As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will examine one team per weekday with our quick-hitting Team Sleepers feature. These players might not be deep sleepers, but we will be highlighting players our staff thinks will surprise this year and outperform their average draft position (ADP).

Sleepers on the Los Angeles Chargers

Reasons TE Tyler Conklin Could Be a Sleeper

  • Mike Kashuba: While the rest of the world gets excited about super sleeper Oronde Gadsden II and the wide receivers, the veteran Conklin finds himself as the expected starting tight end with the best situation of his career.
  • Meng Song: Chargers tight ends combined for a top-10 target share in 2024. There's a chance Conklin could become a staple in the short passing game for Herbert.
  • Matt Waldman: Tre Harris will be up and down because he must learn how to separate like a pro and quit clap-attacking. With heavy run looks likely, Conklin will get red-zone shots and win contested targets. If not, his value was disposable anyhow.
  • Julia Papworth: Conklin had a nice end to last year and is now in a much better situation. He is someone you can pick up on waivers and enjoy a solid five targets a game and some red zone shots.
