As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will examine one team per weekday with our quick-hitting Team Sleepers feature. These players might not be deep sleepers, but we will be highlighting players our staff thinks will surprise this year and outperform their average draft position (ADP).

Reasons WR Calvin Ridley Could Be a Sleeper

  • Jason Wood: Ridley isn't without his flaws, but his ADP puts him as a middling WR3 when the reality is he'll see a massive target share from his rookie quarterback and is the only proven playmaker in the receiving corps.
  • Meng Song: Ridley ranked 17th in routes run last year while leading all wide receivers in unrealized air yards. Ward just needs to not be as awful as Levis was.
  • Jeff Haseley: Ridley can be a nice flex play or WR4 on a team that has deeper lineups. He will be a consistent force all year with some good games sprinkled in.
  • Mauricio Gutierrez: From Weeks 8 to 17, he was WR17. Now, with a much better QB, he's going to become the headliner of this offense.
  • Ben Cummins: He's Cam Ward's clear number one receiver and will benefit from passing game scripts and Ward's aggressive nature.
  • Colton Dodgson: There's no clear threat to his target share on the roster. Cam Ward will lean on Ridley as he navigates his rookie season.
  • Craig Lakins: If he can stay healthy, he should have all the targets he can manage. There simply isn't much target competition here.
