team had at least eight players who would go on to play in the NFL, so Cuevas was an afterthought in his one season there. He transferred again, this time to Alabama, to follow his head coach, Kalen DeBoer. His best season came as a redshirt senior before finally declaring for the NFL draft.

Cuevas has experience in two different NFL-style offenses that asked him to play both in-line and split out. He is a willing and capable blocker, but is more likely to be asked to be part of double teams or on chip assignments than to really erase defenders one-on-one. Despite his tight hips and lack of top-end speed, Cuevas often found himself open by working with Ty Simpson in the scramble drill or sitting in the soft spot of zones. Cuevas is sure-handed and uses all of his frame to secure catches along the sidelines. His spatial awareness helps bring in the catch and stay in bounds along the sideline. He's a no-nonsense rusher once the ball is in his hands, offering a juke or a hurdle, but mostly just running straight with aggression.

Rundown

Cuevas had his breakout season in 2025 and has enough blocking ability to compete for a short-term starting role.
