Mason Taylor, New York Jets, Round 2, Pick 42

The Jets surround Justin Fields with talent, addressing the needs at the offensive line in round one and selecting LSU tight end Mason Taylor with the 42nd overall pick in the second round.

Fantasy Football Impact

Taylor steps into a prime situation in New York with the opportunity to make an immediate impact. Outside of Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard, there is no other receiving threat on the team with a 300-yard season under their belt. Taylor could immediately become the number two target in this offense and have extreme fantasy relevance.

The opportunity will be there, even in a Justin Fields-led offense; being the number two target could have solid value. Most of his targets will likely end up being in that 0-to-20-yard range, potentially keeping his upside a bit limited in fantasy. At just 20 years old, there's a lot of room for growth. But expect him to start the season behind Jeremy Ruckert, with whom Fields has a connection from their time at Ohio State.

The Fantasy Football Fallout

Garrett Wilson remains the team's primary target and is not impacted by this deal. However, this significant investment from New York dampens any remaining hopes for Malachi Corley or Jeremy Ruckert.

Breece Hall now has an extra blocker in the run game, which opens up lanes. This pick, along with the selection at the offensive line, indicates that the Jets are building to help Justin Fields succeed. Fields will surely be one of my favorite picks in fantasy football as we head into the 2025 redraft season.

Overview

Mason Taylor is a dependable, sure-handed receiver and blocker that the Jets will love to have. His skills will benefit Fields in the passing game, and Breece Hall will have more open lanes in the running game. He could step into a limited receiving room and quickly become the number two target, which we fantasy managers will like. However, for Malachi Corley and Jeremy Ruckert, this pick is costly for them and any hope for relevance.
