Updates from Week 4

Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks

In Saturday's preseason matchup, Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa saw action through the midpoint of the second quarter, delivering a steady performance. Tagovailoa completed 4 of 8 passes for 49 yards, capping his day with a touchdown pass on his third and final drive. Backup quarterback Zach Wilson took over, posting a solid 9-of-13 for 80 yards. Rookie Quinn Ewers, projected as the team's third-string quarterback, impressed in his limited snaps, completing 7 of 8 passes for 66 yards. The pecking order has been set. We are only concerned about Tagovailoa making it through the entire season.

Preseason Updates: Running Backs

Starting running back De'Von Achane is being slow-played back to the field this week as he continues to rehab a calf injury. Head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to reporters and clarified on Monday that it is indeed a calf injury. "Calves are the ones that you have to be super proactive, especially with explosive players -- we don't want to have a long, strenuous, nagging issue. So, we probably won't see De'Von this week." With Achane sidelined, rookie Ollie Gordon has seized the opportunity to shine at the Miami Dolphins' training camp. Gordon, who started in Saturday's preseason game, turned heads with eight carries for 43 yards, averaging an impressive 5.4 yards per carry. His performance has earned him additional reps with the first-team offense, intensifying the competition with second-string running back Jaylen Wright. The battle for the backup role is heating up as camp nears its close, though Wright's status remains uncertain after leaving Thursday's practice with a leg injury. Offensive coordinator Frank Smith emphasized the importance of this week's practices, stating, "I think this week will be critical for all the blocking guys in the running game, along with the backs, to really show what we've learned over these 10 days." The Dolphins' ground game was a bright spot in Saturday's contest, with all running backs averaging at least three yards per carry. Behind Gordon, Mike Boone contributed seven carries for 27 yards, while Aaron Shampkin managed 14 yards on four attempts. The team's rushing attack continues to show promise, but the spotlight remains on Gordon and Wright as they vie for a larger role.
