As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will examine one team per weekday with our quick-hitting Team Sleepers feature. These players might not be deep sleepers, but we will be highlighting players our staff thinks will surprise this year and outperform their average draft position (ADP).

This is a weekday series that will stretch through August 1. If you like this and want another, come back the next workday. Another will be here.

Please note that our staff has identified the players listed below. The official Footballguys stance for every Falcon can be found on our projections page.

Sleepers on the Atlanta Falcons

Reasons WR Darnell Mooney Could Be a Sleeper

  • Jason Wood: Mooney fell just shy of 1,000 yards last year despite uneven quarterbacking, yet his current ADP puts him in WR5 territory. If Penix elevates his play to match his franchise expectations, Mooney should deliver WR3 value most weeks.
  • Maurile Tremblay: Dirt-cheap, and a full-time deep role opposite London gives him weekly splash potential.
  • Julia Papworth: If Penix is truly legit and the answer in Atlanta, expect Mooney to be a solid WR2, delivering much higher than his current ADP. And if something happened to Drake London, Mooney could be a top-15 asset.
  • Phil Alexander: One of the best values in drafts right now. Penix Jr. has arm strength, and Mooney brings deep speed. Sometimes fantasy football isn't complicated.
  • Craig Lakins: Mooney is a great fit for what Michael Penix Jr.. excels at, and always seems to go overlooked.
  • Hutchinson Brown: He came up eight yards short of 1,000 last year, has a potential upgrade at quarterback, and is being selected as a WR5 in most drafts.
  • Mauricio Gutierrez: This season could be even better than 2024. Last year, he finished as the WR13 in receiving yards, and in 11 of 16 games in which he averaged at least 6 targets, he averaged 15.1 fantasy points per game.
  • Ben Cummins: He's a fantastic athlete who runs a 4.38 40-yard dash and is being overlooked for the second consecutive season in Atlanta.
  • Jeff Haseley: Despite putting up good, consistent numbers, Mooney is habitually underrated.
