Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, and it's a few pages of me sharing all the random goofiness from this week. With maybe a music note and sometimes a "soap box" wrap at the end.

Here's to Football.

J

This is the kind of hard-hitting journalism you expect from Random Shots.

David Montgomery going for the carrot was gold.

Zoom in:

If I were Raiders RB Sincere McCormick, I'd write lots of letters just so I could close with:

Sincerely,

Sincere

This felt personal.

There's chemistry. And then there's Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson.

Rico Dowdle scored his first touchdown this week.

In Week 13.

I'm not sure how to feel about that.

A random "Pete Carroll was Wild" throwback.

Ok Then.

#Footballguy.

Well, they are the Fighting Irish.

We saw flag plants and fights after several rivalry games on Saturday.

Two thoughts.

  1. These darn kids today (heavy sarcasm) don't know how to wait on anything. All these flag-planting heroes thought they'd be just like Baker Mayfield.

Except Mayfield knew something the players Saturday did not: This works way better if you wait fifteen minutes and let the losing team all go to the locker room and get to do your flag planting unopposed by the home team.

2. If you do choose to try and plant the flag while the other team is on the field. Be my guest. But understand clearly that you are deep into F*** Around And Find Out territory there.

The timing for pressing the "button" of the player's helmet and the fireworks is sweet.

Mack Hollins is wild.

As you probably know, one of Hollins' quirky things is he only wears shoes if he has to. He likes staying grounded to the earth.

Some wondered if he'd be consistent in the snow. Ryan Fitzpatrick had the answer.

Conventional Wisdom: "NFL Players are prima donnas and need to be coddled."

Meanwhile, Mike Tomlin:

Are they mic'ing the goal posts for Justin Tucker now? That doink was brutal.

He hasn't been the same since this moment.

I know there are disputes on this, but I am not letting facts get in the way of a good story and going with this one as is.

Cooper DeJean weighs 198 pounds.

Antonio Brown with the perfect caption.

The Vikings are just having fun.

And of all the good things Minnesota did Sunday, my choosing the butt pat play is on brand.

Strength Of Schedule matters.

Music Note this week goes way back. Growing up in Texas in the late 70s and early 80s, ZZ Top felt like a secret. Especially in a time when music spread more slowly before the internet. Before the MTV video shtick and before they became big rock stars, we had ZZ Top's First Album and Rio Grande Mud, but Tres Hombres was my jam, and Jesus Just Left Chicago was my favorite track.

Have Mercy.

Bill, this was uncalled for.

I get plenty wrong myself, so I'm always careful with these.

But it looks like we're safe, at least for this year. As it turns out, teams were, in fact, able to handle the sunlight okay.

From October this year:

Azeez Al-Shaair apologists: "A suspension is not fair! This was an isolated incident!"

Narrator Voice: "It was not an isolated incident".

Dion Dawkins was ready.

"Geno Smith is 5-1 in his career against teams he previously played for.

That’s the best such record by any quarterback since the 1970 merger (minimum five starts)"

Thanks to Dante Koplowitz-Fleming and Sigmund Bloom for that one.

I love Aaron Rodgers. Pat McAfee roasting him for the block here was classic.

Sure, he's different. People are already laughing about the documentary. Whatever. Dude loves the game.

It was a rough weekend for college football.

That's my Quarterback.

But...

I'm one of those people who doesn't sweat bye weeks when drafting too much. I figure I'll deal with it when it's here.

It's here.

Art But Make It Sports does not miss.

I'm not saying he's wrong...

Footballguys Stat Historian Adam Harstad on Josh Allen's TD Pass, Rush, and Reception day.

All these years later, Eli Manning is still living rent-free in Tom Brady's head...

Thanks to Phil Alexander for that one.

Wrapping with Relationship Goals.

Anyone who knows me knows I outkicked my coverage in the marriage department.

Sweet Barbie and I celebrated 36 years this past week, and when I think about how we got here, aside from the grace of God (which is most of it), I think a lot has to do with keeping things fun.

This clip is a dumb, random, but perfect example.

Everyone says marriage takes "work".

I'm not sure work is exactly the right word, though. I'd say it's more "intention" and probably "attention".

Intention in that I think you have to actually and intentionally think about how you're going to make the relationship better and fun. For most people, that takes some thought. And actually following up with action.

And for attention, I think a relationship is like almost anything in that it needs attention to thrive. Much less survive.

I'm far from an expert here. But I do have a good bit of experience. And my advice is to keep it fresh and keep it fun. At least that's worked for me. Rock on.

Thank you for being part of this goofy journey with us.

And thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Jake Bryant, Sigmund Bloom, Phil Alexander and Clayton Gray for the help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
